Anyone else in this position? It’s driving me nuts! I just missed a few and thought I might be done. Was so happy! But just had another one! 😭

My mum and my sister didn’t hit menopause until 60. I’m 52 and they’re still pretty regular.

RandomMess · Yesterday 22:09

Are you my friend? Howdy if you are, if not sadly my friend is the same and it’s driving her crazy too.

@hoardingwealth not me but you have my sympathy. I went early (mid 40s) but my friend didn’t stop til 58,

Late menopause is a risk factor for breast cancer so be sure to get checked regularly

I’ve read also we tend to live longer. Swings and roundabouts 😂

58 and still going. Have no sign of anything slowing down or reducing. Just recently had another mirena fitted, very frustrating...

Everything is a bloody risk factor for some kind of cancer. To the point that I'm considering not caring at all and what will be will be!

runningonberocca · Yesterday 22:16

Nearly 52 and still regular. Just heavier than it used to be and the flooding is horrific. Really hope they just stop. I’m dismayed at the thought I might be still having them in 5 yrs time.

If you’re having the awful flooding - might be worth looking at an endometrial resection or ablation. It’s life changing - would highly recommend

Easier said than done unless you pay privately.

I'm 57 this year and just recently hit the one year milestone of no periods! I'd got to the stage where I thought they would never end. It's one thing to deal with periods for decades but I think once you hit 50s you're just desperately waiting for them to end. Mine got horrendously painful and heavy the last couple of years too. So don't give up hope! Hopefully they will finish for you soon.

@runningonberocca i had the mirena coil to stop this in peri menopause. No periods for 3 years and they stopped naturally. I'm now 57 and post menopausal for past 4 years

On the other hand, it lowers your risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis, possibly alzheimers too, and likely increases longevity.

EmeraldRoulette · Yesterday 22:56

It's the same in my family

just drags on and on. Dreadful. I want my Fleabag Kristin Scott Thomas moment. No idea how old that character was meant to be.

and I do not want the longevity that plagues my family on mum's side.

Fluffyunicorns · Yesterday 23:00

I am 57 and periods became very very heavy about 4 years ago - had a new Marina coil fitted about 2.5 years and after about 3 months they stopped. Just had another one so assume the Marina is becoming less effective. Thought I was there though 😪

@hoardingwealth
@Youdontseehowis right about increased breast cancer risk with a late menopause. I had my last period at 56 and then diagnosed with breast cancer from a routine mammogram aged 62. Last year I had surgery and radiotherapy, now taking estrogen blockers first 5 years.

LateFiesta · Yesterday 23:20

I’m 56 and haven’t had one since August when I would’ve been 55 and a half! So 🤞

Shodan · Yesterday 23:27

I think my last one was a year ago January- I'm 57 now. And the one before that was just over a year prior. I went to the doctor and everything, all annoyed and slightly fearing something was wrong. He even sent me for tests (legs akimbo at 8 am and not even in a fun way) and on the follow up visit blithely told me that one had to be TWO YEARS clear of periods before you could safely be sure they were done.

So another 8 months to go before I can definitively say yep, I'm done, apparently.

Wiseplumant · Yesterday 23:28

I had my last one at 59 , 3 years ago. Although they were few and far between after 55
I think it just takes some of us longer for the whole thing to wind down. On the plus I hardly experienced any menopausal symptoms.

Mine stopped at about 54. For a year. Th9en l went on holidays by plane and l got a period. Stopped again for a year until l went on holidays again and immediately on arrival period started. Then stopped forever!!

Topseyt123 · Yesterday 23:34

My last one was just before my 57th birthday. I'm going to be 60 this summer. I honestly was beginning to despair that they were ever going to actually stop.

I had spent most of the previous ten years battling with very heavy and flooding periods and hoping that each one would be my last.
