Am I the only one who didn't know

I was looking for something to get for our indoor cats when I came across a wheel that they can run in, thinking this is great I was looking for a good one, the prices varied from 40-60 pounds. But then I saw one for about 4k, it looked just the same as the others apart from thé price.
When I mentioned this to someone at work they said yes, people do this to sell sex, or sex trafficking or something just as horrendous! I was shocked and thought but surely the police would be all over it, they said it's organised crime?
What the hell!
Has anyone heard of this and seen anything like it, oh I saw this on Amazon.
And if so, do you have thoughts on whether it's true.

How does a cat wheel help people traffickers ? 🤔🤷

RosyPumpkins · 07/02/2026 04:17

Unexpected. I also don’t understand how this works!

Beekman · 07/02/2026 04:19

Sorry I have no idea what you’re talking about- can you explain how a cat wheel
is connected to human trafficking?

I know buying fake goods often benefits organised crime groups but this is a new one on me.

TappyGilmore · 07/02/2026 04:22

I have never heard of this! Not quite sure how it would work?!

rockingroller · 07/02/2026 04:26

Do you mean that to avoid taking payment directly for pimping, the criminal sells a randomised item at a vastly inflated price?

JayJayj · 07/02/2026 04:28

A quick google will tell you this is false information from 5 years ago. There is no proof what so ever.

Crocsforlife · 07/02/2026 04:28

It's a conspiracy theory been going around for years.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/interactive/2021/wayfair-qanon-sex-trafficking-conspiracy/

LordEmsworth · 07/02/2026 05:37

It's the old Wayfair conspiracy. You buy the item for £4k and it turns up with a trafficked child inside, who ia what you've really bought.

This "someone at work" must be very convincing for you to assume they are right. They are, obviously, not right. I'd be giving them a wide berth in future.

FaceEatingLeopard · 07/02/2026 05:46

Are people really this stupid?

TrafficBlocking · 07/02/2026 05:48

Ha ha ha the item is out of stock so the price is hiked unrealistically so no one buys but it keeps its 'place' in online land until available again....

Wow, I couldn't find anything on line so thought..., yeah we all know what I thought.
What a fool I am!

Thanks to @TrafficBlocking for solving the mystery. It was all very puzzling for a minute there.

ThatLemonBear · 07/02/2026 06:36

Going slightly off topic, if you are looking to buy a cat wheel the Cazami brand is considered to be the best. They are more expensive than the ones you’ll see on Amazon (not 4k though!} but are much better quality and safer for the cats according to the breeder we got our kittens from

I suppose it’s what you searched. I typed buying overinflated goods linked to sex trafficking, and it was the first article.

I believe nothing anymore. It’s too easy to spread false information and news online.

HighStreetOtter · 07/02/2026 06:48

Ha ha, I had an image of someone having sex with a prostitute inside a 4k cat wheel (they can be quite big, not sure they’re that big). I’d get motion sickness for sure 🤣

They seem to be….

BootMaker · 07/02/2026 07:45

This is the second thread about this utter buffoonery in as many days, do people really believe this?

I remember when it was first being talked about and my utter incredulity that anyone would entertain such nonsense, it seems nothing has changed!

OP has already admitted she feels a fool for believing it, so there’s no need to stick the knife in further. People have all sorts of life experiences, backgrounds and education, and there’s plenty of awful hard-to-believe things in life which turn out to be true, so some people may find it hard to know what it and what isn’t.

So you seriously thought that a random person you work with was privy to some special information that the internet didn't know?

Is it MI5 where you work?

InterestedDad37 · 07/02/2026 08:08

I've ordered a couple of items of clothing, delivery due today - hope I don't end up with a couple of extra mouths to feed! I'd have to get some more bread in. 🙂

Dollymylove · 07/02/2026 08:09

Eh?

It wasn't targeted at the OP, as you say, she realised pretty quickly what a load of tripe it is.

More her colleague and the posters on the other similar thread who are quite convinced of the truth of it all and aggressively accusing naysayers of gaslighting and telling them to 'do their research'.

So apologies @Agespot if you thought that was aimed at you!

It’s exactly this
