To cut all my hair off and get a curly short cut with a fringe πŸ™ˆ

Tomorrow I am going to my hairdresser. To get my hair cut after a very long time!

It’s well below my bra strap curly, well wavy at this length. Central part no fringe.

Not sure how much it will curl anymore since two pregnancies.

Tell me your fringe successes and failures. I have spent a long time thinking about this and I 98% certain I am going to do it 😬

Only if you want to style it daily!

Tofringeornot · 02/07/2026 19:14

I have no idea what that entails so blissfully ignorant 🫣

I’ve got naturally curly hair and a fringe. Quite a long chunky fringe. My hair is cut in a chin length bob, it’s so easy to style. Either I leave it to dry naturally, with a curl boosting leave in conditioner, but dry the fringe straight with my hot brush, takes two minutes max. Or I leave it all to dry naturally until just damp and straighten it dry with hot brush, Six or seven minutes max. Wash it every third day.

Shesafancyflapjack · 02/07/2026 19:29

I’ve got natural wavy hair and have a messy bob (Italian bob) it’s completely low maintenance, damp it down, scrunch with salt spray and you’re good to go. I would say adding a fringe when it’s curly can be hit and miss as it will need daily styling, and regular trims, have a chat with your hairdresser and take some ideas along, it will look great

Honeyhonayboo · 02/07/2026 19:30

Do not get a fringe with wavy hair if you want anything close to low maintenance!

Seagulldancing · 02/07/2026 19:33

I have curly hair and if I have a fringe it either need blow drying straight (which looks a bit odd) or Im in the hands of the hair gods on if it curls in any half decent way.
I grow them out as fast as I can every time I go mad and have one put in.

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 02/07/2026 19:46

My best friend has curly hair and just got a fringe and I will never tell her what I really think. She is very happy with it, but curly hair and a straight fringe always looks so heavy to me, and gives a disjointed look.

A fringe is usually a mad idea tbf. I will hopefully never succumb to the temptation again 🀣

I feel like even if it fucks up its a right of passage

Go directly to botox.

Do not pass the hairdressers.

It's liberating. No more shelling out for creams that do nothing. No more time wasted in front of the mirror trying desperately to arrange my hair over the lines.

You do not need to shell out a fortune to have it done by a doctor at Spire or wherever. Follow some of your nearest practitioners on social media and have a look at their work. Good ones will explain the science. Bad ones will be pic after pic of lips that resemble a baboon's backside.

I have a wavy/curly bob and a fringe. I let my fringe dry naturally but without product then run my GHDs over it to shape it but not fully straighten it. Grew my fringe out when pregnant to make it lower maintenance and swiftly cut it back in to hide postpartum regrowth, it’s really not that much work.

ChristmasRager · 02/07/2026 20:59

I love a fringe but not in summer - it’s insanely high maintenance and in the heatwave it’ll just be slicked to your forehead

Shesafancyflapjack · 02/07/2026 21:10

Botox is a safer fix than a full fringe when you have wavy or curly hair, the responses you’ve got here are being said from painful experience. Proceed with caution!

TooOrangey · 02/07/2026 21:17

I have curly hair. A curly fringe is never good. And curly hair with a straightened fringe looks weird.

LostMySocks · 02/07/2026 21:31

Not answering the question, but if you haven't coloured your hair and are going muxh shorter then you could consider donating the offcuts to one of the charities that makes hair for children suffering from hair loss

5128gap · 02/07/2026 21:34

I have hair that at waist length is waves and ringlets. At chin length its a bubble perm. And a fringe is not my friend. Twenty years ago I did what you're planning. Cried for a week and took a year to feel OK with my appearance.

MsAmerica · 02/07/2026 21:51

Isn't there a fashion/beauty forum where this would be more suitable?

Yes I have thought of this. I will ask the salon what the length will be. I think they will have to cut in sections as it’s going to bounce as they cut so not sure we will get the required length.

OH NO!!!

This is what I am confused about. I don’t actually know what’s going to happen when it’s cut. It only grew this long because of pregnancy hormones.

But my mother’s curls dropped out to waves at pregnancy and when I look at my baby hairs (the ones near the temples) they used to be coiled and frizzy and now are wavy curls. So I don’t think I have the same pattern as previously.

I recently got about 6" cut off my curly hair and for the first time in 30 years I have a fringe. I've got a bit obsessed with having a massive forehead recently, I don't know why. So I thought a fringe would disguise it a bit. I mostly push it to one side if that makes sense rather than dtyled like an actual fringe. I like it. It fills in my forehead a bit

It's only hair, it will grow back. I'm quite happy with mine.

I need the weight of the length to stretch my curls out. If your shorter hairs are wavy sounds like yours is more relaxed naturally than mine. Do you have layers? And are the shorter bits curlier?

Yes they are wavy now. They used to be coiled pre pregnancy.

Not many layers. My hair is so long I have to plait it after washing to let it dry and protect it. So I haven’t even naturally left it dry for years. Part of the reason I want to cut. Am fed up with the faff of long hair. I want to wash and go like I used to.

I’ve long wavy hair that I always wear up, I’ve been plying with chat GBT this week uploading a picture and asking it about hairstyles, it’s been really good

Zoflorabore · 03/07/2026 01:49

I have almost bum length hair which is wavy if I leave it to dry and curly if I style it. I’ve had a fringe my whole life ( I’m 48 ) and the closest I can describe it is Claudia Winkleman style complete with the dark hair. I also straighten it now and then which suits me best but takes bloody ages! A fringe is a huge commitment and I have to wash it every day and in the recent heat it was brutal I’m not going to lie.

im impulsive and have got ADHD and I’m desperate to chop the lot off because I feel too old for long hair but I know I will regret it! Pls don’t do anything you will regret.

lastly, my 15 year old dd has full on curls, proper 3b/c and recently got a curly fringe and it’s stunning. I didn’t think it would look right and she doesn’t use any heat on her hair at all. I don’t suppose you will know until you do it which is very daring. Pls update us 😊
