Why is reddit so wank?

Freinddilemma · 17/07/2026 19:16

Wheel of death when you try and join s sub.

If you manage to join a sub and try to make a post, 9/10 it gets rejected for [read miniscule small print for this specific sub]

Oh, and: you cant just read shit on your browser. You have to use their shitty app that doesnt work (see above).

Why is reddit so anally retentive? Its such an uptight platform

It has some great subs, although I don’t love the tree branch thread structure.

I rarely post though. I’ve replied to comments on rate occasions and they have appeared under the relevant tree branch.

BurntBroccoli · 17/07/2026 20:19

On the contrary, I love Reddit! Have been on about 3 years now and have a very good karma count!

It is very well moderated which is a good thing unlike X or Facebook.

p0pple · 17/07/2026 20:21

I’ve not had those problems with Reddit, but all apps crash every now and then. Reddit can be confusing to use at first but I much prefer it to Mumsnet, which is far more unhinged!

isn’t it mostly run by men?

Ha ha I think so too! I really like the up and down voting system.

WalterMittysPuppet · 17/07/2026 20:27

I've been an avid user, I follow some really interesting subs and some (not all, obvs) posters are admirably witty and clever. I love the UK based subs where people all over the world ask about our quaint traditions and tease us for our queueing and tea drinking habits.

There's plenty of dross though and the tree branch structure can be frustrating - occasionally there will be a branch of 250 responses all trying to outdo one another in terms of banter, which is a million miles away from the original topic.

You would never know as everyone is anonymous.

sonjadog · 17/07/2026 20:29

I love reddit. You really can find a discussion of just about anything there. Some of it is complete dross, of course, but there are some real gems. I use the browser, it works fine... Never tried the app.

Not sure if it's mainly men but you can get a pile on at times if even a couple of people down vote

Oliveoy · 17/07/2026 20:31

It really depends on the sub and its mods. Some are very chilled out, some are ridiculous. But there's a sub for pretty much everything and in the grand scheme of things, most are friendly and easy to post on

13RidgmontRoad · 17/07/2026 20:33

Love Reddit. I owe a lot to the Late Bloomer Lesbian sub (which is very clearly not mod'd by blokes!).

SunnyKhakiMaker · 18/07/2026 10:11

Agree! I just posted a question in legalcanada as it was about a legal term used in Canada it was immediately locked as not 'on topic for thread' LOL. Posted on ASKACANADIAN deleted as 'better suited to another subreddit' Like which then??

Can you contact mod of the subreddit?

I like reddit and it can be really interesting but you can get a lot of female 'adverts'! Then you have to explain that's not why you went there.

One quite sweet one was looking for an English husband, I had to explain I didn't fit the bill.

UrbanSoul · 18/07/2026 11:06

I like Reddit because you can reply directly to a comment. You can delete your own posts and block annoying twats.

emnetstrozzapreti · 18/07/2026 11:11

Never had any problems with moderation, but it varies by sub.

I've never used the app and haven't had any problems with the website, across multiple browsers and devices.

UrbanSoul · 18/07/2026 11:12

The app works fine for me. I mostly use old Reddit on my laptop though. I dread the day I'm forced to use New Reddit.

Crumpetring · 18/07/2026 11:14

Haven’t had these issue with Reddit

Missey85 · 18/07/2026 11:16

I love Reddit and never have problems hell I have more problems with the stupid Mumsnet app that never works

EmeraldRoulette · 18/07/2026 11:19

I haven't actually joined the forum and I hope they keep it so that you can just look at it

They have some really excellent discussions on there about books, about TV drama, films etc. I presume because they're actively moderated, that's why you don't get the dross about "this is a hate watch" "that person's hair looks terrible" or posts by people who've misunderstood who the characters are and stuff.

I'd much rather have those conversations on here but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. But I enjoy reading those threads if I've been really into something.

I'm sure it has its fair share of crazy on other threads. But whoever is doing the modding on the ones I look at is doing a very good job.

Tollington · 18/07/2026 11:29

I quite like Reddit. I follow a few subs. I don’t make that many posts though.

I made one recently commenting on the photo that the discussion was about and got a message saying my post had been removed because it didn’t supply any evidence to back up what I had commented lol.

I won’t bother posting on that one again, some of the admin are on power trips. Not all subs are like that. AskUK is better for us Brits in a sea of US subs and members

Full of TRAs

MenstrualTramps · 18/07/2026 12:00

I love the cat subreddits, I'm subbed to about 10 of them 😁 also like to read people's reactions to tv shows I watch, like Star City and House of the dragon. I always discover something I missed.

There are obviously some unhinged subs, like the Kate Middleton and Megan markle ones, I just read them for the laughs.

Also, its definitely mostly run by men who dont have the best opinion of women but I just avoid the incel subs.

NaturallyCuriousCat · 17/07/2026 20:30

Same as on MN. If one person jumps on your comment, everyone else follows.

Mycoatisposhbutimnot · 18/07/2026 12:02

Lots of subs run by lefties who are young men. Idiots. Bet they have those black rubber earrings that make your earlobe look like a polo.
