If you are very energetic what’s your secret?

Dontbelazy · Today 10:04

I’m currently off work as I work term time and I’m so annoyed with myself because I’m being lazy.I met up with friends last night they are term time too and several were reeling off all the things they’d been doing, gardening, decorating, exercising. I’d literally been doom scrolling, watching crime documentaries and had a nap.

My kids are teens now so more or less sort themselves out but they can be so messy and constantly in the fridge and making snacks and it’s really draining trying to do things round the house with them under my feet.

But there’s so much I could be doing, I wish I was one of those energetic, on the go types but I can waste hours just lolling about.

If you’re energetic what’s your secret or if you’re a lazy type like me have you found a way to motivate yourself?

I really think it is a case of, 'just do it it.' I wouldn't put myself in that category but I know that on days when I get started, or because I need to get stuff done, then I'm unstoppable! Starting is definitely the hardest part, but once you have just keep telling yourself, 'I'll just do this one next thing and then I'll sit down...' it's amazing what you can achieve.

Shayisgreat · Today 16:45

Momentum. When I get going I can't stop. When I stay still I can't start.

MaryMayMiss · Today 16:45

I would have your ferritin levels checked. Despite what the NHS say anything under 30 (even 50) is deficient and can cause lack of energy. Also have thyroid levels checked.

foodiefil · Today 16:50

You’re not lazy you’re lacking momentum and I always find that on days where I’ve done the gym in the morning (not always possible for me or everyone for that matter) but the rest of the day is so much more productive. To get energy you have to expend energy. Honestly this isn’t me every day but when it is I get loads done. It’s like you start and you keep going.
but also sometimes your body needs to rest and what you’ve done is rest so don’t be hard on yourself

ClarityofVision · Today 16:54

I am average - in between your two types.

I find that making a list helps for me.
Things go much better if I can force myself to get up and started very early in the morning before anyone can get under my feet (and before it gets hot!).
Telling other people the task that I am going to complete, as a way of stopping myself from quietly not doing it, helps my motivation to get up early and get the task done.

having a watch here, as this sounds like me…..

Fake it til you make it. I used to be lazy and possibly on the verge of depression. I was perpetually exhausted. I just made myself start doing stuff one day and I haven’t looked back. I’ve probably gone too far the other way now but I just feel so full of life. I do loads and loads of walking, wild swimming, yoga, water sports. I just feel great. You won’t regret making the change.

Reallyneedsaholiday · Today 17:12

I get up and go to work. Sometimes more enthusiastically than others. But if I'm not working, I'm not moving.

BountifulPantry · Today 17:13

I don’t think I’m « energetic » so much as just fucking neurotic weirdo who physically cannot do nothing.

NotOnYourEllie · Today 17:14

Do you drink alcohol fairly frequently? I didn't think I drank very much and I generally do not, but I recently took a break from alcohol and have noticed a huge difference in my energy levels! It took about a week of being alcohol free and I started to feel a lot more energetic.

likeitshard · Today 17:15

I don’t have loads of energy but I get up and go to the gym. It’s easier if I just do it rather than think about it.

Can you say more about how you turned the corner that day? What enabled such a massive change?

At work this morning several people told me I have so much energy. But I finished work at 1pm and have done nothing since but lay on my bed watching you tube crime documentaries and posting on MN.

Minasama · Today 17:16

I used to always be doing something, now I thoroughly enjoy doing nothing. I have great mental health which I think is an absolute boon and not to be messed with so I’m not forcing myself to do anything. It’s too hot anyway.

PensionPTake · Today 17:21

I think getting up and cracking on rather than getting sidetracked by your phone etc straight away helps. Make a list of a job a day/every other day so it gets stuff done but isn't too overwhelming. But also it's fine to have a lazy day now and then.

Wexone · Today 17:24

I used to be an always on the go person trying my best to get everything done as in back of my head my mother is telling me sitting down was lazy. then I got diagnosed with a chronic pain condition. I now have to pace myself every day. listen to your body if you are feeling exhausted rest is allowed. every day doesn't have to filled with go go go. naps are allowed. you have a busy job. to get some things done make list but not nog ones allow proper time to get things done but if they don't then tomrorow is another day. you have teens aswell they should be helping out aswell
enjoy your time off and don't be hard in yourself of you haven't crammed everything loads to do.

fruitable · Today 17:29

I think that natural energy is either in you, or it isn’t. If you’re less inclined to be bouncing from one task to the next, that’s absolutely fine! I wish I could relax a little more to be honest, from the moment I wake up I do not stop.
All day long. Drives my DH mad, but I just can’t help it. I like things tidy, organised and structured all through the day and then I can relax (normally around 10pm!!).

theneighbourstolemyteacup · Today 17:35

Literally just doing it. Not waiting for motivation or being in the mood, got a list of things to do, and just doing them.

Might help to start with actually doing things, so when you've finished your list, then you can be lazy if you feel like it. Chances are, you won't, but at least you will have achieve all you wanted that day anyway.

MyKindHiker · Today 17:37

Routine. If i lose mine i totally lose my mojo. Make a plan for each day of what you want to accomplish. Whether it’s fitness goals or a book to read or clear out the shed.

I didn’t really think about how I was going to do it as that’s what always stopped me before. I just went for a walk whether or not I had the energy for it. Eventually it just became second nature and I actually did have the energy for it without having to force myself. I think it’s will power in the first place though until you get to that point

LiveTheDream8998 · Today 18:09

Don't feel bad for having a rest. Your body obviously needs it.
Is there any way you can give your body more energy, through food or drink?
Slowly build up your motivation. Make sure you do at least one goal a day for a couple of days and maybe build this up to 2 or 3... so it could just be simply sorting a cupboard out... or going for a walk or a swim or
.. whatever you want to achieve.

Maybe make a list if everything you want to achieve each week and see how you're getting on with it on a Wednesday?

Whilst I'm off, I'm trying to stick to routine for my children- so up and dressed and out the house for 8am (our usual time) and then snacks- I'm trying to stick to school day times with those too.

Maybe it's the routine you need? Don't feel guilty for having a few slower paced days though. Enjoy your time off!

Leopardspota · Today 18:33

I find that I want to reward myself with relaxing first thing on my day off. But instead I get straight on, then im proud that I’ve got stuff done; so I tend not to stop and relax til 3 o clock or so. Momentum is the thing!

Crime documentaries 😂 Why?
Not comedies or sport, or wildlife, crime, 😲😲🤢🤢

Myoldbear · Today 18:45

The world needs both thinkers and doers.

Both are equally important, but a lot of people don't really feel that for some reason.

It is nice to have energy, and people here have great advice to help, but following the slow path is good in a different way, so never mind if you don't whizz around.
