Women- Does this happen to you when you swim?

Lightbulbs · 15/07/2026 21:03

I swim. I have fun. I feel fine.

When I get out of the pool, I’m absolutely fine. Once I’m dry, have clothes on and an hour later, it’s like my waters are breaking. I sit in a different position and it all comes gushing out, like I’ve wet myself.

It’s like my cavernous fanny has sucked up the pool water like a straw and harboured it until the most embarrassing moment.

I now do some pretty odd things, including going to the loo after wards, popping my fingers in and sort of pushing everything out the way so the water can come out.

If I don’t, even if I sit poolside in my swimming suit….a wee while later, it all comes gushing out like I’ve wet myself.

Does this happen to other women? I’m 5’3 inches and had 2 natural births…. but… I don’t think my fanny and hole are particularly big.

AIBU- is this a ‘thing’ (reasonable) or not and I’m really weird (unreasonable)

I swim twice a week and no this doesn’t happen to me but it does after bath! Like a gush hours later 🤣

Kingdomofsleep · 15/07/2026 21:25

Yes it happens to me, it's very inconvenient... I believe my pelvic floor is hypertonic ie too tense rather than not tense enough (I have other symptoms of that). I'm not sure if kegels just make it worse tbh, I've given up bothering

notcomfortable · 15/07/2026 21:25

Yes but it happened before I had children and would happen after a bath when I was younger

somanychristmaslights · 15/07/2026 21:25

Does it happen when you have a bath?

SusanChurchouse · 15/07/2026 21:26

No, but when I do spine curls in Pilates I seem to suck up air. Never happened before children. I’m considering a perineum repair.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 15/07/2026 21:26

No never. I swim every week too I rarely do breast stroke tho. Could
it be your leg position

MyDuvetDay · 15/07/2026 21:27

Yes it’s normal! It has always happened to me even as a kid. Little gush of water. Usually right after hopping out of the pool/bath.

idkbroidk · 15/07/2026 21:27

cavernous fanny made me giggle 😂u have a way with your words and i love it

CheeryOchreCat · 15/07/2026 21:28

Sometimes happens to me, not every time. One child but born by section.

Interesting what @LondonLass2026 says about the angle of the uterus though: I discovered in pregnancy that I have a retroverted uterus, which I imagine has returned to that position post-pregnancy. Do you know anything about why that might contribute to this issue?

BMW58 · 15/07/2026 21:29

Yep, has happened to me many MANY times, since teenage years. I've never had children.

Dontgetstuckinthepast · 15/07/2026 21:29

Not at swimming. But it happens if I have a long bath.
Only had sections and have a trampoline proof, post menopause pelvic floor. I can only assume that my hips tilt in the bath and water sneaks in.

DrFoxtrot · 15/07/2026 21:30

I knew what it would be from just the title 😂. The answer is yes it happens to me after swimming and after a bath.

Plensie · 15/07/2026 21:31

No, I wear a menstrual cup which would hold anything. Have 3 dcs and a retroverted uterus.

Threads like this one can become a magnet for pervs, so don't go overboard with the story sharing.

Yes, whenever I’m in water… a bath, the sea, the swimming pool…

I get that. Where else can ask this type of question anonymously?!? It’s not the type of thing I ask my friends…

No never! Not bath or swimming. 1 birth, section not vaginal (elective so no labour). Fascinating it seems quite common!

Glad I’m not on my own and it’s not just me!

I have a tilted uterus and when I used to go in the pool I did have this problem, even worst if had been down the water slide.

Summerunlover · 15/07/2026 21:34

yep it’s always happened to me.

notacooldad · 15/07/2026 21:34

No that never happens to me.
My friend said it happens to her though. I've had two kids abd so has she.

LivMumsnet · 15/07/2026 21:49

Evening all, we've had a lot of reports about this thread and it was hidden while we checked behind the scenes. We've now done that and can see that the OP has been with us a fair while and hasn't given us any cause for concern, so we're happy for the thread to continue as it is.

NCForOneNightOnly · 15/07/2026 21:50

Well you’re being unreasonable for saying cavernous fanny and making me spray tea all over my phone but no, it doesn’t happen to me 😂

FarmersBlonde · 15/07/2026 21:50

If I’ve had a bath it’s happened. I went on one of them kamikaze water slides on holiday a few years ago and gave myself an enema. I got to the bottom and it felt like half of the water went up my bumhole and I had to clench it all in for about 2 years whilst I found a toilet. 😩

CheeseWisely · 15/07/2026 21:51

PufferFish · 15/07/2026 21:22

I knew exactly what your post was going to say from the title.
And, Yes 🙈

Me too, because also yes (and it happened before I was ripped in half giving birth). I’ve not been seriously swimming since but I imagine after 10 lengths I’d have sucked the average Olympic size pool dry.
