Neighbour is playing music in their house and I can hear it from my garden 😠

I’m trying to relax in my garden after work and all I can hear is their speaker!

I can see it from the bottom of my garden, it’s on their windowsill. It’s not blaring but it’s enough that I can hear it when I go near the top of the garden. I think they’re doing some diy as I can hear furniture moving!

AIBU to go and get my hose and spray their window until it stops?! 😠

Yes you are, get a grip!

PrayForPlagues · 14/07/2026 19:19

If you want to live in silence then go and buy a house in the middle of nowhere.

Octavia64 · 14/07/2026 19:20

This is totally standard for most houses.

chinupimdancing · 14/07/2026 19:21

At the very least the speaker shouldn’t be on the window sill. I don’t want to hear her crap pop!

shellyleppard · 14/07/2026 19:23

@chinupimdancing why not just go round and ask them to please turn it down?

pag3turn3r · 14/07/2026 19:24

Edited to change this as I didn't read what you wrote properly.

Seems like you yourself say it's not that loud. So yes, you're being unreasonable.

Don’t be daft. Sounds like you need to go spray yourself with the hose pipe.

It’s not ridiculously loud if you read her post, she even said that!

But it's not ridiculously loud music. From OP "it's not blaring..."

You can't expect complete silence in the garden. Hearing neighbour's reasonable level music is to be expected when you have neighbours.

Yes I just realised that and went and changed my ranty reply.

loud neighbours touch a nerve for me as I had awful neighbours who played loud bassy music night and day and you could hear it even if you were watching TV/had your own music on.

Not the case here. I was too quick to reply.

chinupimdancing · 14/07/2026 19:28

I don’t think the type of person who listens to that music will be amenable to a polite request.

As it’s after 7pm I’d certainly expect music to stop!

Your request isn’t polite it’s unreasonable.

Wherethedogsits · 14/07/2026 19:34

I don’t have neighbours it’s great but if I did I would expect some noise.
They are as entitled to enjoy their music as you are to sit outside.

I don’t think the type of person who listens to that music will be amenable to a polite request.

What type of person listens to that music?

11pm - 7am is the rule regarding music

That’s the council, not my opinion.

It’s that shit pop music that only idiots like.

7pm is early, there is no 7pm rule and you don’t have a right to silence. You sound quite uptight tbh.

7pm is early. If you want to live in silence you need to live somewhere remote.
if it was 1am I would have some sympathy for you

Skatefordinner · 14/07/2026 19:42

Well don’t you sound delightful? Making judgments on someone’s entire personality because of the music they listen to? Also yes… it’s not late and you said it wasn’t that loud. YABU. Go and get yourself a nice cottage in the countryside.

dancingdeidre · 14/07/2026 19:43

Can't you knock at the door and say that the sound is carrying a surprisingly long way and please could they turn the volume down and/or move the speaker off the window sill? It's worth a try.
