AIBU to refuse my neighbour asking to share my car repair booking?

Currently have a mobile car body shop repair man on drive. I asked him if he wanted to rearrange due to heat and he replied with ‘if it’s ok I’ll come early and put a tent/shade up, crack on and be gone before heat kicks in.’
great, happy with this. Told my neighbour, just in case she was disturbed and she was fine with it.

Roll on this morning and the guy arrives 7.30 to set up, he’s actually really quiet. Neighbour pops out walking dog and says to him
’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’
it is an all day job I was booked for, but he’s started at 7.30 instead of 9.30 and aims to be finished by 2.30 instead of 4.30.
I’ve just had 3 WhatsApp messages to ask me if I can get repair man to agree and that it’s only fair due to her being disturbed very early this morning. I’m literally agog!

Wow. That would piss me off. How dare she be so rude to someone you have invited to your property.

Stupid cow 😂

My thoughts exactly!

anyolddinosaur · 24/06/2026 14:35

If she goes off on one again say he did a good job so I'm afraid if you did want to employ him another day he may be too booked up to fit you in.

murasaki · 24/06/2026 14:44

Wow, she is so rude. I bet he's very glad he said no.

Thisthreadhasbeendeleted · 24/06/2026 14:46

Ah, so she's a dick AND a cheeky fucker. Does she have form, OP?

OutOfApricots · 24/06/2026 14:48

Can't be all that much wrong with her car if she's driven off in it. 😂

itwasyourshowallalong · 24/06/2026 14:50

She’s done you a massive favour by revealing exactly how big a dick she is

Triskellion75 · 24/06/2026 14:50

Fucking hell, she sounds deranged.

Update: 14.10

I went out to give him a cold drink, he’s nearly finished.

I got no further response from last message I sent stating he wasn’t keen.

As I was taking glass from him she’s popped out and stated ‘and here’s me thinking there’s a cost of living crisis and here you are turning work down’ got in her car and drove off.

To which hopefully the mechanic said ‘and here’s me thinking you can fuck off and get your car done by someone else!’

zobeit · 24/06/2026 14:56

She wanted to piggyback your booking, use your drive, ignore the conditions he’s working in, selfishly and persistently have you arrange something for her rather than ask herself and then insulted him?
She’s something else isn’t she?
When she needs a favour make yourself scarce.

chirrupybird · 24/06/2026 14:57

Tell her you don't employ him and cannot tell him what to do. He came early specifically so he can leave early, he will have done his allotted hours.

murasaki · 24/06/2026 14:59

I can totally see why he didn't want to spend longer in a sweatbox of a tent than he'd already agreed to. Especially for a rude baggage who you can bet wouldn't have brought him a cold drink. And on the OP's drive.

She's clearly an entitled nightmare, and it would be mean of me to hope the aircon in her car breaks down....

Skybluepinky · 24/06/2026 15:03

I’m sure she can ask the man if she wants, not for you to get involved.

Musicaltheatremum · 24/06/2026 15:03

@whoahokeycokey but the poor guy has been working since 7.30 so he's done a full days work by the time of your update. She'san idiot.

She’s been mostly ok, borrowed the odd thing, returned with thanks etc… just been chatting to another neighbour who wandered down and wanted repair man’s details. Gladly passed over.

Repair man said he was sorry he couldn’t do it but he’s rammed, but he didn’t want it to be awkward as apparently this happens a lot 😱

After that message if she had the nerve to speak to you again I would tell her that you did not appreciate her rudeness or entitlement towards your visitor. I would probably block her as well but I'm a bitch with zero tolerance for that kind of nonsense.

As someone who is self employed I do enjoy watching the confusion of people like this who seem to think I must be desperate for scraps of work at the drop of hat and enjoy turning them down or pointing out I have a long waiting list so they're aware they are not doing me any favours.

I thought so. This must happen a lot for him, neighbours asking him to check their cars when he’s fully booked with other cars afterwards.

Tableforjoan · 24/06/2026 15:07

Women needs to do what everyone else does and just book in her own Bloody work. Cheeky fucker.

We had the boiler man out Ironicly today. Told him I hoped his next job was a trip to the pub for a cold drink.

murasaki · 24/06/2026 15:08

I hope the repair man is home soon with a cold beer and an ice cream. He's put in a shift in very hot weather, including being harangued by a nutter (not the OP, who sounds perfectly nice).

Arlanymor · 24/06/2026 11:10

I don't see what it's got to do with you - it's his choice to make. What did he say when she said to him: ’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’ Presumably he either said yes or no? If he said yes, then leave them to it and if she messages you again just tell her to communicate with him directly. If he said no, then remind her that he said he no. That's it.

It's the OP's drive. Of course it's her business.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 24/06/2026 15:34

Some neighbours turn into loons when they notice renovations. I had my kitchen replaced, neighbours kept interrupting the workers to discuss kitchens, cost etc, could they pop into theirs for a quote when fitters don’t know what it cost, it’s society today, everyone wants a piece of what’s happening.

toohotforallthis · 24/06/2026 15:39

It’s not up to you, it’s up to him whether he wants to

murasaki · 24/06/2026 15:47

To be fair I did speak to the neighbour's guttering people when the were fixing hers, they were HA, we're private rental, but hers was affecting ours, and I did check with her that it was OK. Not that they did anything to ours, but just made sure hers was better on our side, everyone happy. I would never have spoken to them without speaking to her and she'd agreed hers was the issue so we were on the same page from her booking them in. We showed them together. But then we get on as she's not a lunatic.

tartyflette · 24/06/2026 15:48

And he has declined. Several posts ago.

BlindSpotForCats · 24/06/2026 16:01

Oh some neighbours are total wankers.

A couple years ago we had a tree surgeon in for a few hours and our neighbour asked if he could lop off a bit of something in the neighbour's garden when he was done. He could, and did. And sent neighbour the bill for the work. Our neighbour was apoplectic as 'he was here anyway... it did not take long, couldn't we either suggest it was no trouble or add it to our bill'.

Fuck Off.

The decision was the mechanics, he made the decision, was clear about it and your neighbour is a CF, OP.
