To think going to Thorpe Park this Wednesday is madness?

That’s it really. A friend is still planning to go and I think they’re mad 🤷🏻‍♀️

Each to their own, I totally agree with you op …. madness on so many levels

Striveforcompetence · 22/06/2026 18:24

My kid has a school trip to Blackpool pleasure beach on Wednesday. We’re in Scotland - will it really be that bad?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/06/2026 18:26

GreatOffWhiteFalcon · 22/06/2026 18:17

Sounds horrendous but perhaps the park will be emptier than usual.

With the numbers saying they're not sending their children into school? It'll be even more crowded than usual.

Do theme parks in Florida, Paris, Australia etc shut down in the heat?

They do, actually. Rides get closed for safety and where things are open, it's because they've spent millions on misters, air conditioned indoors areas and still people often avoid the middle of the day.

A queue at 10am here will still be filtering in at 11.30am, just in time to join 90 minute long queues in direct sunlight on concrete.

Forecast for Blackpool is 26 degrees, if that's correct it shouldn't be bad at all. How are they getting there - assume air-conditioned coach?

Edited

Disney Paris has had multiple ride closures in the past few days

susiedaisy1912 · 22/06/2026 18:29

Some of the rides will probably be closed by midday because of the heat.

Have you see that drawing from Dante’s Inferno depicting the various levels of hell? It’ll be like that, only more expensive.

This is why we need the laughing emoji

Yes, coach leaves Glasgow area at about 7am and is meant to head back at about 5pm.
I’m just hoping they don’t have a terrible day!

BettyTheGreat · 22/06/2026 18:46

Sounds like my personal hell, but I don't like Thorpe Park at the best of times tbh!

Obviously nobody's business but your friend's, but I would never. Some people don't mind the heat so much, so maybe your friend just copes better with it

Allseeingallknowing · 22/06/2026 18:48

Nightmare!

Pistachiocake · 22/06/2026 18:52

If she's an adult, her business.
Unless she is taking preschool age children (presumably any older ones are in school) and you're worried about them?

scalt · 22/06/2026 19:04

I think we need a separate topic for this. It’s like 2020
again. Granny will die if anyone dares to do anything other than cower at home.

Oh yeah that's true. Heck!

Pistacheeo · 22/06/2026 19:12

As much as I like the heat I would not want to be in a concrete theme park under a red warning.

Even central London would be nicer as there's shade, galleries, parks and air con.

I'd be more worried about traffic than heat to be honest.

It will probably put off a load of people without much backbone and be quieter than it otherwise would be. I would go and take water and a hat.

Oh you’re so cool and brave

scalt · 22/06/2026 19:36

Incidentally, there’s now 72% chance of rain this evening, in north London! Some Moansnetters will be green with envy.

ZenNudist · 22/06/2026 19:44

People spend thousands on a "holiday of a lifetime " to stand in a theme park in the red hot and sticky temperatures of disneyworld florida so it'll probably be fine.

Rain started a little while ago, now thunder. 28 degrees still but feels cool and comfortable.
In High Wycombe a little west of London.
36 expected tomorrow.

watchfulmockery · 22/06/2026 20:35

They’re going on their own. I am a little concerned tbh. Just seems silly as they can change their ticket for a different date

Madness! The rides don't work properly in extreme heat.

i’ve been to theme parks in Dubai, they work perfectly well. I’ve also been to Disney World in July - no problems there.

VivienneDelacroix · 23/06/2026 00:01

Disneyland Paris shut all outdoor rides today. I think companies were taking heat much more seriously now (as they should). In the 40 degree heatwave in 2022 my son was supposed to be on a school trip to Chessington, the head was going to go ahead with the trip, until a large number of parents voiced how ridiculous it would be. Chessington was open that day, but I think there is much more awareness of the heat now and some attractions may well close on Wednesday.

Equimum · 23/06/2026 00:03

I no personally wouldn't, but do we question people going to Florida to do exactly the same? People queue in extreme temperatures there and nobody questions it!

Yes. Sorry, but you couldn't pay me enough to do it!
