If you are very energetic what’s your secret?

Dontbelazy · Today 10:04

I’m currently off work as I work term time and I’m so annoyed with myself because I’m being lazy.I met up with friends last night they are term time too and several were reeling off all the things they’d been doing, gardening, decorating, exercising. I’d literally been doom scrolling, watching crime documentaries and had a nap.

My kids are teens now so more or less sort themselves out but they can be so messy and constantly in the fridge and making snacks and it’s really draining trying to do things round the house with them under my feet.

But there’s so much I could be doing, I wish I was one of those energetic, on the go types but I can waste hours just lolling about.

If you’re energetic what’s your secret or if you’re a lazy type like me have you found a way to motivate yourself?

Good iron levels.

Meadowfinch · Today 18:51

The more you do, the easier it gets. Start with 10mins or a specific task per day, and gradually work up.

The satisfaction of e.g.scrubbing out a kitchen cupboard while you cook supper is brilliant. Use all those little scraps of time. Whole kitchen done by the end of the month without wasting a Saturday morning. Good value!

Marroon · Today 18:52

I don’t even know if i’m particularly energetic, it’s just a case of things having to be done. I have 2 preschoolers with me 24hrs a day so there’s everything that goes with that, then normal day to day house stuff, then I always like to have one house project on the go - redecorating a bedroom, renovating the greenhouse, painting the kitchen, doing the garden.
The only time to sit down and watch tv is after 8pm so naturally the time spent doing that is limited.

momager22 · Today 18:54

Exercising gives me energy. I have to drag myself to go to a class but I feel totally pumped for a few hours afterwards. However if I sit still for too long I can crash/ fall asleep. So I have to make the most of the endorphins by being productive.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · Today 18:55

Bodies in motion stay in motion. If I get up and get going im good. If I start doom scrolling first thing then my day becomes a waste of time.

MumOf4totstoteens · Today 19:06

I have literally zero energy. Take every vitamin under the sun. Have bloods done every few months. Checked for thyroid, peri menopause all sorts of things and nothing wrong 🤷‍♀️ I do have depression and I get mentally overwhelmed which makes me physically ill. The thought of excersize makes me feel sick! I just about manage to keep my house in a reasonable tidy state, work 2 days and look after my kids. Anything beyond that is just out of the question for me. It’s an awful way to live. I have friends running marathons and all sorts and I’m just like wtf 😳

My energy levels are down compared to when I was young and as have some chronic health issues. I had abnormal levels of energy till around 56 when health issues began.

I just never gave a shit what anyone thought and made decisions for me.
When I’m not having any illness I still have more than most but pain drains you.

Crime documentaries 😂 Why?
Not comedies or sport, or wildlife, crime, 😲😲🤢🤢

Don't pretend like you're shocked people watch them, they're incredibly popular.

SunnyRedSnail · Today 19:26

@Dontbelazy you make your own energy.

Make a list of what you want to do. On PAPER. Get up early and get going. The more you tick off the better you feel.

I'm term time only. I do have lazy days but I find the more I do in the mornings the better I feel.

Exercise for me mainly. I used to be very sedentary and didn’t do much or have much energy, but the more I exercise, the more I want to be active and move my body, so now I feel a bit antsy if I go a long stretch without doing something a bit more energetic.

BertieBotts · Today 19:29

I am lazy, or at least sedentary.

I find doom scrolling makes it worse TBH. The more I get myself to stand up and leave the screen alone, the more energy I have. The longer I sit and look at my phone or computer, the harder it is to get up and do things.

The trouble is I don't seem to understand how to have a reasonable break and then get back to doing things. So I either stay standing up doing things until I'm so exhausted all I can possibly manage is scrolling, or I get sucked into the vortex early and then nothing gets done at all.

Tulipsriver · Today 19:39

If I want a productive day I have to do something active as soon as I wake up. Sometimes it's the gym, sometimes walking the dog. If I have a slow morning I really struggle to get myself motivated to do anything.

Lazy days are good too though. We all need to recharge our batteries so don't beat yourself up over them! Enjoy your holidays.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · Today 19:57

Just naturally.

I hate doing nothing. I don't watch tv and I hate board games because you get no output from them. I realise that makes me sound like a psycho 😆 if I am sitting down at home, it will be on a foam roller or in a gentle yoga pose.

