OK. What are your eco sins?
I’ll start

I use way too much cling film and kitchen roll. In my defence, your honour, I rarely fly and I drive a hybrid 😀
Oh and I grow my own veggies

I water my garden

I heat my house to a comfortable 21 degrees no matter what the calendar says. If I need to put the heating on in June to be comfortable then so be it.

I also quite often forget to turn my lights off, especially in winter.

I often forget to bring shopping bags with me so have a drawer full of plastic carrier bags (because the paper ones are crap)

I use paper cups in work instead of bringing my own cup from home

In my defence, I almost never fly, I don't eat meat and I don't drive

I definitely use too much kitchen roll,and I don't recycle much in the way of cans and plastic,but that is mainly because there are no recycling facilities where I live! The paper/cardboard/glass banks near me were removed several years ago, and the council stopped providing us with recycling bags for reasons I'm unsure of. The nearest recycling facilities for me are a bus ride away and as a disabled person,I'm not able to lug heavy bags of cans and glass on the bus. But in my defence,I don't fly (not since 1982!),don't have a car - I use public transport to get nearly everywhere, and I only have one child. I also re-use carrier bags umpteen times and I always try to take my own bags to the shops. And the newspaper I buy 3 or 4 days a week gets recycled by lining the cat's litter tray.

I never recycle.

I fly loads, mainly on frivolous trips

On the flip side I never throw any food away. There’s always something to be made with everything. Not sure that counteracts everything else though but I don’t lose sleep at night about it.

I reckon if I chucked all our Lego in the sea someone would assume a Lego container had fallen off a ship!

I wear trainers without socks, which many people tell me is sinful for many reasons, but I disagree: fewer socks to be washed.

I use coffee pods in my Nespresso vertuo machine with total abandon.

Like my towels fluffy so finish them off in the drier after I’ve partially line dried them in the summer
Keep forgetting to bring a water bottle to work so end up buying a bottle of water
Waste too much food and it drives me mental

I wear my (cheap) clothes until they literally fall apart
I buy loads of stuff secondhand
I don't drive and walk most places
I recycle as much as I can and give stuff away rather than bin it/send it to the tip
I line dry as much as possible apart from towels! including in winter (where washing is dried indoors on a massive wrack)

Im really a saint when all said and done. Although a lot of the above is to keep living costs down or because I can’t afford an alternative.

I use my tumble dryer every day, heatwave or no heatwave. I value my time more than the cost (which is pennies) or the environment.

Fly long haul once a year. Probably increasing more flights now dcs are older.
Often put recyclable rubbish in bin.
Don't use a food waste bin.
Use single use plastic sandwich bags a few times a week.
Have 3 dcs.
Buy lots of stuff.

I keep the fan on all night. In my defense, your honour, I'm 8 months pregnant.

Its really bad, so please dont be angry. Once the plastic/metal recycling bins are full, I shove and hide it all in the green garden waste under the grass cuttings.
I'm not even sorry.

Mine is that I’ve got too apathetic. Until there’s a change in policy to hold the worst offending corporations to account I don’t believe anymore that anything I do matters at all. I hate that I’ve got like this because I used to be a walk everywhere, take my own containers to the butchers, take my own reusable bags to the weighouse and greengrocers type of person and then bit by bit I just felt like I was just making work for myself for no discernible benefit.

1. Flying abroad on holiday once a year.
2. Watering the lawn.
3. Consuming too much. Live in a big house & own quite a lot of stuff

Better things

1. Have solar psnels and battery
2. Get train/bike to work & drive very little
3. Use washable/resuable eg nappies, wax food wraps

I don't recycle tin foil or soft plastics(the effort is negated by the need to clean them under the tap).
I use as much water as I want in the house. (However I don't water the lawn. Watering doesn't encourage the grass to develop deep roots. I rarely wash the car either).

Haha that is diabolical! I get rid of bits of furniture/electrical goods/whatever in the main bin that way.

I use my tumble dryer.
I leave lights on in empty rooms.
I do recycle a lot of stuff, and make liberal use of the food waste bin outside.
In this weather, I freeze the bags and chuck them away the night before bin day.
I can’t contemplate the maggots. 😩

I don’t wash the containers, though. I might give them a cursory rinse under the tap, but that’s about it.
My mil (god love her) washes her recycling like a new born baby.
She’s so thorough and gentle!
I’m a lot more slap dash than she is.

You're contaminating the garden waste with plastic and metal, which can spoil the entire load—not just your bin, but potentially the whole truck—and make it much harder, or even impossible, to compost properly.

Please at least put them in the general waste bin instead of hiding them in the garden waste 🙏

Leave the tap running when I’m brushing my teeth.
I am sure my pleather skirt/jacket are terrible environmentally.

Don’t buy stuff with palm oil in it wherever possible
Very little food waste (our food caddy is barely even a third full on collection)
Haven’t flown anywhere since 2024 and no plans to this year or next
Electric car that I literally never wash because I’m lazy except lights and windscreens if needed
Recycle everything possible (our council gives a full size recycling bin and we wash the containers as part of the dinner washing up, so no specific extra rinsing)

I love cut flowers. And out of season fruits and veg. Otherwise I’m pretty good - don’t
own a car, hardly ever fly, re-use as much as I can, don’t buy anything from Amazon, Temu etc
