AIBU to think a school water fight during a hosepipe ban is wrong?

So DD's school is planning to go ahead with a water fight afternoon tomorrow despite the area being subject to a hosepipe ban. I know it's all for a bit of fun but it really doesn't sit well with me, where is their social conscience? And what does that teach the children about rules of society? To top it off we had a message sent home tonight about how much of an "Eco-school" they are. AIBU in thinking WTF?

Agree. It's like our local comp cutting down perfectly healthy trees because they wanted more teacher parking, whilst having an empty car park 100 yards away

It's fucking boiling the kids will have a lovely time don't be a drip. Hosepipe bans are a joke in a country where it rains constantly and water companies don't fix leaks and up their prices x 3 to resolve their issues getting fines for dumping sewage in our seas. I don't think we need to worry about our 'social' conscience when they have the morals of a serial killer.

I'll start giving a shit about hosepipe bans and people's adherence to them, once the water companies stop ignoring millions of liters of leaks daily, and stop paying out extortionate dividends to their shareholders first. If there was ever a hosepipe ban in my area I'd ignore it.

Tbh, I don't think the world (or water) will end with one water fight at school.

My daughter has been talking about this all year as her school traditionally have a Y6 water fight but it was cancelled last year due to a hosepipe ban in our area. Fortunately, we haven't got one in our area this year or school would cancel it. I think you are right about what it teaches the children. It's a sense of entitlement - we want to have fun so we are going to do it regardless of the rules. I don't always think it's fair to impose bans when gallons of water is wasted in unfixed leaks, but not following the rules isn't the right way to go about it in my opinion.

They can fill containers (even paddling pools) from an outdoor tap, it doesn't have to be from a hosepipe. How do you know that they aren't doing that? All of the kids can be involved in helping out to do it and then the water fight can begin.

The kids will love it. What is it that you don't like about it? You could write in and say that your child should not be allowed to participate if you wish. Or you could loosen up and not be too prim and proper.

Pretty sure the guidance on most water companies websites say that rather than sprinklers give your kids water pistols …

I had a water fight in PE last week, the week before, today and I intend to have another one tomorrow! So there!
We use one bucket of water. If op doesn’t flush her loo all day that should allow me to have another one on Friday.

I couldn’t get worked up about this. Think of it in terms of one hosepipe serving loads of kids. Better than all those kids doing something similar individually at home, using hundreds of hosepipes.

Shut up! When the water Companies stop loosing gazillions of millions of water due to greed, then hosepipe bans can be unjustified. Let the kids have fun for goodness sake.

YABU. Nothing wrong with a water fight. I don’t agree with hosepipe bans and certainly don’t follow them.

I’m sure the water fight would have the full backing of Saint Boris, the patron saint of truth, integrity and morals.

And as @Biker47 said, water companies must get their own ethics in order before they have the audacity to start preaching and moralising about responsible water use.

All very well people saying it's not an issue. Guess you weren't the ones without water for weeks on end and will be the first to kick up a stink when your taps run dry.
Yes the water companies are crap, doesn't change the fact that our water levels are desperately low and using water for fun really isn't very intelligent.

It's probably something like, every pupil brings their own hose to school from home. To ensure adequate pressure it will be connected to a fire hydrant by the school caretaker.

(No jet washers allowed.)

We live on an island pay ridiculous prices for water services and the schools are going to be shut down for 6 weeks using very little water so I think they will survive. The water company do this to us every year I think they should prepare properly.
