Fuming about directions woman

HowardsWahey · Yesterday 15:34

I live in a seaside town that, at this time of year in particular, is very popular with tourists. Therefore it's quite common to be stopped and asked for directions or local information. I never mind, but I think a bit of gratitude doesn't go amiss.

Some woman and her husband stopped me today and asked if there was anywhere nearby they could get some fish and chips. I started saying, "Yes, if you walk to the bottom of the road just behind us, you'll see a big retail park with Sainsbury's and Lidl..."

Then, when I'm mid-sentence, she cuts me off and says, "Oh that's lovely - but we just fancied some fish and chips", saying "fish and chips" as if I was a bit simple and needed them explained to me. I gave her a bit of a look and said, "And if you'd let me finish, I'd have told you which turning to take at the retail park for the fish and chip shop".

I thought she'd have the sense to realise she shouldn't have interrupted, but she made a sort of huffing noise and said, "Well THAT'S a bit rude! I was only asking." So I said, "And I was only answering - but you interrupted me. THAT'S rude. Enjoy your chips". And I walked off.

What the hell is wrong with some people?! Someone takes time out of their day to help them out, and they won't take two seconds to listen! I hope she and her droopy-faced husband are still wandering about desperate to find their cod and chips 😄

I hope a seagull steals her fish. Then shits on her 😂

You met her energy with the same, that’s the problem. How relevant was the big retail park with Sainsbury’s and Lidl to where the chip shop was anyway?

Are you the woman?

Well FFS, I would imagine that the Sainsbury and lidl were large hard to miss land marks from which to follow further directions shortening the over all directions.
Or would you prefer 3rd right, next left. 3 exit round about, turn left, turn right , 4th right again, bear south.........

Yeah, I can see why she thought you were rude.🙄

So you wouldn't have listened to the directions YOU asked for either?

I like the way you think 😄

She's clearly one of those MNers who read the first 4 words of an OP and make up the rest, even going so far as to argue with other posters that whatever they've imagined is the case (and not what the OP actually wrote)!

I don't see how I was rude. I was the one taking time out of my day to help and I was the one she interrupted!

Agree with you OP
SHE was rude and you politely reined her behaviour in

He had the nerve to stand there with his face all droopy?

🤣🤣. This reminded me of a thread years go that the husband ‘did a t-Rex’

PancakeCloud · Yesterday 16:17

Fuming? Calm down.

Forget it. World is full of cunts

😂So succinct

Peachykeenjosephine · Yesterday 16:19

Good for you OP! I think you were a little grumpy but I don't blame you 🤣 love the droopy faced husband 🤣 poor bloke!

RedRock41 · Yesterday 16:20

You should have sweetly sent her in the opposite direction to the best chippie!

You were both rude - can’t see the big deal.Sounds like a fairly ordinary interaction.

What had her husband’s face got to do with it?

what was rude? The OP kindly took time and make the effort of trying to help.

I think the OP handled it very well, to laugh at the woman's rudeness in that way.

chirrupybird · Yesterday 16:22

I would have laughed and said I'm not suggesting you get fish and chips in Lidl it's just on the route to the fish and chip shop. I suppose they expected the fish and chip shop to be on the front, not near the shopping centre.

Fuming? Calm down.

I know. OPs are frequently "livid" on here too, when I'd be a bit miffed, at most.

Yeah, I can see why she thought you were rude.🙄

well, the retail park IS relevant?

Why are people sassy about the OP giving clear directions?

palorina · Yesterday 16:23

Good for you OP. I'm sick of people with the attention span of a newt, impatience, and lack of listening skills.

You found a right Mrs. Bucket there (although the original was not rude, just mad), and even a Richard to boot!

Get on with your day, and let them at it.

BeardySchnauzer · Yesterday 16:26

I get asked for directions all the time in London and find 3 steps are the max people can engage with before their eyes glaze over - so I try and send them in the right general direction and assume they will ask someone else

No good deed goes unpunished

DeftGoldHedgehog · Yesterday 16:27

Isn't there a chippy on the front rather than at Sainsbury's?

Dhejeje · Yesterday 16:27

If i were in a cute seaside town i wouldn't want to be going to a chipper near a retail park tbh

Flamingojune · Yesterday 16:29

'If you'd let me finish' is pretty rude

daisychain01 · Yesterday 16:29

Hopefully everyone lined up along the road to give you a big round of applause.

Blimey, so I've not only got to direct them to the chip shop now, but I've also got to pick one I think they'll find aesthetically pleasing?

I'm not the tourist information centre!
