Belfast K-pop concert flop

Has anyone seen this on social media ? My neighbour went and complained it wasn’t K-pop demon hunters..

Basically a load of Mums from Belfast thought they were buying tickets to see the 2 bands from K-pop demon hunters or that all of the songs would be from K-pop demon hunters. In fact it was a tribute act to lots of K-pop acts like BTS and Blackpink etc.

Loads of disappointed children, hundreds of videos about how the singers were wearing really inappropriate clothing (hot pants and crop tops), that the poster was misleading that it wouldn’t be about K-pop demon hunters (the poster has AI cartoons of K-pop stars), one or two videos saying how Kpop should be ashamed of themselves as though Kpop isn’t an entire genre of music.. one woman’s kids asked her when Kpop was coming on and another one complained that she’d dyed her kids hair purple for it.

People are comparing it to the Glasgow Willy Wonka experience.. the comments on the videos are funny to be fair like I went to a queen concert and she didn’t come on stage 😂

Personally my kids aren’t into K-pop yet but if I bought tickets to a tour I think I’d check what I was buying first!

K pop is the Jimmy Savile of Gen Z

Huh? Genuinely curious what this means

MouldyCandy · 22/02/2026 09:21

I LOVED Demon Hunters (more than my DD) and I've seen the K-POP music show advertised on my Facebook feed. It's clear it's a tribute act.

I would like to think they use singers who can speak fluent Korean - but I doubt it. It's just a wiley concert promotor jumping on a bandwagon. People who think Huntrix are actually going to perform at their local town hall are deluded.

Also curious to what this means? A whole genre is equivalent to Jimmy Saville?

SomethingFun · 22/02/2026 09:34

There’s loads of these shows - they’re about £20 a ticket so I don’t know what people are expecting. We’ve got one booked and I imagine it will be fun for the kids. Nothing wrong with Butlin’s so not sure why pps are using that as a sneering commentary on these shows. Perhaps your pre-teens only wish to go to Glyndebourne.

Not the same show but I’m taking dd to this similar Kpop tribute next month, it clearly states it’s a tribute of all different Kpop bands but it also states they will also be doing Kpop demon hunter songs. Dd prefers regular Kpop and can give or take HuntrX or whatever they’re called so we’ll see what this one is like!

I think this is the one at our local arena (small venue). Poster makes it obvious it is tribute acts. Caused chaos on the roads round us but every comment /review i've seen has raved about how much the kids (small kids) absolutely loved it!!
KPop is definitely a genre not a specific 'group'

The original complaint reminds me of the people who'd paid for tickets to go and see The Red Hot Chilli Peppers but it was actually the Red Hot Chilli Pipers!! 🤣

No one has produced any receipts for these adverts that have been showing it as Demon Hunter themed though, despite everyone saying it was advertised as that. I think people have seen what they wanted to see, you included!

No, I have seen quite correctly thank you 🙄The local one for the hall I booked for (won’t post as it’s outing, small town) doesn’t specifically say demon hunters but list songs they do such as golden and soda pop 🤷‍♀️

Fornwhat it’s worth I was under no illusion though that it was a specific demon hunter show and told my daughter this when i booked it, she still wanted to go as
ling as they sing these songs. I won’t post the full thing as it’s very specific to the area but i’ve attached screenshot of the description from the advent i saw, so I don’t get accused of not seeing clearly

As the parent of 10 year old girl who loves kpop demon hunters, even I know k-pop is a genre of music and it quite clearly says tribute on the poster. So some random people singing kpop songs.

The people moaning are clearly not very bright and didnt do their homework before buying.

I think the Belfast one started at around £40 a ticket. We didn't go but some of the school mums were talking about it. One who I am friendly with did say the singing was shockingly bad but her DD enjoyed being at a concert. Lots of the parents did not really know of k-pop outside of the Demon Hunters film, just not on their radar. I don't think that's crime of the century but yes I would have a good look before bringing DC to an event. It was a school night here so all that palaver for them not to enjoy it is a shame.

gototogo · 22/02/2026 10:01

It does say kpop and they typically wear skimpy clothes. Doesn’t say demon hunters at all on the poster. My dd has been a kpop fan for more than 10 years alas!

Nofeckingway · 22/02/2026 10:10

It's like when they do a Miss Rachel show or Fireman Sam. It's obviously not going to be the actual characters in your local Town Hall 😁.

To be fair at £40 a ticket in a large arena , I am not surprised that Belfast mothers expected a higher quality than what seems to have been presented.

