Queuing to board?

holachicatita · Today 11:19

So.. currently waiting to board my flight and me and my husband have had a disagreement. Seats are already allocated but I still like to queue and get on the flight once the gates open. He likes to sit and wait until the last minute, looking down his nose at all the silly little people queuing. AIBU to start to queue once the gates open?

Husband is correct

You are wrong

But if I was dh I'd let you go queue if you wanted

This. But as we know people seem to lose their mind re o/h lockers. Your bag/coat/hat is touching/on top of my case type arguments. Just get on board and let him get on later. Not as tho you need to board together. 'This fight is pleased to announce couples only boarding is now taking place' is not a thing.

I dont think people care if their coat collar touches someone's suitcase handle in the lockers 🙄

They do care about being told that bag is now going in the hold, increasing their wait time the other end, when they took the effort to pack light to avoid exactly that.

not really, you check-in online weeks or days. in advance, not at the airport.
If you don't have luggage to drop off, the first time you interract with someone is at the gate

Double-booking happens to maximise the empty seats from last minute no-show, it's likely they all have already checked-in anyway, it doesn't guarantee you a seat.

When you check in you get a boarding pass with a seat number
What am i missing here?

Well he does, then he'll sneak in with me.. annoying!

I suspect him being a hypocrite is annoying you.

Next time tell staff he is pushing in.

And queuing depends entirely on whether I have a cabin case only. Sometimes the last people in the queue have their cabin case put in the hold luggage.

But your husband doesn’t have to worry about that because he’s a hypocrite who benefits from his wife being the type of person he unfairly despises.

Sitting and waiting is fine as long as youre the aisle seat

notacooldad · Today 14:27

If I've got a bag that will fit under my seat I am happy to wait until I need to go on.
If it's going in the overhead cabin I'd prefer to get on sooner, get sorted with things i want nearby eg books, glasses, water etc. It is so that the cabin space doesn't fill up before im there and my bag ends up well away from me.

Or the window seat

it doesn't mean your seat is not double-booked? Or double-booking and people refused access at the gate would not happen.

It doesn't even guarantee THAT seat, if the crew need to reshuffle, or try to sit a toddler next to parents who couldn't be bothered to pay for the seat, or simply sit an injured person on the aisle because they can't bend their leg, any reason really.

The last time I didn't queue, I ended up in a tense situation with the couple behind. The man had put his coat and rucksack in the locker over my seat so I took them out and gave them to him saying the space was for cases (the lockers were full). The woman went to start on at me and he shushed her, obviously didn't want a scene. But its just awkward.

Its easier if you can get on earlier and get your stuff in. If I don't have stuff to go overhead I don't care.

The lockers are not only for cases. He was fine to put his stuff in there. You were u to take his stuff out

Nah, that's more than annoying, that's bloody rude. And I was on his side up till now.

YourOchreCat · Today 14:38

I’d rather get on the plane ASAP so I can get settled in my seat, relax and read my book.

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · Today 14:38

The husband joining you in queue at last minute he probably gets away with because people will assume he’s incapable of standing for long. So eg temporary knee injury but not disabled so doesn’t want to pre board but not able to stand for long so joins wife at last minute.

How fucking entitled are you? 😂 You think you deserve to bring a bigger case than anyone else and then to top it off treat yourself to foot room because of it?

Bellybusting · Today 14:43

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · Today 11:21

It depends on if you have a small case to go overhead. If you board last there’s often no room.

This 💯

MandingoAteMyBaby · Today 14:43

I’m with him. Wait until the very last person has gone through then go. Anything else is pure tedium.

I guess this was Easyjet or Ryanair
You pay for cabin space and small rucksack stay under the seat in front with no charge.
Poster is not being entitled she's using the cabin space she paid for

She didn’t say she’d paid for the space. I think she’s a cheeky fucker too. The guy was as entitled to the space in the locker as her. I dread encountering people like her on planes.

I'd paid extra for that case to go in the overhead lockers. It wouldn't fit under the seat. That's not entitlement. Its getting what I paid for. The other person was entitled thinking they could take up space in the lockers for a coat and a rucksack when they hadn't paid any extra. Just so they could have a more comfortable seat.

DancingLions · Today 14:48

@Cosyblankets
Yes exactly that.

Just check your luggage in from now on

tartyflette · Today 14:49

I always choose and pay for plane seats in advance but on more than one occasion recently there have been CFs sitting in them already and when I say these seats are booked they’ve said oh, that’s ok, just take ours, they’re only 15/16 rows back (and they’re both middles…)
And getting huffy when I say no, I want the ones I booked and paid for. And then making a huge production out of getting up and moving. Wankers.

Low costs specifically say that the lockers are for luggage, not clothes, and with any airline, it's common sense. Of course cases go in the locker as priority over clothes.

If airline staff is happy with the size of the case, then its place is in the locker? Where do you think it should go?

You are ALLOWED to take luggage that doesn't fit under the seat you know!

If there is an overbooking situation at the gate they will announce and ask for volunteers. Since there is compensation on Ex UK and ex EU flights, they usually get volunteers. Failing volunteers, they have various selection criteria that they apply. They don’t just let the queue get to the end and stop the last 2 people getting on.

She said that she said the space was for cases. I therefore assume that she had a case. If she'd not paid for the case she would have been stopped at the gate
