AIBU to suggest a new Mumsnet topic called ‘The Void’?

Sometimes I’ve found I just need a space to scream my thoughts into… without judgment or comment, just to get it off my chest. A bit like an online version screaming into a pillow. I did this recently here and it was very cathartic; but I feel it could do with a topic page of its own… a place to offload without a potential pile on….
Tonight’s scream into the void is: why the fuck am I always responsible for the fucking details of every Fucking trip that I organise, even though my husband knows where we are going and when? It’s his birthday and yet apparently I need to know where we could eat on one night, despite having planned every other fucking detail. And it’s my fault for raising it!!! 😱😱… he’s not a bastard, just ASD and thoughtless.

I was having a ponder about husband's earlier and their ability to just sit back and be told what to do.

Mine has been nagging for weeks to ring virgin media because the account is in my name. So I did the three bastard hours trying to sort a new router and package out, most of that spent on hold because apparently the last hour I spent got cancelled.

It came today and I left it out for him to hook up while I was at work because he's got more patience with those long arse passwords and id done my bit.

It was still in the sodden box when I got home. Apparently it didn't occur to him and I never told him to do it. Hmm

It was a stern short conversation about settling into a passive roll in our marriage, because that isn't sexy.

Ha. I like the idea but it would have to have replies and quoting disabled so it was a genuine shout into the void and no bugger could try to convince you you were wrong.

FranklyIgiveadamn · 23/07/2026 23:36

@murasakigood point. The mistake I made in my ‘scream into the void’ is trying to justify it… the scream should be absolute.

Chat gpt is your friend here!!

Whenever I need to get something off my chest, she's who I turn to!! Blush
Always gives good fair advice- and like you say, sometimes you just gotta get it off your chest!!!!

You could start a blog if they’re still a thing. Bet you’d get quite a following.

Personally, I think a new forum for that is pointless, especially with that title. MN already has two many vague forums, too much overlap, too many hidden forums.

Based on your post here, for instance, this would be for a forum dealing with marriage, since the problem is your relationship with your husband.

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 24/07/2026 00:41

I’d call it The Scream

I think the OP is trying to say it's not really a problem that needs solving, she just wants a vent.

If that's right, I hear you OP. All relationships come with frustrating aspects along with the good ones. Not everything is a problem to be solved, some of them are just things to accept as part of the bigger picture. But yes a vent into the void can be extremely cathartic!

I think that, call it what you will, posters will offer comments, judgments and solutions.

I'd put this one in Relationships, possibly JUST VENTING in bold caps.

ThatCheeseNeedsEating · 24/07/2026 01:26

Sometimes you don't want an answer or an opinion, you just need a moan. Sometimes you know you were in the wrong but so what?!!! Good to let it out instead of having to dig a hole in the back garden.......the soil's rock hard with lack of rain anyways......

But it's not a problem she wants advice or your opinion on. She just needs to scream it out.

OP I think it's an excellent idea. A place to shout about your problems and receive no advice, however well intentioned! Sometimes you need that!

It doesn't matter what the OP wants. Advice and opinions is what she'll get.

CoffeeCantata · 24/07/2026 11:39

I know what you mean!

I get cross when an OP asks for say, things which irrationally annoy you...and then some bright spark takes issue and starts arguing with pps. The whole point of such a thread is that, yes, your posts are about things which probably shouldn't annoy you, but do.

I'm all for a ranting space!!!

Not in The Void. Any posters giving unwanted advice are immediately banned.

FranklyIgiveadamn · 24/07/2026 19:00

There’s always one isn’t there 🙄? … anyway thanks to those with the positive comments….

I’m sure even the Void would get ‘advice’ unless comments were turned off but there is something nice about knowing that someone’s heard me, without judgement. It’s good to get an acknowledgment.

I’ll have a try at Chat GPT or similar @anon12345anon

I don’t think I have the commitment for a blog @youplonkerdave

True, but wouldn't you agree that even when we just want to vent, we might be open to a useful suggestion?
If, hypothetically, if you were venting about your helpless fury about an awful medical diagnosis for your child, wouldn't it be best to vent in a health forum where someone might be likelier to have useful advice?

Amiiee · 24/07/2026 22:46

Usernames for The Void are created upon usage. First poster is Voidscreamer1 then Voidscreamer2 and so on. No links to previous posts.

Not in The Void. The OP is very clear about the rules. No advice. Just sympathy.

You would of course be free to vent in the health section if you wanted advice. I don't think the suggestion is to only have The Void, just that it would be an option for those who want it. Everyone else who wants medical advice from strangers on the internet can continue to post in every other section where unsolicited advice can continue to flourish.
