Sounds like this is becoming the standard.

I always thou most companies in the UK standard hours were 35 or 37.5 per week not 40 hours per week. This has bern my experience until now but it seems things are changing and I am being lazy. Adding the commute there is not much family time left during the week.

I guess the UK is going backwards; comparing to Scandinavia countries

OP I don't think you are being lazy at all. In the UK we do work long hours and once you have a young family it really is v.tough - it's why I went part time after mat leave and tbh even after kids have grown up I think I would still prefer not to work full time. I would like to enjoy my life before I get to the end of it!
