Ok I know there are bigger problems in the world at the moment but,

Is this woman a huge CF?!

There are two facebook groups for our village, a ‘Freecycle’ type group ie
stuff you want rid of, no good for selling but someone could still make use of.
And, a Pet Food Bank.
Both these groups are run by the same woman.

Posts on the freecycle group will go for admin approval,

Generally what happens with the freecycle group is that people will snap things up pretty fast and they will collect them from you. I’ve given quite a few things away on there over the years to very grateful people!

With the Pet Foodbank, she emphasises that she does NOT collect items, you have to get them to her.

The other day, the owner / admin posted on the freecycle group to announce that she would no longer be approving any posts with Pet items to give away. All Pet items need to be going straight to her at the pet food bank (whether its food or other items like collars, leads etc) and she will now be declining any posts with such items.

Is she being a CF? Surely there are other people who may not need food from her, but they would still like other things for their pets?

She’s saying this and still expects you to take the items to her! I’m speechless!?

If people in the village don't want to take their stuff to her then they don't have to. They can give it away in any other way they choose. She's hardly holding a gun to anyone's head.

Dollymylove · 07/04/2026 17:38

You can advertise free stuff on market place. Cuts out the middle man

Anyahyacinth · 07/04/2026 17:41

This just feels like wanting something your way when you are doing none of the work. It reminds me of a recent thread about the PTA by non members.

The woman isn’t stopping anyone doing what they want with their stuff…she is running groups that make sense to her ..pet things together..I suspect she receives requests for items by people needing the pet food.

If you don’t want these groups not to have your unwanted stuff..don't give it / donate.

The End

Honestly, I think maybe I did not explain myself properly so I’m going to try again..

this woman runs both the local freecycle page, and the Pet food bank page. On the freecycle page, she is saying that she will no longer be approving any posts that are for giving away pet items, as she wants them brought directly to her, rather than anybody else in the village getting a chance to have them.

Edited

Am I being a little dense here? What does she do with the pet items that are given to her? or the pet food for that matter?

How does the pet food bank work?

JLou08 · 07/04/2026 17:48

I think you're being an entitled CF. If you want to carry on giving pet things set up and manage your own site/page. No ones obliged to do it for you.

iamfedupwiththis · 07/04/2026 18:51

Is there nothing else in your life to worry about?

ILoveDaffodills · 07/04/2026 18:57

Myneighbourisanosyoldgit · 07/04/2026 17:08

I would have thought that was totally obvious, in the way you've replied to other posters. You sound as if you live in the village or know the set up personally. Not that difficult to understand.
Also, up thread you called someone else rude then ask me wtaf am I on about😁

No not at all 'obvious' just a WEIRD conclusion.

& so what? They were rude💁🏻‍♀️

& you're being weird about my posts.

ILoveDaffodills · 07/04/2026 19:04

steff13 · 07/04/2026 17:17

But if someone couldn't get the items to her they would still have the option to list them for free on Facebook marketplace or something and have people come pick them up, right? I'm assuming this is a volunteer service that this woman is providing for her community, so she can set up whatever stipulation she likes. If people don't like it I suppose they could set up a rival group.

maybe??

I have tried to explain my thinking in a later post re freecycle. I used to use it years ago & the Admins were supposed to be impartial & not set those kind of rules as there was only one freecycle group for the area. So back then she'd have been removed as a freecycle admin. But I don't know if the rules have changed these days.

& not everyone uses Facebook (I don't) so effectively she'd be stopping me from donating online locally IF the rules haven't changed.

But can you have a second x village freecycle group these days? You didn't used to be able to, people were appointed Admins of the group Freecycle set up for that area.

ILoveDaffodills · 07/04/2026 19:44

I've just re read the op & she did say 'freecycle' TYPE groups, but they are on Facebook. So I'm going to leave this thread now (some of you will be pleased to know 🤣🤣)

This was clear in your first post and makes zero difference.

The woman who runs both groups has every right to run them in whatever way she chooses. She is the one putting in the effort, and she therefore gets to choose the rules. She isn’t being a CF because they’re her pages that she administrates and if she wants pet-related items to go to the pet food bank that she runs, that is her perfectly reasonable choice.

If you want to give away pet related items without taking them to her pet food bank, that’s fine - there are a million and one other ways that you can do that. A local freecycle group that meets your personal preferences isn’t some kind of automatic right FFS.

BauhausOfEliott · 07/04/2026 22:18

ILoveDaffodills · 07/04/2026 19:09

what if you don't have Facebook?

That isn’t anyone else’s problem. Other people don’t have to provide you with your preferred means of getting or giving free stuff.

Find your own way like everyone else ffs.

Bluddyellfire · 07/04/2026 22:25

So, where have we got to then @OneGreatUmberZebra ? Toss up between create a potentially mutinous second Facebook group yourself just for pet stuff, or put your old dog leads in the bin?

ILoveDaffodills · 07/04/2026 22:26

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 07/04/2026 16:22

Erm yes among the 8 million mumsnet users I happened to fall upon a post about a woman I knew in a village I live in within minutes of the OP writing it. Here's chocolate button and your amateur sleuth badge.

I thought she was aiming her sleuthing at me.

but I'll borrow your reply thanks!!

No, it was perfectly clear from the outset.

We just all think YABU.

But these are Facebook groups, aren't they? So if you didn't have FB you wouldn't be affected by her rules anyway.

iamfedupwiththis · 07/04/2026 16:04

Anything else going on in your life OP? Because you sure would do with something!

:-). I thought much the same.

MikeYoungIsStillHot · 08/04/2026 09:05

I totally see why you’re annoyed, OP. Lots on here are deliberately being obtuse then others have jumped on the bandwagon, as always happens on here.

Unfortunately lots of FB group owners seem to think they rule the whole world, and that everyone should say ‘how high?’ if they tell them to jump.

ILoveDaffodills · 08/04/2026 09:19

Yeah, I realised that when I re read the OP & said so at 19.44. I'd forgotten she'd said 'freecycle like' groups, but they were actually FB. I put myself in the naughty step 🤣
