Loud, entitled families at the beach

Aibu to think they are so self absorbed. 5 windbreakers, take over so much space and then play loud ball games, screaching. Performative parenting at it's worst. Just so feckin rude. No wonder their kids are spoilt brats.

Just sounds like they are enjoying themselves, get over yourself.

Greenwitchart · 24/05/2026 14:32

I think the kids being noisy and exited can be expected but playing loud music on a beach is not acceptable.

I never understand why people need to have loud sounds on all the time and think it is acceptable to inflict that on other people.

Thatcannotberight · 24/05/2026 14:33

I live in Cornwall. It's usually about 4 very middle class families, all holidaying together , all trying to outdo each other in the performative parenting stakes. Think Catherine Tate's posh mum, but the dads are just as bad.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 24/05/2026 14:36

It’s about territory. They’ve marked out their city state and will repel all intruders. Roll out the trebuchet!

yep, people like that are a pita.

Harriet36 · 24/05/2026 14:36

Get off your phone and go for a swim.

They were not playing loud music though.

blackbunny · 24/05/2026 14:38

You are NBU. But just move to a different part of the beach, there’s loads of it.

Galaxylights · 24/05/2026 14:41

And now we have people policing people on the beach. A beach is never going to be quiet.

I probably would hate the noise too. But I'd probably put earphones on or move away from them.

The beach is for everyone. Don't be a fun sponge. You can't control everyone around you. And I hate people making a racket but even I realise this!

There is too many people on this planet and unfortunately we have to share space!

TomatoSandwiches · 24/05/2026 14:41

I grew up along the coast and most of us residents went early or late to the beach because of the crowds and we also knew the smaller or more hidden bays that visitors were unaware of which was nice.

Unfortunately unless you own the land you have to share!

Posts like the OP are almost certainly made by people who resent others using their own gardens too. All that noise of people enjoying themselves and BBQ smells..!

God forbid people should enjoy some rare good weather on the beach 🙄

Posts like the OP are almost certainly made by people who are sick to death of others who spend their time screaming, screeching, and bawling into their phones in public with no consideration for other people. They're not even the " look at me" types because they've got no self awareness 🙄

ACIGC · 24/05/2026 14:43

Oh dear. We're going to the beach tomorrow and we are taking a windbreaker and a ball. And even a kite.

Myself and the rest of the beach were loving it til these lot rocked up. I know it's not just me thinking it, been quite a few annoyed looks.

You can always move if kids playing and enjoying the beach is a bit too much for you.

Perrygreen · 24/05/2026 14:46

It's the parents who look on as their kids lob stones into the sea, despite the beach being busy.

Sadly as they're usually accompanied by a no-neck tattooed dad and a mum with stupid lip injections I'm not keen to ask them to stop.

therockingbird · 24/05/2026 14:51

ah.. this is why I have a beach hut away from the main sands. I love seeing people having a great day out but to retreat to the hut and enjoy my own little space is priceless. We get it all the time on the main beaches, the trick is to find the next beach along which is less busy and just as enjoyable! The seaside is heaving this weekend and I absolutely love seeing everyone having a great time BUT you will always get the odd rowdy bunch who think they can have the entire beach to themselves..

LittleRobins · 24/05/2026 14:56

My noisy neighbours have gone out for the day. I can’t help but wonder if you’re talking about them?!

I live within walking distance of the beach. We locals spend holidays in our back gardens.

aintnothinbutagstring · 24/05/2026 15:01

I dont really understand - is the beach you're at very tiny? The beaches we visit often have huge church groups of 20+ people with full on gazebo/bbq/music speakers - quite nice to see communities getting together in my opinion.

And this is exactly why we avoid the beach on bank holidays. The person you're describing sounds irritating but you also sound annoying as you're unable to just soak up the beach that you're visiting!

We're fortunate enough to live in SW England and respect that we need tourism, but as we aren't directly involved in the industry we've started buggering off to remote locations in Scotland for summer holidays!

Sorry to all Scots. But you have more land, less people and more beautiful landscapes.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/05/2026 15:03

It’s a beach not a library.
When Spend time with their kids it’s performance parenting. If they have their heads buried in their phones it’s neglectful parenting. Society can’t have it both ways so pick. One

BackToLurk · 24/05/2026 15:04

Never holiday in Italy

Coffeeandbooks88 · 24/05/2026 15:05

Become a hermit then because there will be families around.

OonaStubbs · 24/05/2026 15:05

Why do some people have to make noise to enjoy themselves? Why can't they enjoy themselves quietly and peacefully?

Jaxhog · 24/05/2026 15:05

MyArtfulGreySloth · 24/05/2026 13:42

I get it op. There will be an entire beach of free space and one of these families will decide to set up right next to us. I don’t want your bloody ball smashing into my stuff thanks! And don’t even get me started on the ones who think everyone wants to pet their bloody dog.

Exactly this. Either thoughtless or deliberately annoying.

LlynTegid · 24/05/2026 15:11

We discovered in 2020 to an extent and 2021 how many of those people there are in the UK. Previously most of their annoying behaviour had been exported to Spanish holiday resorts.

Not sure there is much you can do about this though, other than choose to visit a beach outside school holidays where this will be less likely.

Never holiday in Italy

Or Spain
