Women- Does this happen to you when you swim?

I swim. I have fun. I feel fine.

When I get out of the pool, I’m absolutely fine. Once I’m dry, have clothes on and an hour later, it’s like my waters are breaking. I sit in a different position and it all comes gushing out, like I’ve wet myself.

It’s like my cavernous fanny has sucked up the pool water like a straw and harboured it until the most embarrassing moment.

I now do some pretty odd things, including going to the loo after wards, popping my fingers in and sort of pushing everything out the way so the water can come out.

If I don’t, even if I sit poolside in my swimming suit….a wee while later, it all comes gushing out like I’ve wet myself.

Does this happen to other women? I’m 5’3 inches and had 2 natural births…. but… I don’t think my fanny and hole are particularly big.

AIBU- is this a ‘thing’ (reasonable) or not and I’m really weird (unreasonable)

Yeah this happens to me after a bath but I can push it out fairly quickly and move on with life

oh and I’ve never had a vaginal birth all sections

CurdinHenry · 15/07/2026 21:05

No...

IeatPotNoodles · 15/07/2026 21:07

Yes and it happens to my (young) daughter too so I don’t think it’s to do with having children 🥲!

MeemawMarjorieDaw · 15/07/2026 21:08

Yes but only after I'd birthed both my children.

pinkpony88 · 15/07/2026 21:09

This does happen to me but as soon as I get out the pool. Never happened after.

HappyAsASandboy · 15/07/2026 21:09

I’m not sure I voted correctly because you termed it back to front!

It is entirely reasonable for this to happen, because it is happening to you (and others). It doesn’t have to be this way at all though. Find a good women’s pelvic physio and ask for an assessment and they will help you.

SunnyRedSnail · 15/07/2026 21:09

Are you swallowing lots of water as you swim and this is wee??

A small amount could go in but your pelvic floor muscles push everything shut so it would just fall out when you stand up.

Do you do lots of pelvic floor exercises?

I always need to pee when I get out but I think I swallow a lot of water 🤣

MrsShawnHatosy · 15/07/2026 21:09

No. Never given birth.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 15/07/2026 21:10

No.

See what else you can hide up there. Coffee? Soup? A Pot Noodle??

paulinespecial · 15/07/2026 21:10

Yes. No kids and late 40s and it happens to me. Although surprisingly not if I swim in the sea or after a hot tub/spa.

Pokingbroccoli · 15/07/2026 21:11

I swim a lot and it doesn't happen to me. I've had three vaginal births and my pelvic floor is crap.

I only swim outside though but I can't see why it would be different in a pool.

LovageSage · 15/07/2026 21:11

No, it’s never happened to me. Three kids.

Daisypod · 15/07/2026 21:13

Yep used to happen to me all the time, not so much now, not sure why.

DrSeuss · 15/07/2026 21:14

Yes but it usually comes out as I leave the pool.
Do anyone else's flaps go flaps when they do a squat or is that just me?

So… turn her fanny into a Thermos?

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 15/07/2026 21:16

And, Yes 🙈

4Lightz · 15/07/2026 21:23

No, but I don’t have children.

Specialneedsnightmare · 15/07/2026 21:23

Yes

MyHorseAndMe · 15/07/2026 21:24

I have this, I go for a wee and it comes out then. Save’s looking like you’ve wet yourself

LondonLass2026 · 15/07/2026 21:24

Tilted uterus? I think I have one, and I have similar issues. NHS keep cancelling my appointments though so I've no idea what to do.
