To think I should be pregnant?!

Posting for traffic - looking for experiences of copper coil removal.

DH and I TTC first baby.

We only started trying this cycle so I was totally okay with not being pregnant when I took an early test just before my period was due and it was negative because it takes time etc.

However, as of today my period is THREE days late and no sign of it coming. I have done multiple tests including a digital clear blue (which was negative) and I have had a mixture of negatives and very faint positive lines.

I am mostly just confused tbh. My periods have been like clockwork for years and the only thing that has changed is I had my IUD removed to start the cycle but it was the copper one and everything I have read says it doesn’t make a difference to your cycle as you still ovulate etc.

AIBU to still think I could be pregnant?

Tests are very accurate. You’ll always read some stories about false negatives but when you’ve taken multiple, chances are slim especially if you know when you ovulated so know it’s definitely been long enough to pick up on pregnancy hormones. Also googled and it says that copper IUD’s absolutely do affect cycles when removed.

Shallotsaresmallonions · 06/04/2026 17:08

If your period is 3 days late and you're testing negative, then it's very very unlikely, unfortunately. Having an iud removed can make your cycles irregular for a couple of months so I'd get some ovulation strips to pin down when you're actually ovulating.

Good luck for next cycle!

It’s so frustrating isn’t it? We’ve been TTC since December having got pregnant first time round with our DD. This cycle my period was 5 days late but negative tests and it’s bloody heartbreaking!

Hopefully your periods regulate themselves a bit more now and you’ll get your positive soon!

It feels like my body is mocking me! Hope you get your positive test soon 🙏🏻

We only started trying this cycle

Keep reading the above. It's very unlikely you'll get pregnant first time trying, regardless of anything else.

This is what I have been trying to tell myself and I really was fine with it until my period decided not to come and got my hopes up!

OK put the tests down. Three days late and multiple tests? That’s madness. I swear someone at clearblue has marketed this weird huge number of tests per pregnancy. One or two, a week after your period is due. Then not at all again.

OneCoralGoose · 06/04/2026 17:29

You have a 20% chance of getting pregnant every month if you are trying. And the coil does effect you after removal so it could be dates are off. But even if you had sex every day of your fertile window its 20% chance. 6 months is the average it takes to take pregnant after that get advice if over 35 and if under its a year. It would be unusual to get pregnant first try

It’s hardly “frustrating “ not getting pregnant literally days after removing an IUD

Coconutter24 · 06/04/2026 17:31

Your cycle is more likely to be disrupted due the coil being removed.

Cutelittlepuppy · 06/04/2026 17:44

As someone who has had fertility issues firstly I really hope you don't have to go through that but secondly you really need to calm down. Getting pregnant takes time. For me a lot of it but even for most people it can easily take 6 months. For your own sanity in this process try and take your mind off of it.

ThornsInACheapBouquet · 06/04/2026 18:15

In the kindest way possible, you need to step away from the tests. It can take months to get pregnant and you will not be doing your mental health any favours getting out the tests every month. You don’t need to test multiple times. Once your period is a day or so late there should be enough Hgc in your system to get an unmistakable result. If not wait a few days and test again. You don’t want to get into testing multiple times a day.

Mt563 · 06/04/2026 18:21

Stop with the testing and waiting. Just have sex and enjoy yourselves for a few months. You really don't want to start high pressure, stressing over pregnancy from your first cycle trying, you'll drive yourself insane.

That is exactly my DHs attitude!

He's right. worrying won't improve your chances. It could take a year even for a healthy couple with no issues. It gets tiring fast if you're overthinking and overanalysing everything.

I had the coil removed and got pregnant first month of trying. Had a false negative for first test - dc is 21 this year! Same happened for dc 3 - so it is possible.

Katemax82 · 06/04/2026 19:02

I once missed an entire period while TTC. I even went to the doctor's for a blood test. I got pregnant about 3 months later

JehovasFitness · 06/04/2026 19:28

Very faint positives are positives so long as they really are positives and not evaporation lines.

Unfortunately some pregnancies won’t progress but we got a faint positive and didn’t test again, just went to the GP. She’s 13 months and asleep on my chest.

Wasn’t the coil but we got pregnant in our first cycle after ceasing contraception.

Agree with PP’s about the pressure/overtesting though. And those Clearblue things are stupidly expensive despite doing the same job as the 5 for £1 strips in B&M.

I’m going to leave it for now - if no AF by the weekend I think I will have to give it one more go just to be doubly doubly sure!

@Katemax82 that’s so odd! I have never missed a period ever and being late is extremely strange for me

It was awful...I was convinced I had false negatives and kept telling myself I was pregnant...there was no explanation

PeonyPatch · 06/04/2026 20:05

This is hardly surprising after one month from removing IUD. You come across as quite inpatient. My DH and I have been ttc for about a year. These things can take time.

Credittocress · 06/04/2026 20:08

Having your coil removed could put your period out of whack, but so could stress and worry as well.

Honestly, for the first couple of months trying I would stop counting dates have lots of sex and enjoy yourselves.

OP based on your description I'd bet on it being a "chemical" / failed implantation scenario. Those often result in slightly late periods and very faint positives that never get stronger mixed with negatives. They ate super common.

DevilsKitchen · 09/04/2026 09:43

STILL NO PERIOD AND I HAVE JUST HAD A POSITIVE 1-2 WEEKS ON A CLEAR BLUE.

I decided to test again as it’s been a few days and still nothing and my ovulation strips were showing up as faint positives which I read can sometimes actually mean you are pregnant.

AM I PREGNANT?

I am wfh so I have just used express delivery to order some more tests from the local coop.
