Apologies cant see a thread about this.
Staff at Bristol Brunel academy blocked a visit by Damien Egan, their local MP because he is Jewish. Clear case of antisemitism. AIBU to thinking that headteacher and those driving this decision should be sacked and reported to the Teacher Regulation Agency?
(Apologies thread title isnt correct, but i can't edit it)

Sure, but he is entitled to be pro Israel and to express that publicly.

The teacher and others may not like that, but they don’t get to behave as they did. Teachers are NOT allowed to be political activists while working.

No they aren't and shouldn't but you need know the area and the demographics of pupils, their family etc to understand that it would have caused trouble unfortunately and was not because he was Jewish.

Yes, totally not propagandist or hysterical at ALL. Definitely 100% objective, fair and truthful.

No doubt those at the Canary and their foolish acolytes here view themselves as highly righteous however.

The Canary recently merged with another pro-Corbyn, anti-western publication which weirdly enough is called Skwawkbox. Such a weird coincidence that the propaganda poster who shared the link has the same username! I would have thought it was quite an unusual and unique name, but there you go.

He said that people were making biscuits in the shape of Israel with the Palestinian flag on them. So making things basically saying that Israel should not exist and be taken over by Palestine and giving them to children at a school, including Jewish children, and two parentd came to him with concerns. Personally I think that's quite inappropriate at best, no matter what a dodgy website that describes an MP doing his job as an "unhinged grovelling Zionist" might say.

Not that I'm sure what this incident has to do with another MP who also happens to be Jewish. Or why it matters that he's a convert.

The same skwakbox that describes Hamas as a resistance group? Yeah they'd make great bedfellows.

Not sounding great or very legal for that matter.

PurpleThistle7 · 14/01/2026 12:31

Ew I clicked on the link out of biscuit interest and now I feel dirty.

I feel pretty strongly that there’s not a single person who would like their children to be handed a sweet treat that says their country should be obliterated. If you handed a bunch of Ukrainian kids a cookie in the shape of Ukraine with the Russian flag iced onto it would that be okay? Should France have the English flag on it as England tried to take over France multiple times? That is insane and I’d have been first in the queue to complain.

My son is Jewish. His teacher is Muslim and runs a local Palestinian refugee group. She is active on social media about Palestinian issues (I know because another parent shared this with me out of concern, I wasn’t stalking!). Do I care? No. Because in class she treats my son exactly the same as the rest. She invited him to present about Chanukah and asked him about Sukkot and all sorts of lovely chats about his family traditions. It is 100% possible to live and demonstrate peaceful coexistence and to leave any political debate at the door of the school. If she handed him a worksheet that deleted Israel or (wtf) a COOKIE to teach him the same that would be crazy.

It's not because he's Jewish, it's because he's pro-Israel. He's part of Friends Of Israel at Westminster and visited Israel to show support for their government, apparently.

I don't agree at all with banning him, but it's not true to claim it's antisemitism. Being pro Netanyahu is nothing to do with the Jewish community world wide.

My own MP is Jewish and has been going to Israel and Gaza for decades as part of a peace delegation to support both communities.

So what? Why can’t he be pro Israel? Are people banning pro Gaza MPs too, for the atrocities of 7th Oct?

Hypocrites.

It’s perfectly ok to disagree with people’s stances and still invite them. A school in the UK has nothing to do with Middle Eastern politics.

What a crazy coincidence!
As for the biscuit incident, I read the extremely badly written and incoherent Canary article and maybe it's just me but claiming that Israelis/Jews are the colonisers while plastering the entirety of Israel with Pan-Arab colours for "Palestine's indigenous people" is deeply ironic.

And in any case, as we've said, Friends of Israel isn't "Friends of Netanyahu". Their stance seems quite opposed to him, in fact. So it's very odd to make assumptions about what he was "apparently" doing in Israel, where his husband is from, and claiming he is "pro genocide" when he appears to be pro a two state solution.

For the nth time, what was this protest expected to achieve, please? What was the material result the little mob of keffiyeh and pro Pal T-shirt wearing parents expected or wanted it to have regarding Jewish people or any person who support the existence of Israel as a country being allowed to speak at schools about their own jobs? Intimidation? A warning to other Jewish people? A warning to anyone who does not 100% agree with every single one of their views that they're going to be in danger? Banning Jews from public life? What, please?

Sixseventeen · 14/01/2026 12:58

This is why I think there are so many people protesting against events in Gaza and not a peep out of them about events in Iran. It’s rooted in anti-semitism. I think a lot of them couldn’t really care less about Palestinian people. The same sort of people who kicked off about Damian Egan. Theres reports of 12,000 to 20,000 protesters being murdered by the Iranian regime in the last week alone. That’s a genocide? Where is the outrage? I don’t hear calls of Free Iran from the same people who chant Free Palestine. Why?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/01/2026 13:05

... as we've said, Friends of Israel isn't "Friends of Netanyahu"

Most of us know this, @hihelenhi, we might as well try to claim that supporting Palestinians is the same as supporting Hamas, when that would usually be equally untrue - even though a large % of Palestinians do exactly that

As usual though, some tie themselves in knots trying to pretend their hatred has a rational basis, and close their eyes to everything else

Kingscallops · 14/01/2026 13:13

In other but related news, there is increasing pressure on the Police Commissioner of West Mids Police to resign for his role in the Villa match debacle. Good to see push backs being made on this this type of discrimination.

No genocide. Just a country defending themselves from a terrorist group who were being harboured by the Palestinians. I wish people would stop using emotive words which aren't relevant in the Gaza situation. There. Fixed it for you...

Absolutely. Was just reading about it:

Police chief admits misleading MPs after AI used in justification for banning Maccabi Tel Aviv fans.

Senior conservatives are calling for him to be sacked and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will deliver a statement to the Commons later today.

An intelligence report referred to a football game that never happened - Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will make a statement later today.

Just listening to a report on radio 4, apparently the intelligence that led to the ban was based on an incorrect AI report... you couldn't make it up.
Its Ban The Jews by another name. Anyone defending this shit needs to think deeply about their motivations.

Livelovebehappy · 14/01/2026 13:34

Waiting with interest to see what the weekly London protestors make of the Iranian regimes actions in Iran currently. They presumably support the Iran regime as its they who have been supporting Hamas and the Palestinians.......

How about we just stop banning Jews from things in the UK? Unless we want to become known as an antisemitic country, which I certainly don't. It's against British values for one thing.

Hamas are actively working against the Palestinian people. They are a psychotic death cult who don't care how many Palestinian lives are lost while Hamas pursues its goal of obliterating every last Jewish person.

It'll be hard to stop when so many don't even admit that its happening in the first place. See this whole thread.
