What have I just seen in the sky?

Not great photos. I didn't get my phone in time to get the v formation but did get one of one that stopped moving for a little bit.

About 20 small white dots went accross the sky just now. They were in a V formation like geese but way too high for geese. They flew one way then sharply changed by 90 degrees apart from 2 which stayed in the same place for a little bit and then followed the others. They must have been going at some speed.

Nothing on flight radar (although I know not everything shows). No noise. No vapor trails.

We do get jets over but these didn't look or sound or move like that. We are also on the flight path for a small commercial airport but the planes are always much lower than whatever these were.

I thought maybe helium balloons but they were really high and like I said there were about 20 of them. If they were somehow all attached and being blown about (there isn't even a breeze on the ground but I know that it can get windy up there) why would 2 just freeze when the others moved?

What have I just seen in the sky?

I think this is what the OP is hinting at. But of course it’s not Aliens.

Why are you so sure about that ?

notimagain · 28/06/2026 17:28

Not satellites -they're not visible in daylight.

One big problem here is it's pretty much impossible to judge the range of an unknown object against the sky.with any accuracy at all...

If a formation was practicing overland, at a weekend, near the overhead of an airport I'd expect the leader to be squawking, so visible on Flightradar....I'd also expect to hear some noise and I wouldn't expect very rapid changes in direction.

TBH my best guess would be a flock of birds, e.g. gulls or similar, but it's anyone's guess.

Kim5678 · 28/06/2026 17:30

With the sudden turning and the stopping completely I would assume drones. I’ve seen a drone light show and they can move very fast into the next formation and stay very still. They are quite loud though, but perhaps wouldn’t be if they’re very high up. I think there are rules about flying them over houses but maybe not at a certain height?

Satellites. Sadly not aliens but I'm holding out hope.

How do they stop and change direction? They are in orbit surely?

BeGreySnail · 28/06/2026 18:15

UFOs/aliens.

I wonder if there's new tech no one knows about as its got to be something?

I would not be at all surprised if there's a lot of silent, military tech that we know nothing about. And never will until the files are declassified 50 years from now.

Remember the Chinese spy balloons appearing over the US and (I think?) Norway? Ordinary people had no idea they were up there until something went wrong with them. The US military pretended they had to investigate, but don't tell me they didn't already know about them!

This totally freaks me out. Because some of the stuff discussed in Congress defied our knowledge of physics and physics freaks me out at the best of times. So if say the Chinese know more about physics than us? 🤯

I want to see disclosure day but ufos give me the fear.

Absolutely our military know what these things are. Mind you there is so much hidden from us on that front rightly so. I'm happy not knowing if we have Chinese drones over our military bases.

It's interesting that this weird stuff happens close to our bases. Let's hope it's us developing cutting edge tech. But with our spending on defence, I'm not so sure

DyslexicPoster · 28/06/2026 18:27

Also I was Just saying this week about how my relative always gives me the "there there, poor stupid you" reaction when I talk about weird phenomenon. Including Congress discussion of UFOs. Like that news never hit mainstream news. As said before UFO is anything we can't identify. They definitely exist. If they later turn out to be Chinese balloons, they are still UFO until point of identification.

I had a visual hallucinations and saw a "ghost" my relative did not belive me. Even 1%. But it's a proven fact that eg drugs and illness make people hallucinate. But I can't hallucinate as I'm a bit simple.

Well, yes, good point! I assumed that whatever it was that fly over my house was UK (or possibly US) military, and it was flying from where our nearest base is located. But, who knows?

I will say, it was far, far too low to be flying 'incognito' as it were. If it wasn't one of ours, then I would have seen fighters scrambling over the house.

It was just absolutely silent. 3am, no birds, no cars, not a hint of a sound from it, like it was just floating over the house. At about the altitude of a helicopter, so not high at all. And, in the dark, no indication of what shape it was, except for the lights in a v-formation. No blinking lights. No red lights. Just steady, bright, white lights. And very slow. Slower than a helicopter. I watched it come from the west, over the house, heading east. A full ten minutes I watched it.

Had to be military.

Imagine seeing the Harrier testing when it was a secret ?

Starlink?

notimagain · 28/06/2026 18:48

MsGreying · 28/06/2026 18:44

Starlink?

Not Starlink, very unlikely to be visible in daylight (though must check some time) and certainly not manuvering/making sharp turns..

BeMoreBear · 28/06/2026 18:50

MsGreying · 28/06/2026 18:44

Starlink?

PP said that Starlink cannot be seen during the day. That makes sense to me, but I don't know that for sure. I've only ever seen the satellites in the early evening, just after dusk.

I have read, though, that the UK is one of the best places in the world to see Starlink, something to do with where they are after they have been launched, but before they spread out, combined with the latitude of the UK.

I know but at least they looked and sounded like planes. I used to work directly under a military air show. Some of those things was seriously scary at the time. That triangular on̈e that just stopped in mid flight. It kept dive bombing next to the office.

Shudder.

I think I remember you could not hear it coming but it was noisy when it was overhead. Can't think of it's name.

This sounds very much like something over my house earlier this year. I only went outside as the dog started barking (she hardly ever does at night) but I wouldn’t hear it when we went outside. The size and very slow speed properly freaked me out.

I've been hoping someone else might have seen something similar. I'm in South Wales, are you?

As long as they weren’t yellow and hanging in the air in exactly the way that bricks don’t.

How do you know how high they are if you don't know how big they are or how far away they are?

In that case it sounds like drones. You could look up Drone Show on You Tube. Incredible displays.

Are you anywhere between bedford and Lincs? It was the flight festival at Shuttleworth today and the Tornadoes were there. But they are normally on flight radar. No idea how many went to the show.