A "lazy day at home" is rare and would normally involve getting up at 6am, going for a run, making breakfast from scratch, getting out with the kids for a woodland walk or museum, cleaning the kitchen, and baking something.

I am just restless tbh.

Stuff I do:
Get up early, like 0530-0615, almost every day. 8am on a Sunday is a massive lie-in.

Exercise in the mornings almost every day.

Drink black coffee first thing. Real coffee, not instant crap.

Eat vegetables and protein for breakfast. Think it gives more stable energy.

Get outside early in sunlight if possible.

Make lists of what I want to do, like texting myself or using family whiteboard.

I have been feeling less full on recently and turns out, I do have low ferritin. Didn't really affect my workrate though!

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · Today 20:08

Step 1, stop calling yourself lazy as you'll start to identify as that! Step 2) work our your natural rhythm, when do you have most energy - I can do nothing in the afternoon, it just doesn't work for me at all so I have a collection of things I enjoy that involve sitting!! Step 3) only do energetic things you actually WANT to do. My garden is shit because I don't like gardening and i don't care enough. However, there are things i enjoy (decorating, planning holidays, activities with the kids, theatre and museums) so write a list of a few things you actually want to get up and do - and hopefully that will start to get a bit of dopamine flowing when you think about doing them. If you can't think of anything, then why does it matter that you're not up doing this stuff, if you don't enjoy it then it's a waste of your energy!
I think making sure you get out of the house for a walk or a coffee and some fresh air always sorts me out if I'm in a funk. Check your health as well, when I was low on iron and vitd I was constantly moaning at myself for being slow but I was actually just not 100%.
My top tip is a weird one - put your shoes on. Something about it just makes me keep working/doing inside the house, it seems to stop me sitting and doom scrolling (right now, I'm bare foot and lounging around on the Internet!)

Screamingabdabz · Today 20:44

Wish I was an energetic type too op. I’ve had term summer holidays for the last 20 years and achieved nothing in any of them.

I’m a list person and can whizz around during the working week but as soon as I break up for hols I just sit, sit, sit. On my phone, drinking coffee and watching crap on tv. Can’t get enough of it. The more pointless and unproductive the activity, the more I’ll do it.

What I could’ve achieved! Wish there was a magic pill I could take to get some of that mojo that other posters have.

suki1964 · Today 20:44

I have to put the phone away and switch on the radio. If I start in front of a screen, there I stay

I get home from work at 10am, go walk the dog, get in at around 11am, and then I set my alarm again, for an hour, sit with a cuppa and Brunch and when the alarm goes off - I have to shift bum - else before I know it, its 4pm and DH is home . I tend to give myself 2 hours for the chores , prep dinner, then its another walk with the dog - then its down time

If there is something I really want to watch on tv that dh won't want to watch - I get the ironing basket out on a Sunday morning and do both. Ironing needs doing anyways and I dont feel so guilty when DH is out mowing the lawns or washing the cars > If I didnt have the tv on I could get the ironing done in 30 mins - but its my bluff

BigSkies2022 · Today 20:53

Lists. I’m an achiever, so I like to tick specific tasks off. If they are big tasks, I break them down into smaller ones and list ‘em! If I’m doing more mental than physical work, I list out the tasks, set a timer and work through them. I take a break every 30 minutes to get up, walk around, stare at the horizon, and then go back to my list and the next chunk of work. I’ve hauled my lazy arse through 2 lots of exams like this and I plan to return to it in the autumn. Claude(AI) and Gemini can help make plans.

having said all that, I’m really in slug mode right now- combination of heat, extra pressures on me with family stuff and just being nicer to myself. Maybe you need a bit of downtime?

MaryMayMiss · Today 16:45

I would have your ferritin levels checked. Despite what the NHS say anything under 30 (even 50) is deficient and can cause lack of energy. Also have thyroid levels checked.

Is that right because I went to GP recently with just real exhaustion and he did some bloods and my ferritin level was 34 and GP said it was normal.

Routine. If i lose mine i totally lose my mojo. Make a plan for each day of what you want to accomplish. Whether it’s fitness goals or a book to read or clear out the shed.

This is me too
