You need to say what height you are but I’m 5’8” and was 15.5stone and was in the obese bracket even though I felt I didn’t look it.

I am obese but have recently got BMI down from 39 to 31 so hopefully soon will just be overweight!

mumofsevenfluffs · 21/07/2026 22:55

5’6 and 160kg so morbidly obese

Ved · 21/07/2026 22:58

I was. I am 5 ft 4 and was 13 and a half stone at the start of this year. Been between 13 stone and 14 stone for about a decade actually, and had been 13 and a half stone (about 85-86 kilos,) for about 3 years... I have lost 2.5 stone (16 kilos,) this past 6 months, and am now 11 stone. (Around 69 kilos.)

Still classed as overweight, but am so much healthier, full of beans, and energetic. I have dropped from size 20 to size 14, and lost 8-9 inches off my waist...

I appreciate little things like being able to cut my toenails properly, bend down to pick things off the floor easier, get up from a squatting position without aid/without pushing myself up off the floor, sitting comfortably in the my local theatre seats, (without feeling squashed,) getting dressed without catching rolls of fat, being able to wipe my bum properly (sorry!) and no longer having my belly touching the steering wheel when I'm driving the car. I can also walk further and stand up longer without feeling weary/out of puff. The GP is very happy with me, and says I will have gained significant health benefits losing 2.5 stone.

I’m 5’ 5” and am just on the edge of obese at 85kg and a BMI of 30. Managed to lose 2kg over the past month so hoping to get it down to overweight soon.

travailtotravel · 21/07/2026 23:00

I'm overweight diwn from morbidly obese. I've got more to lose for sure but the BMI calculator says another basically 15kg to be healthy. Firstly super hard and secondly I will look emaciated. I'm trying but not gonna beat myself up to get there quickly.

AreGhostsJustFlatmatesWhoDontPayRent · 21/07/2026 23:01

Im 5ft 5 and 89kg, I was 107kg 100 days ago but I've now moved from class 2 obesity to class 1 apparently, 8 more kg and Im just overweight

LetMeStayInBed · 21/07/2026 23:02

5’3” 14.3

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/07/2026 23:03

I’m 5’3, just under 15 stone and morbidly obese I think! I used to be 16st 7 so I’m less morbidly obese now

ToffeePennie · 21/07/2026 23:03

I am. I’m morbidly obese. I carry it well though so most people don’t realise how big I really am. Im 163cm and 115kg and I need to loose weight for surgery, but I can’t because the tablets I am on make it impossible.

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/07/2026 23:05

ACTUALLY I am only severely obese! Which is nice. Morbidly over 40 apparently

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 21/07/2026 23:05

I'm 5 foot 6 and 13 stone 6lb. Obese. Bmi just over 30. I don't think I look massive but maybe I've simply lost perspective.

BurntBroccoli · 21/07/2026 23:09

Is everyone accounting for frame size, muscle mass and overall body proportions? Or just using inaccurate BMI?

Pistachiocake · 21/07/2026 23:12

I don't really like the way some people class themselves based on kg/cm height. My gym released an article showing how some of its healthiest, fittest instructors would be classed as overweight, nearly obese in one case. BMI was meant to monitor population, not individuals, and it worries me that some people won't exercise because they don't want their legs to get big, ie have muscle.
And some people can appear thin, but actually have more of the dangerous visceral fat.

AgileMentor · 21/07/2026 23:13

I’m classed as morbidly obese carry most weight on my belly so legs are smaller, but I’m happy. I’ve got over the oh my god are they looking at me because I don’t actually care anymore.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/07/2026 23:14

I was when I was 13.11 and 5.5. I’m now 12.3 and overweight

You need to say what height you are but I’m 5’8” and was 15.5stone and was in the obese bracket even though I felt I didn’t look it.

I'm 5ft 8. I was 16st 4. I'm now 14 st 2 lbs, and that still falls within the NHS obese category.

I carry most of my weight on my stomach, which means that I'm in the most dangerous category for visceral fat. (I'm 66. Apparently, you tend to carry the weight more on your stomach the older you are?)

I had an Inbody scan in April which suggested that I'm at the top end of 'normal' for muscle and it confirmed that I was at the worst level for visceral fat.

I've been exercising a lot since then and my size has decreased at the sides but not the front. I'll probably have another scan shortly. Nevertheless, I know that my visceral fat is at a dangerous level - my arms are skinny by comparison with the rest of me, I've lost fat on my chest and my face has come down.

The point that I'm making is that BMI isn't the whole story - though I'm only just within the obese category now, I'm still within the danger zone because of my visceral fat.

youplonkerrodney · 21/07/2026 23:15

Do you want to tell us your story OP? How you got to be this weight?

Obesity can become a medical problem and make life harder for some, but I have a good friend who is technically obese while still very healthy. She is tall and has a naturally large frame. Remember your BMI is just a statistic. And also that you deserve to be healthy, at whatever size is right for you x

socks1107 · 21/07/2026 23:19

Yes I was 18 months ago. Don’t beat yourself up, many of us have been there, are still there and will be again.
are you looking to lose weight or just acknowledging it

ChewbaccasMrs · 21/07/2026 23:23

I am and I'm 5ft 6 but something seems to have clicked the last couple of weeks and I've not eaten any sweets, chocolates, crisps, savoury snacks fizzy drinks, ice cream or take aways so I'm really pleased,I'm going on holiday in a few weeks so anything I've lost by then(already lost some)I'll be happy with.

Ruthietuthie · 21/07/2026 23:23

I was. 88 kg at 5'3''.
I took the injections and am now around 57 kg.
I had lost sight of how big I was getting and how I actually looked. I saw a photograph and was astonished as, to me, in the mirror, I didn't look big at all.

XenoBitch · 21/07/2026 23:58

Yes, my BMI is 38 right now. I am on meds that are known for weight gain, so it is a balance between being fat, and not totally losing my mind.

OntheTrainX · 22/07/2026 00:11

Yes, I was, and Mounjaro helped. I started it in February 2025 and finished summer 2025. My bmi dropped from 36 to 26.

I don’t think I looked terrible but I did feel unhealthy.