Don't mess with the women of Belfast 😬

AtomicBlondeRose · 22/02/2026 10:16

I am genuinely surprised that people didn’t know KPop was a genre - I’m really not a music follower and have known about it for years! I’ve heard of BTS and Blackpink but not the others. Couldn’t sing you any of their songs but it’s been quite a big phenomenon for most of the 2020s. In fact I (wrongly) thought it was a bit over before the Demon Hunters thing came out. I don’t listen to new music or the radio even but I do read newspapers online every day so I suppose this shows how you can just be completely shielded from things if it’s not in your bubble. On the other hand I never know who any of the people on celebrity shows are so that exposes my ignorance in that area!

Zennia · 22/02/2026 11:02

As a long-time Kpop fan since my teens, I have no doubt that this tribute show was a low-quality cash-grab with little resemblance to the diversity of Kpop music. Looking at the set list that's been reported online, it seems they mainly performed songs in English, so I'd assume most of the singers were not Korean and were more comfortable singing in English. I also find it bizarre that people would be happy to pay £40+ for a ticket (and several times over that if they're bringing multiple children) without having a clue about the quality of the performances or if the songs are child-friendly or not. I wouldn't bring my child to a Doja Cat cat concert and then complain about sexualised costumes/lyrics. That would be ridiculous.

However, I do think the organisers deliberately designed the promotional poster to make it look close enough to Kpop Demon Hunters to confuse some well-meaning but ill-informed parents. There are probably a lot of people out there who don't know that Kpop is an entire genre of music rather than just a thing from Kpop Demon Hunters, and this kind of "tribute show" cynically exploits that.

ScrambledEggs12 · 22/02/2026 12:01

We're going to something similar later in the year. My 9 year old loves KPop but isn't a huge fan of KPop Demon Hunters, so she'd have been disappointed if it was based on Demon Hunters!

Fransgran · 22/02/2026 13:08

My daughter and a group of her friends attended the Belfast show with their daughters. They knew perfectly well it was a tribute act. Contrary to the views of some on here, they are not dim little provincial housewives but educated professional women who wanted to give their little girls a fun outing. They found the entire thing shoddy and amateurish. There were no recognisable K pop songs played until after the interval by which time half the audience had gone home. Dissatisfaction was general and staff at the venue were offering cards so that customers could register complaints. However, the organisers immediately rushed out a defensive statement which was picked up by BBC news, making it clear that complaints, had they made any, would fall on deaf ears. As in so many areas, attack is seen as the best means of defence. Clearly some posters on here will leap to the defence of pretty much anything if it gives them an opportunity to ridicule other women.

AndrewFormallyKnownAsPrince · 22/02/2026 15:43

@Zenniai think the singers were Korean

@AndrewFormallyKnownAsPrince The one video I saw on YouTube showed two white-appearing singers performing in English. It's possible that the other performers are Korean though, I don't know.

ilovepixie · 22/02/2026 16:43

It’s all over my social media. Saying K pop didn’t come on and it wasn’t K pop 😂😂 People are so stupid. Even that local annoying influencer Zara Tweed person is getting in on the act saying I hope they change it as she’s going another night! As if they are going to change a whole show for her!
It’s a world tour and only Belfast has complained.

Hmm. To me this looks like it's going the way of the McDonald's hot coffee lady.

By that I mean, clinging onto a few Belfast mums who come across as a bit dim with their comments about Demon Hunters and it not being the kpop they thought it would be. And commentary about the below par vocals and production, and the swearing have been all but silenced.

On Thursday night iirc the complaints were about the show standard, and the promoter made a statement that the show was "of arena standard" as I understood that was the main issue at the start. I wasn't there but it did look pretty crap for being in the SSE arena....as a pp mentioned, Butlins would have suited fine... The promoter can't win that one. The Belfast women are a handy scapegoat.

I wish people wouldn’t keep referring to the McDonald’s case as if some stupid woman didn’t know coffee was hot. She suffered 3rd degree burns, had to have two years of medical treatment including skin grafts. McDonald was serving coffee at nearly 90 degC, as a cost cutting measure so people wouldn’t get so many free refills. This is 10 degC higher than other restaurants. An Executive from McDs was questioned during his deposition whether anyone should drink coffee at that temperature and he said no, it would cause terrible burns to the throat. When he was asked about the 700 similar cases brought against McDonalds in the ten years previous, he was proud because he thought it would be higher.

The woman’s own actions were taken into account in the case, and even so, the case was won.

I don’t know the ins and outs of this situation, but it does seem that an awful lot of people thought the same thing, which would lead me to suspect the advertising of it was vague. I’ve just looked at a poster advertising Demon Hunters and it has almost identical style and colouring so you can see how people might link the two. Indeed, it seems a deliberate attempt by this event to seem like they were the same thing.

What the actual fuck?

I suggest you read up on the McDonald's coffee case.

The poor woman's labia actually fused together because she was burnt so badly. All because it was cheaper for McDonald's to serve coffee that was ridiculously hot.

She deserved every cent of the compensation she received, and the fact she sued likely stopped others from being as badly burnt as she was.
