Ok I know there are bigger problems in the world at the moment but,

Is this woman a huge CF?!

There are two facebook groups for our village, a ‘Freecycle’ type group ie
stuff you want rid of, no good for selling but someone could still make use of.
And, a Pet Food Bank.
Both these groups are run by the same woman.

Posts on the freecycle group will go for admin approval,

Generally what happens with the freecycle group is that people will snap things up pretty fast and they will collect them from you. I’ve given quite a few things away on there over the years to very grateful people!

With the Pet Foodbank, she emphasises that she does NOT collect items, you have to get them to her.

The other day, the owner / admin posted on the freecycle group to announce that she would no longer be approving any posts with Pet items to give away. All Pet items need to be going straight to her at the pet food bank (whether its food or other items like collars, leads etc) and she will now be declining any posts with such items.

Is she being a CF? Surely there are other people who may not need food from her, but they would still like other things for their pets?

She’s saying this and still expects you to take the items to her! I’m speechless!?

OP posts:

Her Facebook page, her time, her volunteering contribution. She can do whatever she likes.

Don’t like it - set up your own.

Why what is in your original post that makes this a poor suggestion?

Nothing in your original post is contradictory to @sallymonella’s suggestion.

OneGreatUmberZebra · 07/04/2026 16:13

Quite. I know a fair few people here who don’t drive, and the public transport is useless.

Then they can just give their pet accessories away through FB Marketplace or the real Freecycle site instead.

Myneighbourisanosyoldgit · 07/04/2026 16:19

Let's face it, things aren't going how OP planned on here and her calling someone a cf who doesn't appear to be anything of the sort.

I don't understand what you are outraged about, @OneGreatUmberZebra . How do the pet items and food get distributed? Are you implying she's keeping them for her own use or gaining from them in some way?
If you feel that strongly, use other local sites. You can advertise anything you like to sell yourself - doesn'thave to be on her groups. She doesn't own the rights to anything on Facebook, locally or otherwise. However, on a page set up and administered by her, she can set her own rules. If you think it should be done differently and you have the time that it takes to admin a group, set your own up.

Agree. I also don’t understand. Tho I’m only posting to say how much I like @sallymonella username 😁

running any sort of group like this is always a lot more work than most people realise.

OvernightBloats · 07/04/2026 16:21

This is an example of whatever you do, there is always someone who will find fault and complain. If you think you can do better, start your own pet foodbank and then find out how much work is involved.

Cut the lady some slack. She is trying to help and you are picking holes in how she does it.

glitterpaperchain · 07/04/2026 16:21

I'm confused, it sounds like she runs a pet food bank so she wants donations to be brought to the pet food bank. Which seems reasonable?

I think it's different to a page where people can just say they have free pet stuff going, if she's actually running a pet food bank herself.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 07/04/2026 16:22

Myneighbourisanosyoldgit · 07/04/2026 16:16

Do you know the woman concerned? Sounds like you know her or the OP in the way you write and staunchly defending her, live in the same village or just pulling the punches? 🤔

Erm yes among the 8 million mumsnet users I happened to fall upon a post about a woman I knew in a village I live in within minutes of the OP writing it. Here's chocolate button and your amateur sleuth badge.

columnatedruinsdomino · 07/04/2026 16:23

Food banks and Clothes banks are where people drop things off. Presume the Petfood bank runs along the same lines.

OneGreatUmberZebra · 07/04/2026 16:27

Honestly, I think maybe I did not explain myself properly so I’m going to try again..

this woman runs both the local freecycle page, and the Pet food bank page. On the freecycle page, she is saying that she will no longer be approving any posts that are for giving away pet items, as she wants them brought directly to her, rather than anybody else in the village getting a chance to have them.

Well then they can’t contribute to the Petfood bank. They can just sell/give away on normal FB sites where people can collect from their home.

Yeah able bodied car drivers /owners don't consider other people are not as able to 'just...'

A lot of people donating pet stuff might be elderly & no longer driving or able to walk a great distance.

Happyjoe · 07/04/2026 16:30

Isn't it just the posts declined, rather than the goodies? If 20 people decide to announce they are donating, that's important posts going down the list. Plus her time having to sort out the admin.
Can folk just not drop off the items as the bottom line is it's doing good for the community? She's not keeping everything is she? But running a pet food bank? We had one near us, once a week in a church hall and people went along to donate or collect.

I see, that does seem a bit rubbish. But then it's her page so she can do what she wants I guess

Yes, we all understand that. It doesn't make a difference. They are her groups, she can do what she wants!

I think everyone understands what is happening but just don't see the issue.

Of course if as a village you would all like a facebook group that allows you to post free pet items to give away to local villagers who can collect from you that would also be totally reasonable on yours or anyone else's part.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 07/04/2026 16:35

Also how much free pet stuff can one village have that this is such an issue for you?

ILoveDaffodills · 07/04/2026 16:36

columnatedruinsdomino · 07/04/2026 16:28

That is true too.

I don't use any of these sites so it seemed like she was dominating the local sites, as she's the admin. But if not, then I guess she can crack on & others who want/need donations collected will just have to advertise differently.

EDIT just to say when
i dud used to belong to the local freecycle group, you could only gave INE for helical area. If that's still the case she's an unfit admin making up her own rules. In the old days she would have been removed as an admin for gate keeping.

Brought directly to her so she can keep them, you mean? Or because she's consolidating all the pet stuff into one bank for general use?

She probably won't get much stuff if the new rules are that she gets first dibs for keeping and it all has to be brought to her.
