Why is reddit so wank?

Freinddilemma · 17/07/2026 19:16

Wheel of death when you try and join s sub.

If you manage to join a sub and try to make a post, 9/10 it gets rejected for [read miniscule small print for this specific sub]

Oh, and: you cant just read shit on your browser. You have to use their shitty app that doesnt work (see above).

Why is reddit so anally retentive? Its such an uptight platform

Full of TRAs

There's over 100,000 active subreddits and the vast majority have nothing to do with trans rights

What, every single subreddit? 🙄

DeterminedRat · 18/07/2026 12:08

I really like reddit too. I'm a serial hobbyist and love that there is a subreddit for every hobby imaginable. I also like my local subreddits.

Does missing the point usually work well for you?

murasaki · 18/07/2026 12:09

Just stay out of the bits you don't like. I mostly post in tv subs or the one for my football team, which is well informed, funny, and brilliant on match day for live updates and comments. it is what you make of it, much like any other platform.

CalmWriter · 18/07/2026 12:11

I love Reddit!

I’ve never had any issues, both on the app and on a browser it works great, heavily moderated so no childish, pathetic comments like you get on other social media platforms, no page long scrolling ads like the ones common on MN.

What point was that, exactly?

MenstrualTramps · 18/07/2026 12:11

And I do find most people are kinder than the posters on mumsnet. Such snark on here, its interesting to see the contrast.

Agree! I just posted a question in legalcanada as it was about a legal term used in Canada it was immediately locked as not 'on topic for thread' LOL. Posted on ASKACANADIAN deleted as 'better suited to another subreddit' Like which then??

I know its mental!!!! This morning I got a notification saying they had locked my account because they had noticed some "technical irregularities". What?

I agree. Ignore the fucker. Life's better without it.

4Lightz · 18/07/2026 12:41

I like reddit, never had an issue with the app or getting posts deleted, as long as you follow the rules of the sub. People tend to be kind to each other, which is something you see less of on mumsnet. Everybody seems so angry on here.

Ok well r/norules exists. It’s still subject to reddit’s general terms though, no illegal content, harassment, etc.

But if you don’t get on with it you can just not use it. I had a similar issue with tictoc, just couldn’t get to grips with it at all, maybe I’m too old! It doesn’t make it wank though.

I mean, it is full of tras because its a majority American site. But a lot of them can be avoided. I love the horror and horror book subs, I've gotten great suggestions from there.

Lol this just happened to me here on MN yesterday. They tell you to email with the incident Ray something something ID, except of course the most logical place to look up the email fir tech support is the very site they'd just loved me out of 🤣🤣.

You can't ever have been on the various Bad Roommates and/or AITA subs. Plenty of "oooh you're such a doormat" snark on there (albeit often justifiably so).

KatiePricesKnickers · 18/07/2026 13:58

Reddit is great. Always someone willing to help. The (practical) knowledge of the world is being gathered there.
AI gets a lot of its responses from Reddit.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 18/07/2026 14:05

I love Reddit and I’ve never had any of those problems or found the rules particularly onerous. It also works just fine in my browser.

What subs are you joining and what are you posting?!

supercrone · 18/07/2026 14:16

I like it

Love Reddit. I owe a lot to the Late Bloomer Lesbian sub (which is very clearly not mod'd by blokes!).

Lol, knowing Reddit that is precisely the sub that is probably moderated by a man. (One who resides in Malaga.)

Set up your own subreddit then. It's easy enough to do

Oh I know. I follow popculture and fauxmoi and they have some very strong (and wrong) opinions about jkr for example. But I just ignore those threads and read the gossip ones.

Balloonhearts · 18/07/2026 16:23

Some subs are just pointless. There's a clothes one that won't let you say anything negative. One 15 year old was asking if her parents had a point when they won't let her wear this get up that wouldn't have looked out of place in a brothel.

I gave up in the end. Tried the words, cheap, trashy, too adult for you, too revealing, eventually resorted to 'it gives the impression you're looking for a certain kind of attention that you most definitely are not. ' Nope, not allowed.

It was a red leather corset that barely covered her nipples, it was so tight, laced with black ribbon, black leather looking skirt, long fur edged gloves and fur edged shrug. How else do you say 'you cannot wear that, just in case you need to cross the road and there's a misunderstanding?' But with no negative words?
