To think that these are likely stolen goods?

Browsing Vinted this morning, saw a BNWT shirt I liked, looked at seller's other items as they had bundle discounts on. Every single item (200+) is BNWT from M&S, most current season (I was in the store this morning and I recognised several items). Not outlet, not seconds. Prices around half RRP.

I'm not going to buy from them but it's got me wondering if there could be a legitimate explanation for where all the stock has come from, because my immediate thought was to wonder if it had been shoplifted.

YABU: there are legitimate explanations
YANBU: the likeliest explanation is that it's been stolen

I'd be tempted to send a link to m and s.

Grass 😂

Thank you for the insights from the pro sellers. I'm sure you're doing just fine and don't need feedback but my naturally suspicious nature means I won't buy from sellers with a lot of BNWT stock. I might if there was a note in the seller profile about it being legitimately sourced customer returns (and I do realise that someone could fake this...).

I can't imagine being this moral 😂😂

I know someone who is shocking at ordering online and forgetting the return deadline. So she sells on Vinted in an attempt to recoup some of the cost.
So there are legitimate reasons, as well as illegitimate ones.

Yep DBro has ADHD and the combination of impulsiveness and poor organisation means he often has an absolute shitload of BNWT stuff to sell because he has missed the returns window for it. Often still in the unopened packaging. Not current stock though, DM boxes it all up every 6 months and sells it for him. Definitely still sold at a loss as he’s paid full price for it.

Yes it is phenomenally wasteful, but that is the difference between him having ADHD and me just being a bit of a disorganised procrastinator - I sort myself out eventually, he genuinely can’t.

I’m astonished people buy from Vinted. You have absolutely no idea where the stuff comes from and you have no idea where it’s stored etc. Mind you, I don’t have any interest in fashion and have a small amount of basic clothes that didn’t cost much. I have a tshirt on today that I bought 8 years ago. Cost per wear works out to about 1p.

Homeless bag lady chic isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time

ToffeeCrabApple · 26/06/2026 00:02

Vinted is full of stolen & fake stuff & does very little about it.

Would anyone be prepared to recommend any of the warehouses they use please? I am currently looking at reselling (I NEED to get out of my job) but don't want to get stung.

LoveHearts69 · 26/06/2026 07:53

Could it be that they work there and get staff sales? I don’t know if that’s legal to then sell on however…

I'm trying to find the one in Manchester that the car boot man referred to, but it's proving difficult just googling and I'm going round in circles. I'm going to ask him on Sunday but he might well refuse to tell me. I've joined Resellers UK on Facebook and there are lots of helpful posts on there.

They are a 'pro' seller - do Vinted check these at all?

Vinted don't care one jot - they get their cut. There is no way to report these accounts properly.

HortiGal · 26/06/2026 08:35

@ToffeeCrabApple I agree but all the virtual signallers on here love to scoff at anyone spending on clothes and think they’re such environmentally aware goody two shoes cos they only buy from Vinted, it’s laughable.

rwalker · 26/06/2026 08:38

There’s a stall on our local market that sells m+s and next stuff they also sell on Vinted

ChipswithMayonnaise · 26/06/2026 08:42

Enterprising. Give them 200 to 500 years, and they could rise from swindler through merchant to baron or royalty.

Thanks, I'll find the FB page. I have to do something about my work situation. I don't hate it but the pressure is just too much.

PersephoneParlormaid · 26/06/2026 08:54

I was in an M&S changing room recently. Kids dept is upstairs but I was downstairs in the ladies section. The changing booth I went in had multiple kids hangers hung up and on the floor, so I’m assuming those clothes were stolen.
They need to go back to managing changing rooms but they won’t, it’s obviously cheaper to take the hit of stealing rather than paying for a member of staff to stand there, and of course the honest customer takes the hit in the price.

Nichelette · 26/06/2026 19:31

Expect most likely stolen. I'm in a kids clothes vinted group on Facebook and there is someone who would constantly advertise new with tags George stuff. I was annoyed they kept letting them post in the group tbh as was all most likely stolen and didn't sit right with me.

I'm a pro seller you have to submit all ID and HMRC tax details to open a pro account. They are likely a reseller with good links to stock buying.

Don't want to derail but I bought some trousers last week from a pro seller. Advertised as W36 L36 they arrived and were W40 L26. Not ideal for my tall son. I asked for a return and I am being expected to fund the postage! Can I refuse??

Hi, so personally I would refund the postage if I made a mistake but not all sellers will. When you request a return the seller has the option to pay or make you pay and they have obviously selected the latter which is shady imo!

Report them using the goods not as described route and they have to pay postage. That's a VERY odd size tho, I can't imagine anyone had that inside leg, unless they are a cropped trouser or jogger

I think they are cropped, again, not in description, but would have accepted that had waist not been 5" too big
