Best electric throw blankets? Urgent!

Hi all!

I have an important birthday coming up in 2 days and last minute have decided an electric throw might be good as my mum works at her desk and likes to wrap up warm!

my brain can’t comprehend all the options and the reviews are mixed!

which ones would you recommend?

I’ve seen silent night and slumber down online but can’t decide which one I should buy!

I didn't do vast amounts of research so not sure how it compares to others but I for the price point, I'm thrilled with it.

Not sure if it's just me having terrible luck but nearly every single electric blanket or throw I've ever had hasn't lasted more than one season. I had an expensive one from dreams that broke after a week, they sent me a new one, that broke after a week, they sent a third, same thing!!! Eventually got a refund.

Have tried several different ones at various price points, none have lasted long enough to even need washing (which is where I assumed any problem might kick in as although most of them insist they are washable it feels wrong!).

The only one that's still going strong after 3 years is a cheap one I got reduced from the lidl middle aisle!

I know a few people whove had the same issue.

So basically I'd advise either getting one with a good warranty (and keep the receipt!) or just going towards the cheaper end of the market and accepting it might need replacing.

Dreamland intelliheat. I wouldn’t buy anything else.

Agree! I have bought a few and they're great and easy to wash

we have several of the silentnight heated blankets. Bought them in the middle aisle of Lidl for £25

I got a Silentnight one, and now couldn't be without it. Best £35 I've spent in a very long time, love it.

They definitely had some in Lidl today but I didn’t clock how much. I’ve got a habitat one from Argos , I love it.

I've just bought this one, I wfh and I've got it wrapped around me now! I can't vouch for how long it lasts as I only got it yesterday but I've got it on heat setting 5 out of 10 and it's toasty enough for me. It's really soft and fluffy as well.

I've got the Berkshire Luxe heated throw from Costco. Currently £32.99.
4 heat settings, soft & velvety. Drapes really nicely.

Mia and Coco for sure. Bit pricey but the best one I've ever had, big and thick with 9 heat settings. Heats up really well, I usually have it on number 4 and that's more than warm enough!

I bought my last ones from Amazon and went for the larger size: cosihome luxury double throw 150 x 200cm - very warm and on sale for just under £50 now. I’ve bought a dreamland one and it’s just gone wrong after 4 years of use - it’s thinner so not so warm when it’s off.

Dreamland I have the peacock one and a fur one for 18 months. Both used most days in the colder months. Both still lovely

I got mine in Costco just before Christmas but they still had some in last week.

it’s fake fur but really really soft, has a very long cable so you’re not tied to a socket and gets very warm very quickly. Several different heat settings. It’s also nice and warm (& snuggly) without the heat on too.

We’ve had a few of these from Dreamland . The first one lasted a long time but eventually stopped working.

The second one was fine until it started emitting sparks 🔥near the controller. Kids were terrified. ☹️
I told Dreamlsnd, sent pics and they sent me a new blanket.

I offered to send the faulty lead to them as it was dangerous but they weren’t interested.😲
The second blanket didn’t last very long.

I haven’t bought a new one. Instead we have thick velour type fleecey throws with a tog rating and they suffice,

Best throw, expensive but definitely worth it. I’ve had mine for 2 years.

Go to a reputable retailer for an electric throw like Argos or John Lewis. Before we got ours which is a 'Dreamland' one. We were initially going to get a cheaper one from Amazon until we read the reviews, where some had gone up in flames. It's really not worth the risk, especially if using marketplace. Once bought they are cheap to run and lovely and warm. I subsequently bought a Dreamland electric blanket as well as Dreamland throws for family.

I have the Dreamland one and also bought dd the Faux fur version. At Christmas I bought a cheaper Silentnight one and there is a huge difference in quality. Dreamland might cost more but definitely worth paying for.

My sister bought me a Silentnight one. It's lovely and I would recommend it.

Another vote for Dreamland Intelliheat. Currently under mine!

OP, Lidl also have the SilentNight heated hoodies in, if that's of interest. £19.99 and it's heated across the tummy, lower back and shoulders. It's powered by a USB power bank (which you do have to supply yourself). Means you can move around and still keep warm!
