Loud, entitled families at the beach

Aibu to think they are so self absorbed. 5 windbreakers, take over so much space and then play loud ball games, screaching. Performative parenting at it's worst. Just so feckin rude. No wonder their kids are spoilt brats.

Stop whinging and go enjoy your day. Maybe have an ice cream to cool you down.

Dizzydrizzy · 24/05/2026 12:55

Meh just enjoy your day.

Myself and the rest of the beach were loving it til these lot rocked up. I know it's not just me thinking it, been quite a few annoyed looks.

I wouldn't consider that performative parenting - maybe inconsiderate use of a public space. But that's the issue with a public space - it's full of the public. Ask me why I never really go to the cinema anymore! A big telly with good speakers in my own home is much, much better.

I live very close to a beach - thankfully it's very long so I can move if people piss me off. Families don't usually bother me - idiots with boomboxes often do and people smoking stinking weed - kids are always going to scream and lark about on the beach to be fair. Also I wouldn't be outside right now - it's the hottest part of the day - definitely time to be in the pub with a large glass of something cold.

ALotofThingsBeataJet2HolidayActually · 24/05/2026 13:30

Do you know what performative parenting is? Because that isn't it. They sound annoying though.

But you're annoying too, ignoring your own family when you're at the beach so you can whine on Mumsnet about it while not doing anything to improve the experience for your kids.

Oh, and don't say "myself" when you mean "I".

MyArtfulGreySloth · 24/05/2026 13:42

I get it op. There will be an entire beach of free space and one of these families will decide to set up right next to us. I don’t want your bloody ball smashing into my stuff thanks! And don’t even get me started on the ones who think everyone wants to pet their bloody dog.

FirstdatesFred · 24/05/2026 13:45

I do know what you mean, but like others about it’s the people imposing their loud music and weed aromas on everyone else that annoys me more!

Pootles34 · 24/05/2026 13:46

Mm no the beach on a bank holiday is not going to be quiet, sorry!

Nofeckingway · 24/05/2026 13:48

Hell is other people.

crossedlines · 24/05/2026 13:49

@Tuxedomaddness i hope it’s not as hot where you are as where i am because frankly the last place id want to be is the beach in a heatwave. But I imagine if it’s a busy beach it’s pretty hot?

It doesn’t sound like performative parenting so much as inconsiderate twats! Being loud in public is really annoying, as is doing anything which encroaches on others’ space. If it’s a busy beach and they’re doing ball games, it’s probably only a matter of time before the ball hits someone. A friend was hit sharply on the thigh by someone’s frisbee once when we were sitting on the beach and she didn’t hold back!

Hell is other people.

Exactly.

OonaStubbs · 24/05/2026 13:50

People are far too noisy in general nowadays. I was always raised to believe that silence is golden.

I’m looking at a huge stretch of sandy beach and it’s deserted!

neverbeenskiing · 24/05/2026 13:52

Some people are inconsiderate. But I think that if your someone who has a low tolerance for people being noisy and taking up space then probably best to avoid beaches on bank holiday weekends.

labradorservant · 24/05/2026 13:55

A family at the beach enjoying themselves. Off their phones..maybe you should have gone to the library..

NotTheOrdinary · 24/05/2026 13:59

Sounds like one of our family beach days 🤣

TheChosenTwo · 24/05/2026 13:59

Urgh. For that reason dh and I got up early and went to the beach for a swim and were home again by 9am, we are 45 minutes away from the beach!
People are entitled to enjoy the beach of course they are, but I’m enjoying the peace and quiet from my back garden. We’ve dropped the temperature in the hot tub so it’s now a cold tub, if I need to cool down I have a little 10 minute dip, get out back to the sunlounger and listen to a podcast very quietly. It’s heaven and I never appreciate having a garden more than when the weather is lovely so I don’t have to suffer abrasive people!

KnittyKnotty · 24/05/2026 14:06

Does the Dad have one of those Southern accents that carries 3 miles out to sea?

I always seem to end up with that kind.

crossedlines · 24/05/2026 14:08

5 windbreaks. Not much of a breeze today…
perhaps it’s privacy for changing. Are they very large?! 😂

ThejoyofNC · 24/05/2026 14:10

God forbid someone crack a fucking smile.

Liberancho · 24/05/2026 14:14

Posts like the OP are almost certainly made by people who resent others using their own gardens too. All that noise of people enjoying themselves and BBQ smells..!

God forbid people should enjoy some rare good weather on the beach 🙄

VintageLane · 24/05/2026 14:15

ThejoyofNC · 24/05/2026 14:10

How puerile.

No-one is going to object to people smiling. It’s inconsiderate fuckwits that don’t give a shit about other people in terms of their noise who ruin it for everyone else.

sprigatito · 24/05/2026 14:17

This is performatively churlish of you, OP. Far more irritating than families enjoying themselves at the beach in warm weather, as they have been doing for centuries.

If you want peace and quiet don't go to a busy beach on a hot bank holiday weekend.

PeoniesAreMyFavouriteFlowers · 24/05/2026 14:30

I thought beaches were perfect for ball games? Screeching with happiness etc. It’s not a library.
