To think we shouldn’t have to contribute to soch if we don’t intend to use it?

For example, I don’t want a state pension - so I should surely be able to opt out of soch based contributions percentage. And just pay a lesser amount to cover anything I do take advantage of.

Are you 5?

That's a bit insulting to 5 year olds 😁

Er no. But I am increasingly frustrated by people picking apart my thread!!!

Your thread was nonsensical from the get go, why wouldn't everyone pick it apart?

Sorry, yes it is. It was the silly 'TAKE THAT' comment to another poster, made her sound like a 5 year old (or a teen).

The whole lack of understanding how society works and collective contributions to cover a range of potential needs, is unusual (or is it).

Because it is a view. It doesn’t have to be correct. It’s my view, not policy guidance.

We know that. This is aibu, you asked and were told. Yes, you're unreasonable. Your premise is inane and your terminology invented.

Ok well if you’d particulaed in the thread when it was trending I’d be interested to hear your views. But too late. Alass, cba

Nah, being on the social means taking benefits.

Not paying your stamp.

Did you never watch The Full Monty?

Shame on you.

whynotwhatknot · 29/01/2026 00:44

I am in my 60s. I have lived in London all my life. I have never ever heard the word "sosh" or the expression "on the sosh" before.

Either you are about eight or you are unaware that Take That was a British boyband.

LoftyPlumLion · 29/01/2026 06:33

Take responsibility, you asked for opinions and people are giving them to you, you just don’t like that the large majority t think you’re a terrible entitled human being.

JG24 · 29/01/2026 08:00

Just read a few of the OPs latest posts and realised they're American...thank god. Let's hope they still live there (apologies to the reasonable Americans)

Not anyone I've ever heard in more than 50 years in London, mostly in a job meeting benefits claimants regularly

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2026 08:11

Oh, but i like Take That, and at long last recognise something the OP is saying.

Er no. But I am increasingly frustrated by people picking apart my thread!!!

Posting on MN, especially in AIBU is not for the easily frustrated. You might want to remember that the next time you’re tempted to post a deliberately goady, garbled thread, using words with which you know no-one will be familiar, and yet expecting posters to understand with no explanation. You come across as entitled, unreasonable and rude, so of course you’re going to be picked apart. Here is my contribution. This is one of the most inane threads I’ve ever seen on MN and if I had the Hubble telescope at my fingertips I still couldn’t locate my interest in it. TAKE THAT !!

Edited to ask, what is ‘alass’ ?

If you’d shared your views during the threads most critical point, I’d be interested.

However you’re late to the party and have joined only to make a rude and unkind comment and jump on the bandwagon.

You do love to invent 'words' @slozenger

What is 'particulaed'? 'Alass' with an extra letter, hoping it might catch on?

'Cba' Very stroppy teenager mid tantrum.

And your point is? ‘I hate tomatoes’ is equally childish, grow up and develop an adult palette eh,

OP, I’m fascinated by you and this thread.

You have posted with obscure language and refused to explain. You have posted obscure concepts and refused to elaborate. You have posted that you believe you don’t need the NHS; that you would self-medicate and, other than TCP, haven’t given any insight as to how. Despite allegedly being of mature years you use childish language and arguments.

I’m not going to engage with your ‘concept’ because, as others have told you time and time again, it wouldn’t work but I’ll keep popping occasionally to see how much more ridiculous the thread gets. Thanks for keeping me and others entertained.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/01/2026 14:44

Can anyone opting out of the NHS wear a lanyard pal so if you get hit by a bus, I know hot to call an ambulance?

As I’ve said previously to others, you’ve missed the boat. It is too late to come just to jump on the bandwagon.
