Post meno, boobs got much bigger and I hate it

It’s a first world problem but it’s getting me down. Late 50s, post meno, prob about 8lbs overweight but do a lot of strength work and heavy weights several times a week, plus some cardio and regular walking, lots of clean eating AND I still hate my body.

especially my growing boobs! Always biggish, now feel really big. And it’s getting me down. Hate how I look in tops

but I can’t seem to lose weight! But if I do, would it make a difference to my breast size?

sorry, a bit of a rubbish post

Are you on HRT? I went up two sizes on it and I was only a B cup before.

Teamilkcoffee · 29/03/2026 19:42

I’ve been on HRT for over 10 years and it’s not made the difference I’ve seen recently

do you feel any lumps? I think I read somewhere that if boobs continue to grow past teenage year to check for certain diseases, specially if they continue to grow but don't stop to grow.

GoodThingsAlways · 29/03/2026 20:09

Me! Not on HRT but my boobs have grown so much and I hate it, too. I manage to disguise it with dark, block colours & good fitting bras but I can’t wear certain dresses (empire line, wraps) and I generally cover up with a jacket. Finding a bikini is hard. Considering a reduction. I was a 34B previously which I thought perfect. Big boobs just make me look dumpy and unelegant.

justasking111 · 29/03/2026 20:10

My friend saved up for a boob reduction. Can you do that?

CharlotteRumpling · 29/03/2026 20:11

Minimising bras?

PottingBench · 29/03/2026 20:11

During the menopause years I put on about three stone. My boobs went from a lifelong 34B to 36DD. I did Slimming World and lost the three stone. I lost ten inches around my waist but my boobs stayed a stubborn 36DD. My grandma had exactly the same thing so I think it might be menopause/post menopause thing.

GoodThingsAlways · 29/03/2026 20:11

Oh! Like you, I am fit, walking 10 km or running 5 km almost every day, sometimes do weights. Abdominal exercises have helped, weirdly, but the only thing that has a noticeable difference is going down to 800 calories, which just isn’t practical. So maybe losing weight would help? Very hard though.

Same thing happened to me, after I started HRT, following the menopause. My boobs went up to 42FF. Had reduction eight years ago to 40 D

Edited

I think it tends to happen as you get older, mine seemed to go up a size every decade, I used to be small as a teenager but once I hit 45 they expanded

Teamilkcoffee · 29/03/2026 21:15

This thread is depressing me 😢😢

It is very common. That probably doesn't help, but it's true. As reductions are major surgery (at least I'm told that's the case if you have big boobs that you're trying to have reduced by quite a lot), I'm a bit worried because I have always been quite blessed, but really don't want any more, yet going by the women in my family, I could expect to be a J cup in the next decade or so.
If this helps, aunties say getting a good sportsbra for daily wear is useful.

mugglewump · 30/03/2026 18:04

Can I join this gang? I have always been big breasted for my petite frame, but now I am wearing a G cup! I am a bit overweight (BMI of 27) and on HRT with no plans to come off it because of osteoperosis. I'm a size 14 top, a 12 waist and size 10 hips; I look like a squeezed tube of toothpaste.

There are other medications

There are drugs, yes, but I am trying to avoid them for as long as possible -‘and HRT and strength work is a much better option. Big boobs are horrible (for me) but the best of the options

Inspired by this thread I bought myself a minimiser bra from M&S today. Oh my goodness what a difference. I actually felt neat and not so pillowy in my top for the first time in a decade today.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I sort of thought it wouldn't make any difference but it really does.

ScreamingInfidelities · 30/03/2026 19:13

I had a breast reduction 4 years ago - most amazing thing I’ve ever done! I know they could grow again post menopause so I’m saving up and I would do it again if necessary. It’s not as gruesome as you might think.

I’m on HRT and my already big boobs have become an absolute sight. I tried minimiser bras but they just seemed to make me look even bigger, or they were really uncomfortable. I am fed up with it too.

Interesting that so many confirm this. My GP was adamant HRT doesn't cause boob and weight gain, but it did for me. Pillowy is the exact word. Gone off it now and boobs shrunk.

justasking111 · 01/04/2026 14:08

I couldn't have hrt my boobs still grew 😭

Yes I haven’t taken it either but still got bigger

RavenT · 01/04/2026 14:25

I am on HRT and my boobs are now massive too. I was a 32G before, so not small, now a 34JJ. I have been off HRT temporarily and they shrunk, so I know it is related to HRT mostly, but I need to take the HRT for so many other things! They also feel/look much fuller all over on HRT, which I guess to some would be a good thing, but if I bend down they are under my chin ffs!
