What's your favourite part of a full roast chicken?

Mines the skin.

Also extra large chicken does 2 adults for 1 dinner, cat gets some and if I can be arsed I will do a chicken soup on the Monday with the dregs.

Agree, the skin is the best.
As for a full roast dinner, stuffing, Yorkshire puds and gravy.

Squirrelchops1 · 08/02/2026 19:05

Oh blimey OP you're leaving yourself wide open to how an extra large chicken should feed a family of 6 and have sandwich and soup leftovers!

havingoneofthosedays · 08/02/2026 19:05

I have Yorkshire puddings & roast potatoes but no stuffing, weirdly I really like it but never think to add it unless it's a special occasion 😂

I like the oysters, and then a leg (but the top of the thigh being the best bit). I have a leg/thigh, DH has a breast. The rest goes in the fridge and we’ll have it for lunch the next day. Same as you, sometimes if I can be bothered I make soup, or just boil the carcass for stock.

TheMorgenmuffel · 08/02/2026 19:06

The oysters.

Loving24again · 08/02/2026 19:07

Blergh, not the skin, the dogs get that!
But proper gravy, made with the chicken juice, potato water, wine, and Yorkshire pudding mix? A thing of actual beauty 🥰

I know squirrel, but unless the chickens are the size of turkeys out with Scotland then I don't know how they possibly go that far 😉

Coming to yours to eat all the chicken skin

Skin if crispy, then the wings, again, if crispy.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 08/02/2026 19:09

Well I can make an extra large chicken feed a family of 6 for two weeks straight 😂.

in all seriousness. I like the chicken breast meat, potatoes, cauliflower cheese, braised cabbage and gravy. Not a huge fan of skin tbh, but DH likes it.

After the skin absolutely the oysters 🙌🏼

Ha! Multiple dogs mean you’ll get nowhere near it 🤣🤣🤣
Plus, it’s GRIM 🤮

TheChosenTwo · 08/02/2026 19:09

Mine’s the breast, I don’t like the dark meat and I don’t eat chicken on the bone!
Quite impressed that your large chicken does 2 people, that’s good going 😂
I buy one that’s about 2.5kg and it does 4 of us, maybe with just enough left for a sandwich! No MN chicken here in this house!
Mind you, chicken is possibly my least favourite roast, beef is king here - we’ve got it tonight, Yorkshires are just rising, shallots are caramelising, cauliflower cheese is browning and it’s all smelling good, of course I just sit up and eat, no cooking for me 🙌

MrTwisterHasABlister · 08/02/2026 19:11

Impossible question!

Hot, sticky wings are the chefs pre-lunch treat.

Thigh and a some slices of breast for the actual meal.

Rest of breast to whomever wants and then with leg for left overs.

Oysters are the spoils / reward for clearing down the kitchen.

TheMorgenmuffel · 08/02/2026 19:06

The oysters.

Chef's privileges, I used to eat them as I cut up the rest of it!

Your dinner sounds top class, roast beef absolutely! Now interestingly I would always have beef left over than chicken. Enjoy ❤️

Coming to yours to eat all the chicken skin

Some years ago I worked in a children's cancer unit. The treatments often left the children feeling sick and not wanting to eat, so we told parents not to worry too much about healthy eating, but to get any food into them that they fancied. One little boy developed a fancy for roast chicken skin, so the parents got all their friends and family to cook chickens and bring them the skin!!

havingoneofthosedays · 08/02/2026 19:17

@Bikergran how absolutely lovely, I would absolutely give up my chicken skin and cook many chickens for that reason

I know !!!
Such a MN cliche.
[Wink]
Op, I often cook chicken thighs for our roasts because of our love of the skin.

IAmTheLogLady · 08/02/2026 19:18

Why didn't my wink work?

Needtorunawayfromitall · 08/02/2026 19:18

Cauliflower cheese scooped into Yorkshire puds…had it today, delicious

ArcticBells · 08/02/2026 19:20

The bread sauce 😋

ToriMounj · 08/02/2026 19:20

The skin, and those little super moist bits underneath, there’s a couple of little bits that pop out if you know what I’m describing

havingoneofthosedays · 08/02/2026 19:29

ArcticBells · 08/02/2026 19:20

The bread sauce 😋

Explain more, we don't have that up here!!
