AIBU to worry about an ovarian cyst in early pregnancy?

ovarian cyst found on previous scan due to miscarriage.
the midwife wasn’t concerned she didn’t say what cyst it was or the size, but i had a letter through to rescan 3 months later to see if it had gone but fast forward 2 cycles late i am pregnant again, im currently 7 weeks pregnant and last night i was getting a new sharp twinges but on and off. nothing too painful.

has anyone else experienced this before? i was hoping the cyst had gone but it doesn’t feel like it.

Ovaries have cysts called corpus literal cysts which support early pregnancies until the placenta properly forms, so I wonder if it’s that cyst from your last pregnancy as they can take a while to re- absorbed.
i suspect it’s nothing they’re worried about as they’d see you pretty quickly if it was something that looked worrying or out of place (I’m a scientist though not a medic, but have been through this, I had a large cyst which they removed immediately after my miscarriage
good luck with your pregnancy, you could ask your midwife for an early scan referral if you’re worried and so if she can arrange this?

Edited

i think they sent the notes to my GP so i can ring today and ask if they have noted what type of cyst it was.
i just never thought they would rescan because they never mentioned they wanted to when i was there? so i called the EPU to ask why, they said if they cyst is 5cm they like to rescan to see if it has gone. anyway I got the letter through for a rescan but the post was 2 weeks late so i missed my appointment but coincidentally the day after i found out i was pregnant again! (2 cycles after mc)
just last night in bed i had a few sharp twinges, a pain i am familiar with due to the cysts thats what makes me think it hasn’t disappeared?
yeah i see my midwife next week so will speak to her about it.
iv been so worried incase it was something sinister but i have no alarming symptoms and never have. maybe like you said they would’ve referred me fast if it was.

How funny, I recently had ultra sound scans on various organs and I asked if they could also check my ovaries as I’d had a cyst before (mine was around 25cm lol), and I also felt that funny feeling, not pain, but twinge … I have another cyst, it was 6.5cm, so was rescanned 3 months later and am awaiting another gynae follow up … essentially they like to offer removal if they’re over 5cm in my region (East Midlands), I’ve told them I’d rather wait till it bothers me but happy to keep having scans to see if it’s been shrinking (hopefully!) I’m menopausal so guessing things may change lol
goodnluxk and hope it’s just gone for you

yes that’s exactly like mine, just a sharp twinge every now and then?! so random
im in south yorkshire but im not sure what the protocols are for removal, maybe when i have my next scan they can see if it has grown and then see from there what my options are, im hoping it hasn’t grown and i can have it removed during C Section?!

did they tell you what type of cyst you have?

just thought i’d update you all. I went to my GP today and he said it was a demoid cyst they had found, it’s 3.6 in size but the second ultrasound they couldn’t find it but i declined a transvaginal due to me bleeding from the mc at the time.

My first cyst, the massive one was a mucinus cyst adenoma, essentially mucous cells in the wrong place so the cyst was full of blood and mucous 🤢🤮.
this new one is a simple cyst

I wouldn't worry about it OP. I had one last year at 10cm whilst I was going through IVF. No one was bothered, I fell pregnant, miscarried, and on the scan at Epu they noted i now had another 2 cysts. Altogether I've ended up with 12cm, 4cm and 3cm all on my right ovary. I continued ivf, again noone was concerned about the cysts, I'm now 27 weeks pregnant and all 3 cysts are still there same size. I had really really bad pain mostly at night between 8-12 weeks on that side. Thankfully I've not had it like that since, just the odd twinge. I was told to be more careful with certain things to try and prevent torsion or rupture, so I've taken it steady and so far so good 🙂

I had this when pregnant with my second. The baby ended up twisting it somehow and I ended up in agonising pain, vomitting every 30 mins for a couple of days before they did an emergency c section at 34 weeks to remove baby and cyst. Only just saved ovary. I think that was quite unusual though, junior doctors kept coming in to look Grin

I had a dermoid cyst on my left ovary which was discovered during early pregnancy with dd1 (18 years ago now), as like you OP, I was having twinges. I can't remember what size they said it was, but it was big enough to warrant a planned C-section!

During the delivery, they removed the cyst but I was bleeding so much they had to take my whole ovary out. I still managed to get pregnant with dd2 a few years later, but the recovery was long and uncomfortable.

Hopefully your one will be different but you should be on consultant led care to monitor it.

that pregnancy ended in miscarriage when they found the cyst but I am pregnant again. Haven’t had any scans though yet to see if their sister is still there but when I had my Midwife appointment on Wednesday, she said that I will be consultant lead anyway due to the previous complications with my little boy. I didn’t have the cyst when I had my little boy six years ago.

I was told as my cyst was a dermoid one, I had likely had it all my life and it wasn't going to go unless it was removed (as it was filled with solid matter 🤢).

did it grow throughout pregnancy and any symptoms from it?
sometimes when i haven’t emptied my bladder it feels heavy on that side.. or i get a few twinges.. im pretty sure the cyst is still there
i will definitely be getting it removed!
i’m not sure when my cyst appeared but im pretty sure it wasn’t there when i was pregnant with my LB!

I don't remember them saying anything about it growing. It's just that I hadn't had any symptoms before getting pregnant, so had no idea it was even there before!
