How often to sweep the kitchen floor

To not want to sweep the kitchen floor 3 times a day (at least) after each meal at a minimum. I know I am a complete sloven so have a skewed idea of what is reasonable, but is everyone else doing it this often? My dh gets angry if it isn’t done (he does it himself but gets very martyr-ish about it)

I do mine once a day ish. If your DH is so fussy let him get on with it but he doesnt get to martyr himself. I bet he’s not making 3 meals a day is he?

Tell him to fuck off and buy himself a robot hoover.

Mine goes round twice a day, does the whole ground floor.

And the other one does upstairs once a day 😂.

Technically I don't do it at all. But my Robot goes around the kitchen and hall twice daily

We did try a robot hoover maybe we should try it again? Does it not get stuck on the chair legs under the table? He gets particularly exercised about under the table.

How are you managing to make such a mess on the floor or is it your DH imagination. He sounds like he has a problem. Is he controlling and angry about other things in the house. That's not normal to get angry about something like that.

I hoover with cordless every day or every other day minimum but have a small kitchen diner living room open plan. Plus 3 small children so it always needs doing

He genuinely needs it done after every meal, not even just once a day. I don’t think he would wait for a robot hoover to do it.

I dont have small kids, so basically sweep when it looks like it needs it. Definitely not every day

Our kitchen is just that and the dining table and chairs are in a separate space. I do the kitchen once or more a day. Under the table is after dinner unless there’s awful crumbage before that. I wouldn’t tolerate anger about fucking sweeping. If he’s that bloody bothered he can do it himself. We have and use a robovac but only overnight a couple of times a week.

Always after cooking/eating main meals. Or if messy snacks are made/eaten. I'll do it if I've been using the kitchen. I expect others to do the same and do find it annoying if it isn't done. It's not a big ask and it's not difficult so I do expect it done.

We have a cordless vac on the wall in the utility room and one of us will quickly vacuum the kitchen area every day. Takes no time.

Do you have small kids dropping food?

We probably sweep the floor twice a week. We have teens so not making a mess.

Your husband gets angry that you don't sweep the floor ? I hoover mine every day usually any big bits of dropped food i pick up.(or the dog gets it) .

No. He doesn’t need it done that often. He wants it done that often and he needs to do it himself. I take it his controlling and anger go beyond cleaning standards and he’s an unpleasant bully who has you dancing around his moods?

I vacuum, then mop, once a week and just spot clean spillages with a dustpan and brush or kitchen roll in between.

Get a dog. I couldn’t believe how much less frequently we had to sweep when we got a dog.

That said, your husband’s reaction sounds totally unacceptable.

For me it depends on much mess is made after every meal. When it was just my husband & I, I don’t think it even got swept every day if I’m totally honest, 2 adults didn’t make much mess! Now there are 2 adults, 2 dogs and 2 very young children (one toddler, one weaning baby) I really do need to send in a cleaning squad after every meal though😂

What is so difficult about doing a quick sweep after meals? Not judging, it's a genuine question.

I'm like your DH and do the same. The reason I expect others in the home to do the same is because we all contribute to mess in some way so we should all clean up too.

I do it far too seldom. But no one has died, and the dog hoovers the cheese/meat spillages.

Wouldn’t recommend a Lab for this purpose!! They will happily hoover up the food dropped BUT the hair they leave behind requires significantly more hoovering and sweeping, ask me how I know😂

I've got a rabbit hutch in my kitchen, so having to hoover up every day.

In fairness, he does mostly clean the kitchen himself because he is not happy with the standard I or the kids do it to. Tonight the argument started because I was to clean the kitchen, and sat down without brushing under the table. He told me to do it and when I got up with the brush he swore at me, so I threw the brush down and left. Which got me thinking is even reasonable to insist on this much brushing (as I said I dont know because I’m naturally fairly messy).
