Belfast K-pop concert flop

AndrewFormallyKnownAsPrince · 22/02/2026 01:22

Has anyone seen this on social media ? My neighbour went and complained it wasn’t K-pop demon hunters..

Basically a load of Mums from Belfast thought they were buying tickets to see the 2 bands from K-pop demon hunters or that all of the songs would be from K-pop demon hunters. In fact it was a tribute act to lots of K-pop acts like BTS and Blackpink etc.

Loads of disappointed children, hundreds of videos about how the singers were wearing really inappropriate clothing (hot pants and crop tops), that the poster was misleading that it wouldn’t be about K-pop demon hunters (the poster has AI cartoons of K-pop stars), one or two videos saying how Kpop should be ashamed of themselves as though Kpop isn’t an entire genre of music.. one woman’s kids asked her when Kpop was coming on and another one complained that she’d dyed her kids hair purple for it.

People are comparing it to the Glasgow Willy Wonka experience.. the comments on the videos are funny to be fair like I went to a queen concert and she didn’t come on stage 😂

Personally my kids aren’t into K-pop yet but if I bought tickets to a tour I think I’d check what I was buying first!

I think anyone who brings their child to a concert without researching who they're going to see makes their own bed.

Similar happened in Aberdeen made the local paper and subsequent shows cancelled by the theatre.

That’s actually quite sad!

I feel quite sorry for the organizers.

I've had to explain that kpop is not just a movie to family members, after my son loved the movie and we started to play him some kpop songs that weren't in it.. so I complelty get the confusion of people who have only heard the term kpop in the context of the film.

But it isn't a concerts job to explain and clarify their genre of music in their marketing, and it must be frustrating to have your whole genre, and one tied to your nationality, reduced and conflated with a movie.

Xnz2022 · 22/02/2026 01:43

As for the suitability... Yes kpop is a bit skimpy on clothes at times, but not really worse than a lot of western pop. Again though the movie confuses this because it has been seen by younger kids whose parents then presume that kpop as a whole is for kids. There is kpop for kids, just like there is pop for kids, but similarly to western music, most of the popular stuff is aimed at teens/young adults, and is more inline with what they are going to find exciting.

I agree with all of this! I feel sorry for the singers too

K pop is the Jimmy Savile of Gen Z

Boredonafridaynight · 22/02/2026 01:59

I do feel sorry for them as alot of people didnt read it properly, me included but they played a concert in my area last night and had nothing but positive reviews. But I will say apart from the misconception from the Belfast concert some of the vocals where absolutely shocking

friendlikeme · 22/02/2026 02:08

Eesh. That’s a bit silly of them!

Silverbirchleaf · 22/02/2026 03:58

Even an old gimmer like me knows that k-pop is a genre, not a band, and the advert dues describe multiple bands covered.

TidyDancer · 22/02/2026 06:09

It’s a shame the organisers are getting criticised for what seems to be little more than ignorance on the part of the parents here. Okay the song with swearing in the interval isn’t great but it’s so minor! I can’t really see what else the organisers did wrong here.

PJ98 · 22/02/2026 06:55

I've seen someone say that they thought it was "clearly KPOP on the poster" (meaning Demon Hunters) "because one has pink hair" 🙄 Someone else said they thought kpop should only mean demon hunters as well! Well if that's what you thought.. 😂

I browsed past a similar show (England) for my child, read the part where it listed other bands on the poster, didn't buy tickets. I'm not quite sure how everyone else missed it because it was quite clear.

Barrellturn · 22/02/2026 07:03

A similar show was near me. I had a quick look as DD loves a few kpop bands but I decided it looked very 'butlins' and not to bother.

Topbobble · 22/02/2026 07:06

Not sure how peoples ignorance is the organisers fault.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 22/02/2026 07:18

I think it’s crazy that these parents didn’t know k-pop was a actual genre of music. Not the brightest are they?

Dollymylove · 22/02/2026 07:39

There is one upcoming at my local theatre
"KPOP Huntaz Live . Does that sound like the same one? I think my son has booked to take my DGD

Bennybannsider2 · 22/02/2026 07:51

Hmm. To me this looks like it's going the way of the McDonald's hot coffee lady.

By that I mean, clinging onto a few Belfast mums who come across as a bit dim with their comments about Demon Hunters and it not being the kpop they thought it would be. And commentary about the below par vocals and production, and the swearing have been all but silenced.

On Thursday night iirc the complaints were about the show standard, and the promoter made a statement that the show was "of arena standard" as I understood that was the main issue at the start. I wasn't there but it did look pretty crap for being in the SSE arena....as a pp mentioned, Butlins would have suited fine... The promoter can't win that one. The Belfast women are a handy scapegoat.

Exactly. How is it the organisers fault that people can’t read a poster.

bigbadbitchface · 22/02/2026 07:55

i’ve got tickets to this in april. local adverts emphasised demon hunters buy the actual show advert lists all the other stuff. DD
still wants to go even though it’s not all from hunters. we’ll see….

weareallqueens · 22/02/2026 08:02

This Willy Wonka thing… any show that isn’t EXACTLY what punters expected is described as being ‘just like Glasgow’s Willy Wonka experience’. Drives me mad. 😂

No one has produced any receipts for these adverts that have been showing it as Demon Hunter themed though, despite everyone saying it was advertised as that. I think people have seen what they wanted to see, you included!

TheGriffle · 22/02/2026 09:00

Not the same show but I’m taking dd to this similar Kpop tribute next month, it clearly states it’s a tribute of all different Kpop bands but it also states they will also be doing Kpop demon hunter songs. Dd prefers regular Kpop and can give or take HuntrX or whatever they’re called so we’ll see what this one is like!

FlatErica · 22/02/2026 09:03

People are stupid; it’s not the organisers fault. I’m nearly 60 and I’ve never heard a K-pop song in my life and even I know it’s genre not just a movie.

somanychristmaslights · 22/02/2026 09:09

I have no idea about K-pop, but the word tribute in the poster clearly gives it away???
