When you are on your knees with busyness and someone starts on you with "I'm just sooooo busy" and you know actually they're definitely less busy

Is it unreasonable to despise them in that moment?

😕

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/06/2026 22:38

Maybe they don’t cope with things as well as you do. And as busy as you are there’s always someone else busier. When I’ve been you in this scenario I haven’t despised them. Sorry you’re having a hard time.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 19/06/2026 22:39

What about people too busy to post on here?

Lammveg · 19/06/2026 22:40

Peak mumsnet

Cooshawn · 19/06/2026 22:42

People who make being so busy their personality are so fucking tedious.

Is isnt a competition.

LilacDrift · 19/06/2026 22:44

I'm busy loafing about on the sofa. It's hard work lifting this glass and flicking through the remote.

PenelopeJoanSterling · 19/06/2026 22:45

as with anything it dpends on what people mean and how they define the words they use, like with many things what means one is another to someone else

Gettingaggy · 19/06/2026 22:46

I fucking despise people who turn busy-ness into a competition. Or who think being busy is their whole personality.

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/06/2026 22:47

Wonder if OP is too busy to come back.

LilacDrift · 19/06/2026 22:48

Too busy starting goady threads on the internet.

gotmyselfintoapickle · 19/06/2026 22:48

My retired mum is apparently very busy - I just smile. Busyness is relative.

That's fine, they win

GoodbyeZebedee · 20/06/2026 01:00

there’s someone busier than you thinking that about you

PinkyFlamingo · 20/06/2026 01:01

Who do you despise?

No there isn't because I never complain about being busy I just silently judge people who think one task is busy

OP posts:
crunchycrackers · 20/06/2026 01:06

Ignore them. They will just take up more of your time you can’t spare.

Awhimoway · 20/06/2026 01:08

This thread is not a complaint

CamillaMcCauley · 20/06/2026 01:11

Maybe just take some things off your plate if being the busiest person around makes you so tetchy.

XenoBitch · 20/06/2026 01:12

Is there a busyness rating? Like Top Trumps?

Houseofdrums · 20/06/2026 01:55

My friend this this the other day. She told me that she was upset with me for not being in touch for 2 weeks or so, she knew I was busy, but she thought I was ignoring her. Sent as a VN

Then I replied, because I can be busy but I never just say I’m busy, I will say what’s going on, and in that time my child had surgery. So I was busy with that - which is a different kind of busy but the kind of busy that takes up all of your strength and brain space.

So whilst she was busy being typical busy that we all tend to be, especially when juggling lots. I wasn’t actually busy, as I took time off work, but I was occupied.

I think we have to acknowledge that everyone is busy in their own way - unless they tell you they are so bored and need something to do,

THisbackwithavengeance · 20/06/2026 13:28

I actually agree OP. Particularly when your busy is actually non stop FT work/ childcare/ household chores/admin and then someone who’s a SAHM to teenagers will pipe up about their ultra tiring and busy day which is all hobby and lifestyle related activities like walking their dog.

minipie · 20/06/2026 13:42

“They win”??

Surely the person winning is the one managing to have a nice life without feeling insanely busy.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 20/06/2026 13:45

Lol I couldn't give a shit how busy someone else is compared to me.

It doesn't make me any less busy and I stopped playing top trumps when I left primary school.

I work 50-60 hours a week and have two primary dc so the full house to manage and schedules and clubs. My work is such that you are expected to respond all days, all the time I typically have shout 15 projects on the go at once.

And my neighbour tells me about how busy she is because she has to finish a novel AND pop to have a mooch round John Lewis before yoga today.

havingoneofthosedays · 20/06/2026 13:48

Are you describing my work colleagues 🤣
