I got to my early 40s without ever needing to claim but circumstances find me single and paying the lions share of child related outgoings.

I work full time on£31,000 and have found out this year thanks to applying that I get on average about £800 from UC. It has been an absolute life changer and will hopefully be able to afford a modest uk holiday actually during the summer holidays and pay the school back some debt im in for after school care.

So many benefits bashing threads so I just wanted to present another side that as a cash strapped mum of two who works full time, UC is making a positive difference to our life. I didn't even think id qualify!

I'm unaware of your situation and why you claim UC; however, it's abundantly clear you support the misappropriation of money for those who receive an essential living allowance funded by hardworking people who pay taxes.

It's no surprise the country is desperate to have Reform running the government. Maybe the proposed mandatory reassessments are needed after all.

Morally why does anyone have the inherent right to live of someone else? That's what it is.

You're legally entitled to and living off the hard work and the labours of another, whether they agree to it or not.

Again, there are no rules about what UC can and can not be spent on.

She makes a good point. It obviously all depends on the level and state of the disability. Someone battling cancer will obviously be out of work and struggling. People with a degenerative disorder can't work, someone with MND can't work at all.

And according to both of you, they should be paid in vouchers, not able to have treats or even the ability to save a little for a emergencies.

with vouchers you end up with a black market and the vouchers will be a ripoff gravy train for the company administering them. And you wouldn’t necessarily be able to spend them where you like and in the most efficient way.

It depends on what your other outgoings are. Some people budget well and/or have low costs.

People on benefits are allowed autonomy over their finances.

It’s not easy, that’s why the system isn’t used. Not everywhere would accept them as it would cost them admin so for example you could not use them in the most economical way.

If the birth rate falls drastically because people aren't allowed to give birth unless they're earning top salaries who's going to be working to fund your pension in the future?
OP is a nurse! A perfectly honorable and acceptable career choice. A calling even. It's not her fault the government can't pay that role the salary it deserves.
What if you've applied for those high salary jobs but haven't made the cut?
What if you're introverted and shy and are unable to climb the career ladder and as a result you end up on a lower scale income long term despite your best efforts?
Are you seriously saying that all those people should actually be barred from being allowed to bring children in to this world?
