Well this is insane, the bandsintown app just sent me a casual message saying.. "N'Trance are in your town soon... click to learn more..." (Swansea is a city, not a town, but ok!)

I mean N'frigging'Trance? The Set You Free people?! Here?! Really?! It was my all time favourite club song back when I was a yoof!

So I have booked - very reasonable to be fair - and now I am having a pre-event crisis. What do you wear to day discos?! I have a nice vintage sequin jacket and DMs, can I just squeeze my HRT body into throw on a little black dress of some lycra description and put some glow-in-the-dark gel eyeshadow on?

It's also made me laugh - all the times I tried to get into clubs with the paper driving licence of older friends... - but this is strictly over 30s! I'm, shall we say, 'comfortably' over the threshold!

Why on earth would you wear sequins 😆

Comfy trainers for leaping around, jeans/trousers, fun top.

Structured bra for the boobs 😂

Because = pretty!

Fair point about the bra actually, probably need a sports one!

Take a fan 🪭 if you’ve got one

Oh that's a really good call, thank you. Brilliant idea.

I’m 60 and still go to a lot of daytime dance music events - anything goes. From very casual jeans to absolute bling. No one bats an eyelid

I recommend trainers though.

Edited

Yes I am thinking trainers rather than boots on reflection, more malleable.

Woo, I am getting excited now!

Wear your sequins and enjoy shaking your groove thang! You'll soon forget it’s daytime and then the bonus is that you’ve got the whole evening free! I want to come now

Davros · 08/03/2026 11:35

@Arlanymor did you go or hadn’t it happened yet? 🪩

Have the best time OP! The over 30s discos are becoming over popular and you can still be in bed by 10!

Ah you'll have a great time @Arlanymor I went to one of the day discos with my friends before Christmas time, and like the classic experience back in the day, my dad actually came to pick me up and take me home when it finished at 8pm! He said, at least it is 8pm I'm picking you up and not 3am 😂

The one I went to is the one set up by that actress from Line of Duty and her husband (Vicky McClure I think), so it was a DJ rather than the actual bands, but it was fab it played so many good tunes from back in the day.

It was also set as 30+ so age range was from there up, mostly women in their 40s like me! A few older. Some men too, but older, I think there with their wives. Everyone had a ball! Was so fun. Straight up dancing for 6 hours!

I wore black tights, comfy trainers and a glittery jacket, most people were in comfy shoes. One mad woman was in knee high boots but halfway in I noticed she'd thrown them off.

A friend has been to a Vicky McClure one and enjoyed it. I favour Gary Crowley’s Lost 80s and I had tickets recently to Wendy May’s Locomotion but couldn’t go. All DJs obviously

Aww thanks for asking, I've moved house and the internet isn't sorted yet, so picking up bits of internet here and there! Not yet - it's in April! Can't wait to be honest. Dance off my jelly belly!

Works so perfectly for me!

Yes her husband is from Merthyr I believe?! Sounds amazing and your outfit is pretty much what I am going for - just need to invest in some black pumps. Love that interaction with your dad! Mine would say the same!!
