As I understand it , open to correction etc after a brief refusal the previous PM allowed use of RAF Fairford to continue (and not just for refuelling) as long as operations from there were for, I think the phrase was, "defensive purposes"

Quite how that was defined and how or even if it was policed by HMG is anybody guess and I suspect the relevant files will be sealed for decades.

I hate him because I'm a Mancunian and Machester has got worse and worse year after year with him in charge. I don't even go into town anymore to shop or see a film etc. I only go there if I have an appointment or something and never on my own. Yes, it's that bad.

Piccadilly Gardens is just terrifying. It makes me so sad to see what our wonderful city has become.

As a teenager I spent countless hours shopping there, eating on the green, making friends with other groups of emos, visiting Afflecks etc... and now my own teenagers aren't allowed to go there.

Ascension islands are British, not American .

We do let the u.s use our bases and vice versa, its what having allies is for.

The issue of Burnham's level of success re: homelessness is quite complex. Having access to national levers is going to be very different to being constrained to a local level only. Give him a chance.

He had no trouble speaking out about lockdown policies in October 2020 Anyone in the public eye can use their platform to speak out about anything they want ..............and they quite often do so that is a poor argument @onestarawake

Rather than a coordinated campaign it could just be that there many many people don't like the vagueness of what Burham seems to stand for. He says he is to the left but has appointed a pretty centerist cabinet for example.

It is far more important to dissect the views/actions of the person actually in power than the parties which are largely irrelevant for the next three years. `

I was in Manchester last Friday .. it was fantastic.

It’s a busy, vibrant city with loads of great shops, restaurants, lots of workers in the City Centre.

I remember walking through the City in the late 80s and early 90s, it was appalling - so I have no idea what timeframe you are looking at when you say it’s got “worse and worse” … the rose tinted spectacles of youth.

Afflecks is great, but getting through the Northern Quarter was hardly a treat before it gentrified.

Piccadilly Gardens has always been bad, it just used to be bad with flowerbeds.

Rough sleeping has come down 50% in the last 10 years.

As mayor of Greater Manchester Burnham was resisting the lockdown the government wanted to impose specifically on GM(moving to tier three) without extra financial support. Yes he also spoke out generally about the unfair nature of the tier system but he had skin in the game. He has only had skin in the game regarding the early release scheme since Monday. So I don't agree my argument is poor

I agree with what he did over the lockdowns. The North particularly Leicester were treated appallingly but if he HAD spoke out about this early release scheme earlier there is no way the media would have just ignored his views about it until he became PM 🤔

I was disappointed he hadn’t costed the 20% off thing. I mean, we’re stony broke, and the first thing he does is going to increase debt again. 🤷‍♀️ I was hoping for something a bit more radical about social care.

Given he fucked up the funding of the first announcement - I'm pretty pleased is going to take a bit more time to get his story straight for social care!
