Well this is insane, the bandsintown app just sent me a casual message saying.. "N'Trance are in your town soon... click to learn more..." (Swansea is a city, not a town, but ok!)

I mean N'frigging'Trance? The Set You Free people?! Here?! Really?! It was my all time favourite club song back when I was a yoof!

So I have booked - very reasonable to be fair - and now I am having a pre-event crisis. What do you wear to day discos?! I have a nice vintage sequin jacket and DMs, can I just squeeze my HRT body into throw on a little black dress of some lycra description and put some glow-in-the-dark gel eyeshadow on?

It's also made me laugh - all the times I tried to get into clubs with the paper driving licence of older friends... - but this is strictly over 30s! I'm, shall we say, 'comfortably' over the threshold!

Put on your normal clubbing gear (if you have any I know I didn’t!) yes it might feel weird waiting for your mates in the pub dressed up in the afternoon but once you are inside it just feels like it’s nighttime! Plus it’s great to have a night out where you can still get to bed at a reasonable time 😆

My bed time is 10pm - so this is perfect really!! I was trying to remember the last time I went clubbing - honestly can't remember! So no club gear as such, but I think my jacket kind of makes up for it, I'll get a lycra black dress and have the boots already (I think I maybe inadvertently be modelling my style on Anita from 2 Unlimited, also back in the day!!) Thank you - I honestly nearly fell off my chair when I saw the notification as was fully expecting it to be a tribute or something - no, it's the actual people and also five hours of dancing with fellow older boppers!

It’s a great idea you’ll have a fab time 😉

Davros · 04/03/2026 18:26

I go quite often. It’s a real mixture so wear what you want and have a great time. I don’t even know that band 😹 the ones I go to are 70s/80s

minipie · 04/03/2026 18:28

I’m envious! There’s a day disco soon near me but none of my mates are keen 😩 thinking of going alone but not sure how much fun that would be. I just want to dance!

Personally I’d wear trousers and a small top to go under the sequin jacket but then I don’t have the legs for an LBD. Ifyou do then go for it!

Pandorea · 04/03/2026 18:29

Last one I went to I wore wide leg jeans and a crochet top (am mid 50s). There were some people a bit dressed up but a lot of jeans and t shirts etc. It was much more dress to be comfortable and dance than dress to pull!

My parents visited today and just called to say they got home safely - I told my mum about it and she said: "Are they the ones with the limousine song?!" (They were hanging out of a limousine sunroof in the video) So even she remembers how much I LOVED that particular song. And headphones weren't really a thing when I was younger, unless they were those sponge things on a rigid wire band! So excited! Your wink makes me think you'll be there too?!

Oh that's good to hear - I remember dressing up to the high nines to get into the Ministry of Sound when I was under 21... got in there and everyone was in trainers and jeans... I had a little silk dress and a feather boa, I probably looked a complete tit!! To be fair I think they had one big song and then a few covers...

Aww love, come to Swansea - I'd go with you!!

Totally get what you mean about dancing too - I think we really underestimate how much fun it can be and really gets the endorphins going - don't get me wrong, I am NOT a good dancer. I flail around the place! But it's such a release and providing you don't bump into anyone else, no one cares what shapes you throw really! Big box, small box, big box, small box, do the fish, do the fish!

The one thing I have going for me is my legs to be fair - I played heaps of rugby in my yoof, I was a scrum half and my muscle memory is still there! (Although probably opaque black tights because I get chicken skin like the best of them!)

That makes a lot of sense and frankly I am there to groove... if someone wants to snog me round the back of the bins (does that still happen?!) I might be amenable... but it's definitely about the music and throwing mad shapes in the afternoon! I'm 47 and wide leg cords are my best friend at the moment, but I think I might break out my sticks for this one... (with 90 denier tights!) Kind of thinking I might even crimp my hair... am I going too far now?! 😅

I just wear light stuff and comfy footwear as I get very hot these days. Hope you have a great time, there are some fantastic day disco’s about.

Chinsupmeloves · 04/03/2026 18:46

Just wear what you want to, no one cares as they're all going for the same reason, to have fun!

PoliteSquid · 04/03/2026 18:57

It’s mostly women over 40 in trainers and jeans at the one I go to! My day disco friends and I play “spot the blokes” - last time was very exciting because there were more than 5 🤣
Have the best time!!! And to the PP thinking of going alone - just do it! You’ll have so much fun!!!

CrystalSingerFan · 04/03/2026 18:57

Have a great time, OP. Plus thanks for letting me know that Swansea's a city! It even has a cathedral. Who knew?

minipie · 04/03/2026 21:17

Last few times I went dancing I got very sweaty (sorry TMI) so I would bear that in mind with your outfit…. Bring some socks so you can take your tights off if you need to! Nobody can see chicken skin in a disco anyway!

You’ve inspired me to have another go at rounding up dancing friends … nowhere near swansea sadly! Enjoy :)

Oh yes it’s grade two and everything! I’ve never been… but I would if they held a Day Disco! Thanks lovely, am getting proper vamped for it now!

I love that you have said this as I bought two tickets. Not sure if anyone else will want to go with me, but even if they don’t I am definitely going! Spot the Blokes is so funny - I will update!

Oh love, I am the sweatiest of all sweaty betties. Honestly, I shouldn’t be allowed to move! I also always take my shoes off at some point and put them in my handbag, so I am properly ‘dance feral’.

Definitely round up your best mates and if they are rubbish… well come to Swansea in April!

PS. I played semi-professional rugby for years, along with all of the injuries, but nothing too serious. On my ‘retirement’ day we went to a club for a groove… and I pulled a bum muscle on the light up dance floor and limped around for a month with a broken bum! I still don’t think it’s quite right!

"Oh yes it’s grade two and everything! I’ve never been… " That good, eh?

PS What's your view on Silent Discos? I've seen a few in the folk festivals I go to, and don't quite get them. But I am old.

Davros · 04/03/2026 23:35

I think it’s all about the dancing. That is the key. The ones I go to are at least 50% male and everyone is having a good time. No tension

OhWhatABeautifulDay · 04/03/2026 23:44

Why on earth would you wear sequins 😆

Comfy trainers for leaping around, jeans/trousers, fun top.

Structured bra for the boobs 😂

Davros · 04/03/2026 23:44

Take a fan 🪭 if you’ve got one

TwistedWonder · 04/03/2026 23:46

I’m 60 and still go to a lot of daytime dance music events - anything goes. From very casual jeans to absolute bling. No one bats an eyelid

I recommend trainers though.

I think I would probably burst into flames if I walked through the door of any religious institution to be honest! But it is quite cool that Swansea still has older buildings because it was subject to a 72-hour blitz in February 1941 - second only to Coventry in terms of devastation.

I've never been to a Silent Disco - I get what they are for, but for me half of the fun is grooving to the same tune to be fair. I think I prefer non-silent discos!

Sounds right up my street! I think the only bit I am worried about is the 'day' bit as I can only really let loose with my dance skills in the dark!*

*Which is to everyone's benefit to be fair!
