I read a Met Office report today which stated that temperature highs in the UK have increased by 4.5 degrees C over the past decade. If this trend continues, in 2036 we might have highs of 45 degrees and in 2046 (only 20 years away) highs of 50 degrees. Animals will be dying, more humans will be dying. I am so thankful to have had the foresight to not bring children into this situation as I can't even imagine how inhospitable the Earth might become in their lifetime. AIBU to feel sorry for children who will probably live to witness and experience unimaginable suffering?

Zero point being worried about climate change when the powers in the world that could possible help arent going to contribute to it continually meaning whatever us little small people do means sweet fuck all. Blessed art thou for being oh so on your high child free horse that you will undoubtedly get the first plane to heaven when the world does end. Well done 👏

It’s not about ‘the weather’ it’s global warming and the fact that our planet is getting too hot because of us and that will have disastrous consequences probably in my lifetime definitely in my children’s.

That aside, yes summers are getting hotter and winters wetter. We need to learn to adapt and become more resilient rather just flap about it.

Raise your kids to love life, be resourceful and practical. It’s not so long ago we were all like this. 100-150 years or so. Modern life has made us soft ( including me) but if life becomes tough again, humans will survive if they know how to.

The wonderful thing about living things is, that they either adjust, evolve or die out. In the meantime they are busy procreating. This will continue until we have a similar atmosphere on Earth as Mars has - full of carbondioxide.

We have all known about climate change for many many years. If people chose to have children knowing about it that is their decision so no good moaning about it now.

Me and DH decided over 40 years ago not to have children with climate change being one of the reasons why we thought having children was not a good idea.

Now in our 70's we are so glad we made that decision and don't have to worry about our children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren etc having a shit future

If it is a problem, then most governments are actively pushing towards it. The new data centres popping up everywhere pushing the electricity prices up for everyone. At least Jane or John can discuss their latest emotive crisis with ChatGBT.

The Government’s are allowing Europe to be flooded with mass immigration.

Russia, Ukraine, America, Israel and Iran dropping bombs, 10,000’s of dead bodies stacked in rivers, lakes and dug holes all over Sudan and the Congo pollution.

Rubbish companies in business for money. One company in Ireland was caught after burying rubbish, 5 times the size of the titanic buried in the soil.

Until the people who have the money and power decide to behave, rich flying all over the world, then the new rich the Molly Mae’s and Conor McGregor’s of the world in their private plane. it is pointless.

There have been a lot of these threads in the last few years, They each find a slightly different way of being anti children. The increase coincided with a certain board being campaigned for and provided. Many posters there are lovely, but I pity people who make not having children their whole identity.

Another one missing OPs point. Of course you think it was worth it, you got what you wanted. This is about your kids who will be dealing with the burning planet long after you've probably gone.

Back to the point! Yes, very worrying for all of us, and for the next couple of generations.

Talking to my very elderly dad recently, he said we are totally unprepared for the next wave of migration, as people move north from the global south to escape the heat - the impact on food crops and water availability (so viability for humans) will be huge.

It’s illogical not to have children because of every problem going on in the world. There are so many issues facing humanity that if everyone took the same logic, we would die out tomorrow!
Climate change is of course an issue, but people will either adapt or go extinct. And if humans go extinct, so be it 🤷‍♀️ the earth will reset and probably be better for it. In millions more years a human-like species might evolve again, or it might not!

When I had two babies and was very sleep deprived and struggling with zero support, my SIL smugly told me she wouldn’t be having children as it wasn’t environmentally responsible.

in the last 12 months she and my brother have been on 8 short haul flights, eat copious amounts of red meat and have two diesel guzzling cars. I’ve realised they aren’t really that bothered about the environment. It was just a way to have a self-impressed little dig. 🤷‍♀️

Climate change is a bit of a white elephant. It's used to make money for share holders, and it's also a golden ticket for government to invent new taxes and restrictions. Ever consider why the answer to all "environmental concerns" is a new tax or charge? The UK is responsible for about 1% of all alleged "planet killing" emissions, but we are taxed, fined and regulated as though we are THE country to blame. And it's all for money. We have massive wind and solar farms, that produce "too much" power, so not only did we have to switch them off this summer, we (the bill payers) had to pay the investors who own then money to keep them switched off. We can't refine any oil here, so even if we pump the North Sea dry and Frack every fracking inch of the UK, we can't do anything with our oil or gas except sell it to others.

It's a joke. Did you know that in the UK you cant have a heat pump and a wind turbine in your garden together? The councils think it would be too noisy and aesthetically unappealing, but you can have a whole street of heat pumps, that's fine. You "must" buy an EV. But if you dont have a driveway it will cost you the same in "fuel" as a petrol car. Insurance is more, pay per mile on top. But hey, "it's for the environment innit".

We are being used and abused in the UK by politicians flogging us with the "environmental" whip, but we are an absolute irrelevance in terms of climate change. If you are worried about the environment, the best thing you can do is not have children.
