What's your favourite part of a full roast chicken?

Mines the skin.

Also extra large chicken does 2 adults for 1 dinner, cat gets some and if I can be arsed I will do a chicken soup on the Monday with the dregs.

Love this

The skin, and those little super moist bits underneath, there’s a couple of little bits that pop out if you know what I’m describing

Me too! My mum had a name for them but I can’t remember it

IVe just munched on dd’s discarded chicken skin, like a feral animal 🙈🙈

TomatoSandwiches · 08/02/2026 19:40

Yep, Bread sauce on a roastie with a bit of gravy 😋

I do two small chickens, for four, the meat is more tender and I get extra left over for my lunch on Monday plus 2 carcasses for stock.

The oysters!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 08/02/2026 19:44

The skin and the fat juices, before they solidify! (Crucify me, but the taste is SO good!). I will also throw in some homemade gravy, made with the juices.

Have you looked up bread sauce, ready for your next roast chicken, OP? How far north are you? (Bread sauce is definitely a Thing in Lancashire/Yorkshire, so I was wondering if you were on Shetland, if you've never heard of it before!)

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 08/02/2026 19:44

After the skin, obvs. That’s elite. I don’t even eat the oysters secretly in the kitchen as chefs perks - I’ve cooked it, I’ll eat what I damn like. Always put them both on my plate sod everyone else!

Blergh, not the skin, the dogs get that!
But proper gravy, made with the chicken juice, potato water, wine, and Yorkshire pudding mix? A thing of actual beauty 🥰

You make a gravy from Yorkshire pudding mix?

maddiemookins16mum · 08/02/2026 19:47

The Oysters. I cooked a 1.7kg chicken today, it fed four adults (and I have enough left for a chicken pasta salad for tomorrow’s lunch - which may also last until Tuesday if I bulk it out with extra chopped peppers and sweetcorn).

Those are what PPs are calling the oysters 🙂

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 08/02/2026 19:50

Well I’m 53 and I had to google chicken oysters!!! Never heard them called that before!

Scotland! Defo heard of it from a Welsh friend but never had it, should I be adding this to the weekly roast?

Skin gets eaten by me as soon as it’s out of the oven as it’s clearly the best bit. Then legs and wings are the best meat, eaten with all the roast dinner trimmings inc Yorkshire puddings and any skin I didn’t scoff earlier. Breast is overrated and usually goes in wraps next day with peppers, onions, guacamole, chilli, cheese and rice etc. like a burrito. Anything left goes in a risotto made with stock from carcass or add prawns and chorizo and call it paella. I like value from a chicken. It’s only DH and me.

Just had to go in the recycling to find the chicken packaging mine says 2.072kg, you literally are feeding 4 plus leftovers. Mind blown 🤯

Yes defo carcasses for stock always. I did three roast chickens for a late Xmas lunch when all turkey had gone. Three carcasses in the freezer for stock. Yum.
