Would you go to Turkey this Summer?

We are looking to book a holiday this July/Aug. We usually stay in Europe and go to one of the Greek Islands/Majorca.

Looking at Turkey it’s very cheap for an all inclusive. As much as half the price of a similar hotel in Greece/Spain. Obviously we’d be going to somewhere like Boston/Antalya.

Would you go? My concerns are the current situation with the war, and also the extreme heat.

Yanbu - it’s a brilliant place
Yabu - I wouldn’t go

We went last year in August- the spot we stayed at it was around 32° most days but there was a breeze from the sea that kept it nice, I never really felt too hot. We’ve booked to go back this year as we absolutely loved the resort we stayed at. I’d be more concerned about flights going ahead than getting caught up in conflict, several friends have been there over Easter and had a great time.

What was your experience?

Honestly, so dreadful you wouldn’t believe it - even close friends look at me strangely when I tell them! Never again!

Savvysix1984 · Yesterday 08:24

I love turkey (Dalyan/ feitheye/ Sarigerme) and have gone in the summer the past few years. Dh refused to go this year as last year was too hot for him and we couldn’t sit outside to eat even at 9pm. So we’d decided not to go even before the war. With the war I’ve discounted turkey/ Greek islands and Cyprus. Booked Italy instead.

We are going to Antalya mid Aug, to the Titanic (3rd time) Saturn Palace and Elite Adalya are also good options there IMO

I wouldn’t go to Turkey for a holiday but not because of the conflict.

Me too. I’m a dentist. I’d be totally distracted. Not a relaxing environment.

We’ve never experienced it anywhere else in the world. We’re well travelled.

Fluffordirt · Yesterday 08:38

No. But it’s not somewhere I’d ever consider. Way too hot and full of men who have little respect for women’s rights. That’s not what I call relaxing.

Exactly this. My friend went there with her 8 year old (blonde, typically seen as pretty) daughter and she said she didn't feel at all safe or comfortable. It's one thing going to a majority Muslim country as a blonde adult woman, it's quite another when children are also feeling the effects of this "culture".

I would go to Turkey without any worries. Highly recommend the Arum Barut or the Barut Hemera, both in Side. Great food, lovely landscaped grounds running down to the beach, and a pleasant walk along a car-free promenade to the old centre of Side with its spectacular ancient ruins.

Possibly they're not quite as polished as five or six star resorts in some more premium destinations, but they're half the price while being really lovely 4.5 star standard with pleasant friendly staff, and for me that makes for a much better holiday than a stuffy five star with stiff service. And they're streets ahead of the standard of a more expensive three or four star hotel in Spain or Greece or allegedly "five star" places I've visited in Egypt.

I went at the beginning of April and will be going again in September. I felt extremely safe

JaceLancs · Yesterday 09:39

I have already booked Dalyan for September - no worries other than will it get cancelled due to fuel prices - going back to same family run hotel - love it!

You get much more for your money in Turkey! Stick with the Aeagen coastline part if you are worried - Kudasahi of something its called.

Kusadasi. It's lovely.

Currently sunbathing in a 5* resort on Lara Beach. We have been coming here every year since 2022 and love it. Take a look at Concorde Deluxe Resort @Holidaydecisions123 it's a beautiful resort and pure luxury 😍

DionysusIsSober · Yesterday 10:41

We went to Antalya in the Easter Hols. Honestly we felt safe and no issues. And we didn't do the AI beach holiday.

I think it's in their intrest to keep tourist places safe. So as long as you follow common sense and FO advice you should be fine. But think twice about the heat in August.

InLoveWithAI · Yesterday 13:31

I've been twice this year, side and marmaris as a lone woman. I feel safer in Turkey than I do here walking around.

There is a lot of outdated stereotyping about turkey.

The conflict is thousands of miles away.

TheDehumidifierNeedsEmptying · Yesterday 13:39

Depends on who “we” is. Do you have children? I wouldn’t take children, especially a daughter.

Just adults? Go for it.

VividDeer · Yesterday 13:41

I wouldn't go because it's too hot. Glad its not just me!

Doggymummar · Yesterday 13:43

I love Turkey, side and kalkan for me. But only on May or September. It is one of the countries Iranians can travel to visa free and I was married to an Iranian so know it well.

NailsForChristmas · Yesterday 13:44

I would go to Turkey, yes. But not in August as it would be too hot for me.
We are off next week to Antalya region.

Surprisednotusedb4 · Yesterday 13:59

Holidaydecisions123 · Yesterday 08:04

It sounds like besides anything else, it will be too hot for us.

Can anyone recommend a good all inclusive though. Might consider going a different time of year.

I am worried about the fuel shortages, but if it’s a package holiday I’m presuming we’d be refunded.

What is your budget?

I went in late May and it averaged mid thirties. Staff said that mid forties in height of summer and all the tourists roast.
