Fuming about directions woman

I live in a seaside town that, at this time of year in particular, is very popular with tourists. Therefore it's quite common to be stopped and asked for directions or local information. I never mind, but I think a bit of gratitude doesn't go amiss.

Some woman and her husband stopped me today and asked if there was anywhere nearby they could get some fish and chips. I started saying, "Yes, if you walk to the bottom of the road just behind us, you'll see a big retail park with Sainsbury's and Lidl..."

Then, when I'm mid-sentence, she cuts me off and says, "Oh that's lovely - but we just fancied some fish and chips", saying "fish and chips" as if I was a bit simple and needed them explained to me. I gave her a bit of a look and said, "And if you'd let me finish, I'd have told you which turning to take at the retail park for the fish and chip shop".

I thought she'd have the sense to realise she shouldn't have interrupted, but she made a sort of huffing noise and said, "Well THAT'S a bit rude! I was only asking." So I said, "And I was only answering - but you interrupted me. THAT'S rude. Enjoy your chips". And I walked off.

What the hell is wrong with some people?! Someone takes time out of their day to help them out, and they won't take two seconds to listen! I hope she and her droopy-faced husband are still wandering about desperate to find their cod and chips 😄

The % means nothing, because most people clearly didn't read the OP's first post properly with the vile comment about the woman's husband.

No WAY would 81% agree if they had seen that comment, or read the rest of the OP's posts.

YANBU at all, in my book. I think I'd have responded similarly.
I absolutely hate giving directions. I have to mentally run through it in my head first so then I'm standing saying nothing for too long, then I have to give a succinct explanation that others will understand when in fact in my head it's 'turn left just before the place that the really big tree was before the council cut it down, then along a bit, there's the shop I had a Saturday job in, then at the roundabout take the left but not the first little left, then just past the field, check if cows are there today to point out to the children'.
I would definitely have mentioned a large retail park as the first milestone!

This is a complete assumption on your part. You have just decided this as it supports your point. There's absolutely no evidence of this.

I'm done. Can't keep repeating myself. I am sticking by what I said. Her behaviour was unreasonable, the comment she made about the woman's husband was plain horrible, and she has posted some very rude and unpleasant posts on this thread.

AND I believe that the poll result is skewed. If people read all of the OP's posts and had noticed the rude comment about the woman's husband in the first post, no way would around 80% of people have clicked on YANBU.
