I was looking for something to get for our indoor cats when I came across a wheel that they can run in, thinking this is great I was looking for a good one, the prices varied from 40-60 pounds. But then I saw one for about 4k, it looked just the same as the others apart from thé price.
When I mentioned this to someone at work they said yes, people do this to sell sex, or sex trafficking or something just as horrendous! I was shocked and thought but surely the police would be all over it, they said it's organised crime?
What the hell!
Has anyone heard of this and seen anything like it, oh I saw this on Amazon.
And if so, do you have thoughts on whether it's true.

Cat wheels exist!?!?

What have we become.

As an aside, though, cat wheels sound horrendous. Wouldn't they just be a vehicle for cats to engage in the kind of obsessive, disturbed behaviour that result from over-restriction and under-stimulation? Like a tiger pacing in a too-small cage?

They use them to have the ability to full out sprint, something that is usually reserved for getting away from dogs, that big, scary, FIV infected tomcat from the house down the road or destroying the house like a Tom and Jerry cartoon sometime around 4am. And to sleep in, going by DD2's last rescue/ex breeding queen Bengal.

MyThreeWords · 07/02/2026 10:49

Thanks, @NeverDropYourMooncup . That does sound positive. I had visions of them going slavishly round like a hamster, Which is ok for hamsters I guess , as they have a lower level of cognition. But it sounds like cats use them just to widen an already broad behaviour set.
The 4am zoomies sound fun. I only have a dog and their zoomies tend to be early eveningGrin

The scariest thing about these baffling conspiracy theories is that some people actually believe they are true. The walk amongst us. They post on Mumsnet.
I occasionally spend an entertaining hour or so on Websleuths, on their conspiracy theories section, just to confirm that I am, indeed, quite sane.

The dark web exists, it doesn't really stand up to much scrutiny that crimanls are infiltrating cat toy websites.

I know, I never said I believed that.

NotThatSerious · 07/02/2026 08:35

Yes this. This is the theory people have

Mmmm. I don't think it's impossible that Amazon and other enormous online sellers would be used to run a type of money laundering. The crims are very creative.
However it is also possible that the cat wheel emporium accidentally missed off the decimal point for the sale price, and they meant to say £40.

Iwantamarshmallowman · 07/02/2026 12:22

I just assumed people did this to prevent people buying the item when they had run out of stock but didn't want to take the listing down.

That's another thought. Could be all kinds of things really.

I am confused.

You assumed correctly.

Ha ha, I had an image of someone having sex with a prostitute inside a 4k cat wheel (they can be quite big, not sure they’re that big). I’d get motion sickness for sure 🤣

That or some kind of new stripper routine. Not lap dancing, not pole dancing, but ... wheel dancing.

CheshireDing · 07/02/2026 04:03

How does a cat wheel help people traffickers ? 🤔🤷

When you unpack your cat wheel maybe half a dozen illegal immigrants fall out and run away?

BassinBas · 07/02/2026 13:08

Stop the wheels!

BillieWiper · 07/02/2026 13:12

I cannot imagine a cat running round on a wheel like a bloody hamster. Sounds preposterous frankly. Cats run around to chase things and catch prey, not so they can remain on the same spot but burn calories. They are too intelligent for that I reckon.

As for the sex trafficking thing. I think it's more likely a typo?!

Beammeupbob · 07/02/2026 13:53

Have you ever heard the expression ' not as green as you are cabbage looking. What's with all the QAnon style threads. Yesterday a Teletubbies house today cat wheels!

whattheysay · 07/02/2026 14:03

TrafficBlocking · 07/02/2026 05:48

Ha ha ha the item is out of stock so the price is hiked unrealistically so no one buys but it keeps its 'place' in online land until available again....

Yes this. People who didn’t understand search engines and seo thought that trafficking was the most plausible explanation for it.

Blueuggboots · 07/02/2026 16:51

@BillieWipercats do run on wheels!! I had one for my cats but it wasn’t really big enough

Haha! I can't believe it! I don't think any one I ever had would. It sounds kinda cute though 😁
