To think going to Thorpe Park this Wednesday is madness?

That’s it really. A friend is still planning to go and I think they’re mad 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you have to go with her?

File this under “not my circus, not my monkeys”.

ChirpyTealFox · 22/06/2026 15:02

I think they may regret their life choices. Standing around most of the day in that heat! Sod that

Waitingfordoggo · 22/06/2026 15:05

Absolutely bonkers. I went a few years ago in similarish temps in school hols and it was just utterly rancid. Hate theme parks at the best of times and that was not the best of times. At least it’s not the school hols I guess. But no, I wouldn’t go. Everyone will be wanting to spend the whole day on the log flume.

Ablondiebutagoody · 22/06/2026 15:13

It will probably put off a load of people without much backbone and be quieter than it otherwise would be. I would go and take water and a hat.

SwankyPants · 22/06/2026 15:24

The rides are really really temperamental in extreme heat, so lots of them will go down.
There's very little shade. People who went during the last heatwave said it was horrendous.
Thorpe Park are offering people to exchange their tickets for another date so might be worth them reconsidering.

AnnaBelIa · 22/06/2026 15:28

Make sure you tell them to stay hydrated. I'd be worried about heatstroke as when you get wet from those rides, it's very easy to walk around and not realise how overheated you are!

beccahamlet · 22/06/2026 15:29

Yes. Bonkers

supercalifragilistic123 · 22/06/2026 15:31

Madness! The rides don't work properly in extreme heat.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 22/06/2026 15:33

Can’t imagine anything worse. We were at Disneyland Paris last week and I’m so glad we’re not there now! Everyone on the Disney forums saying the heat is unbearable and a lot of the rides and shows aren’t running. So I imagine other theme parks will be the same.

thelongesday · 22/06/2026 15:38

Rides are always shutting for one reason or another anyway, in that heat it's bound to be even more the case.
I just don't think it would be much fun.

purplecorkheart · 22/06/2026 15:39

Wouldn't be my choice but not my business either.

Waitingfordoggo · 22/06/2026 15:44

As well as rides potentially shutting, there is hardly any grass there IIRC, everywhere is tarmac/paved which somehow feels hotter than being somewhere with grass.

Fallbuy · 22/06/2026 15:54

Have you see that drawing from Dante’s Inferno depicting the various levels of hell? It’ll be like that, only more expensive.

watchfulmockery · 22/06/2026 16:23

Of course it’s none of my business but I’m allowed to have an opinion
I hadn’t even thought about the rides not working properly

This happened last time, just over half an hour stuck

Oh God @SwankyPants, horrendous 😫

Apart from the height etc, imagine being like that in full sun with no shade 🙈😭

TubeScreamer · 22/06/2026 18:06

Madness

Do theme parks in Florida, Paris, Australia etc shut down in the heat?

I've just got back from Blackpool pleasure Beach..... around 1pm I texted my friend saying 'I am currently regretting my life choices .....' am now sat on the sofa under a ceiling fan wondering if the house elves will make tea and bring me a massive cold drink.....

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 22/06/2026 18:17

Yeah I’d hate it but I’m Scottish (skin tone: blue) and can’t cope with heat anyway.

maybe she is thinking lots of people will swerve it and so they will get on lots more rides?

the idea of getting stuck like that photo is absolutely hellish.

GreatOffWhiteFalcon · 22/06/2026 18:17

Sounds horrendous but perhaps the park will be emptier than usual.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 22/06/2026 18:19

Re the heat. So glad I’m up North. It’s a pleasant if cloudy 18c right now. Perfectly fine for an evening walk.

I honestly don’t think I could cope with trying to walk/work/travel in the temps said to be down south. Never mind trailing round an asphalt theme park in blazing sun.

Who cares? OP is asking about Thorpe Park, who can and do close rides during very hot weather. There is a very significant chance this will happen there on Wednesday, given the previous instances of this at that location.

Randomchat · 22/06/2026 18:22

Ds's school are going on a trip from Glasgow to Alton Towers tomorrow. Leaving at 2am tonight. I'm going on and on about drinking water but he's not listening.
