AIBU to wear men’s deodorant?

aibu to wear Men’s Sure Maximum Protection roll-on deodorant?

It is so lovely - the scent reminds me of DH in his Sporty Era (dh for some reason switched brands and no longer smells delicious).

It started last year when I was hospitalised and bedbound unexpectedly in the middle of the summer and instead of bringing in my own toiletries Dh just decided to bring me his own 🤷 and now I’m hooked.

dh doesn’t seem to care, and I don’t wear it on “sex days” and apparently hasn’t therefore noticed/ commented that I no longer smell like “cotton” or spring flowers or whatever.

To me this seems perfectly reasonable but I wondered, in a committed relationship, if it’s some sort of faux pas to adopt the scent of your dh as your own…

They didn't; you would normally need both toiletries and clothes.

OP just said that he brought her his toiletries 'instead of' her own, so I've no idea if that meant everything or just one or two items?! She didn't say that he brought her own toiletries but also popped in his own deo as well.

I don't understand how this is so difficult. He did not bring her his clothes.

I wear DH's whenever I run out. Intrigued about the sex days though, are they scheduled in? Do you write it on the calendar?

Who needs a Calendar entry when he’s so bang on schedule (no pun intended) that he’d make Mussolini’s train timetable look amateur?

Don’t overthink the whole toiletries/clothes thing. He brought clothes (somewhat impractical ones he said “were the only ones he could find” so I had to deploy dd to rummage my wardrobes)

No he brought me my clothes! Just his own toiletries as he “couldn’t find mine” in the drawer they lived in for the past 12 years. I put it down to the emotional distress of realising I was going to be unable to perform my role as super mum for a few months.

@Damnthatmouse alternatively- perhaps me smelling faintly like him is the ultimate compliment / feeds his Inner Narcissist?

Me and my DH have been using the same men’s sure roll on since we met. It’s no big deal. It’s just a deodorant. The ‘sex days’ thing is mad. Every day is a school day on here!

Thank you @Lurkingandlearning .

Sex Days: Defined in the handbook of Long Term Marriages as:

“the days upon which busy working parents traditionally participate together in intimate acts of marital union. Typically - but not restricted to - Sundays, Bank Holidays, days upon which the children all have sleepovers (see also “Simultaneous Sleepover days”), and Spousal Birthdays.”

MeridaBrave · 22/07/2026 09:19

why ask? Why not wear every day? Use whatever suits you.

OhLaDiDaDiDa · 22/07/2026 09:20

@Screamingabdabz Manybyears ago I read a Cosmo article recommending that pheromones work best without deodorant, hence better sex.

But practically speaking, one can’t wander about without deodorant on in the hope dh will find time in his gym/work schedule together romantic.

You can wear what you like. Why would you be unreasonable?

itsgettingweird · 22/07/2026 09:22

I often wear men’s.

Just because I stock up when it’s on offer (find it soften cheaper than woman’s) and it means there’s always a deodorant in the house that me or ds (21) can use.

I use spray one though.

I often also use mens shower gel for the same reason.

Your reading comprehension must be much better than mine if you've seen where OP has confirmed this!

EDITED: Ah, I see that OP has now updated and clarified this...

But was it such a stretch before she did, to wonder whether he would be consistent in his packing of the two kinds of items, or if he would understand with the one but not with the other?!

Have a day off you two. He brought her clothes. It was just her deodorant that he couldn't find.

Seems a shame not to specifically include Pancake Day in the list - all of those stodgy calories to burn off.

@ParsleySageToiletDuckAndBinBags that’s exactly the kind of logic my marriage needs.

Did he bring you in his toothbrush as well?! How bizarre!

When you put your deodorant on at 7/8/9am in the morning, do you already know then whether it’s a sex day and to not put on men’s deodorant?

Sundays, Bank Holidays, days upon which the children all have sleepovers (see also “Simultaneous Sleepover days”), and Spousal Birthdays = flowery women’s deodorant so the man knows it is time

Definitely not unreasonable to wear what you like, regardless of who it is marketed for. It’s also acceptable for men to wear deodorant or other products marketed for women if they prefer them.

Personally I’m a total Fussy convert and love ranting about the evils of anti-perspirant to anyone who will listen!

killerqueen2026 · 22/07/2026 09:55

I wear the men’s sure cream one all the time

For some reason (maybe the 'being in hospital' theme), that reminded me of an old MN thread about ridiculous things that customers/service users have said to you in your workplace.

One poster worked in a hospital and a grown man came in and said "I've been told that Grandad has been brought in - can I visit him, please?". When she asked what the patient's name was, to find the right ward, he looked at her like she was utterly stupid and said "I already told you: his name is Grandad!!"

DH’s grandma died just after I’d found out I was expecting DC2. After her funeral I said to DH that, if the baby was a girl, we could call her after grandma. He told me that you can’t call a baby “Grandma”.

Back to the thread… @OhLaDiDaDiDawear whatever deodorant works for you. I often find men’s is better. See also socks, t shirts, knitwear.

I've been using mens deodorant for years, works better than womens

That reminds me of the old joke about the motivational speaker who is demonstrating the clear link between people's obvious personal happiness levels with how often they have sex.

He asks a couple on the front row, who are all smiles, how often they do it and they say every single day. He then asks a couple in the middle, who have neutral looks on their faces, and they say maybe once or twice a month. He gestures to a couple over to the side, who have faces like thunder, and they admit that it's been a few years since they've been intimate.

Just to finally and conclusively prove his point, he calls to a very elderly couple right at the back who are grinning maniacally, giggling and looking like they're overflowing with joy.
"Tell me, if I may ask: how often do you have sex?"
The woman says "Strictly just once every 25 years".
The speaker is perplexed and says "But... but... how... why are you two the happiest people in the room, then?!"
They both scream out in unison, "Tonight's the night!!!"
