There’s a deadly virus - would you sacrifice yours or your child’s life to create a vaccine?

I’ve been watching a really good series and this scenario came up.

Theres a deadly virus, catching the virus means certain death as well as the extreme likelihood that you’ll infect large numbers of people before you die.

You find out that your child’s is immune and is the key to creating a vaccine, but in order to do so your child would die during the operation.

Humanity and civilisation as we once knew it is finished due to the amount of people who have died and the humans that are left are merely surviving and trying to avoid becoming infected. But some people have created small communities and are living the best lives they can.

Would you be willing to sacrifice your child’s life in order to create a vaccine? Or what about your own life?

So you would be happy for other people’s children to die then?

Would you expect another parent to sacrifice their child to save yours?

Yes to the first question, and no to the second.

This is not how vaccines work though. Nobody has to die to develop a vaccine.

It’s a hypothetical scenario based on a game/TV series

I'm not brave. I'd be living in a cupboard somewhere ignoring the world, or dead in the first wave.

So, a moot point for lots of us.

My own life, yes definitely without question.

The life of my little one and two year olds? Sorry human race but no fucking way 😅

If it's the Last of Us. It's not a virus it's a fungus.

Fungus is actually one of the easier infections to avoid.

Would I be open to myself and my child assisting in the cure research, yes. She's still in the womb and is lined up for a gene study and donating her cord blood. Would I let them cut her up like sashimi, hell no. For starters research doesn't work like that and secondly, selfishly I care more about my child then I do about humanity. Perhaps if they'd shown themselves to be a little bit more worth saving....
