Why is it different for women?

I imagine, because of the gender pay gap which still exists unfortunately

Surely not.. I'm not sure I believe that!!

Of course it’s true. Just google “magic circle newly qualified salaries”. All available.

There's a London bias as well because property prices are so expensive there so £300K there buys far less than £100K elsewhere. DB lives in a modern 2 bed flat in Bethnal Green. He earns more than DH or me, and his flat is worth multiples of our house in the NE. But our lifestyle would be out of reach for him in London, we have a big house in a naice area, our kids go to good schools (not private because the state schools are excellent and the local private schools are not), we have nice foreign holidays. The most senior person at work on my site (we work for a multinational) earns less than £200K and lives round the corner from us and sends his kids to the local school. So I'd view someone on £100K as high flying and with a great lifestyle (most well paid couples both work because work life balance is better than those highly paid jobs in the SE).

It's also important to acknowledge that you can earn these salaries (250-500k) outside of London so can enjoy the benefits of cheaper property prices, etc, which helps build wealth much faster.
