London still the greatest

There pop up quite a few is London safe threads on here, but I just wanted to say something positive about it.

Spent the weekend there with my husband, and 5, 8 and 11 year old.

Great hotel, great show, great shops, great food, it still takes some beating!

I love London.

Tell us where you went though op, your post is too vague.

I mean I was central, west end area - I mean I am not suggesting a weekend break down the seven sisters road!

London is one of the greatest cities in the world.
I’m not a born Londoner and don’t live there anymore, but , for me, there is nowhere better overall.

Paris is beautiful, Rome is historic, New York (was) like being in a movie but London has everything .

I miss living there but I get back regularly.

Its a great weekend break

Glad you had a great time OP!

I live in London and I love visitors enjoying their capital city, it’s for us all, if e choose, and I don’t see why UK residents should pay a tourist tax on visits in their country, where so many of our national institutions (museums etc) are located!

Come back soon, OP!

And I still have my little flat in Angel from my first job 16 years ago that we rent out! Does that still make me a Londoner?

I love London. I left about 13 years ago and most days I wish I hadn't.

I look back fondly on the time I lived there, but it was the right time to get out.

I am not sure I would want to live there with children, but we live in an excellent commuter town which gets you to Bond Street in 35 minutes.

Big fan of London here & I've been to many cities. We recently stayed in the Brick Lane area & really enjoyed it. We try & stay in different areas each time we go so we see/do something new. Next trip will be Highgate area with hopefully a tour of the cemetery.

EstrellaPolar · 05/05/2026 09:33

I left over 5 years ago but think of it most days. I loved it and could imagine my future there - it’s such a fantastic city!

coulditbeme2323 · 05/05/2026 09:36

I think probably the best food in the world as well.

I'm glad I experienced living in London, but I left 12 years ago and now adore being Up North in Yorkshire.

Different strokes for different folks!

Dweetfidilove · 05/05/2026 09:41

London is fabulous! Been out and about a lot recently, and it's wonderdul watching folks enjoy my city 😊.

Norugratsatall · 05/05/2026 09:42

It’s my favourite place in the world, could never live too far from it. Going there today actually, meeting a friend and seeing an art exhibition.

Davros · 05/05/2026 09:44

It’s my lifelong home (I’m 66!) and I love it every day. I have a problem because I have to stop myself booking too many tickets for events or arranging too many activities. I tend to book and think about the logistics later but it usually works out

Ohh do you mind saying which one you are seeing?

I looove London . Miss working there. I don’t agree re tourist tax… it’s expensive enough already.
I have been many many times but always find something new. You can’t beat standing outside an old London pub with a pint!

RedTreeLeaf · 05/05/2026 09:47

I love London! I was there for the day yesterday, Tate Modern, then travelled to Peckham for a stop in a wine bar, then a delicious Malaysian meal, lastly a gig. We moved out 21 years ago but live in a nearby town and enjoy going back.

This is the only thing I disagree with. Perhaps the best variety of food in the world, for sure! But not all restaurants are as authentic as they market themselves to be - many are, but others pale in comparison to their counterparts in whatever country they are “representing”. This could well be due to the ingredients available, though…

The variety is fabulous, but taste is so much better in other places.

Nitgel · 05/05/2026 09:04

Its a great place though we need a tourist tax.

We need to make like many other nations and keep museums free for UK citizens, but charge overseas tourists.

LovesLabradors · 05/05/2026 09:50

I love London too OP! It's a fantastic city and although I used to moan about the commute, I loved working there.

I live on the commuter belt now, but still regularly go in. Was there this weekend for a night out - had a brilliant time!

DataColour · 05/05/2026 09:51

Been to lots of capital cities in Europe and London is the best. It literally does have everything. I lived there during secondary school years, Uni and first job and I still miss living there. Do go back when I can as it's only 2 hrs away by train and still have friends there. I love visiting with teenage DD now. I'm always excited to be there, even on my own.
